THQ's bankruptcy sale details: Auction on January 22nd, Will Allow Piecemeal Purchase

I can see WWE making/buying their own studio :I

I know a wrestler who does the MoCap for the wrestling games. He even did the wrestling moves for Saints Row 3. He was just talking about this today, saying he wouldn't be shocked if WWE just bought a studio and had them do the games themselves without having to worry about another company fucking them over like THQ.

Fingers crossed for Relic and CoH not going to EA or Ubisoft.

I don't think there is any other option, pretty much EA is given imo, no one else invests in RTS games right now beside them and Blizzard who has no need for them.

Ubisoft acquired Massive from Vivendi but they aren't making RTS anymore, they published games from Eugen but not even that anymore.

that's it as far as RTS games goes. There are companies like 1C/Paradox but don't think they are in any shape to be able to buy them.

Valve? I don't think they have any need either, they are doing game development in house these days, they even let Turtle Rock go. they partner with outside studio for stuff like CSGO but that's different than buying an studio located in Vancouver. they have dota2, no need for anything else. same goes for companies like Riot Games.

Sega? they have their own successful series in Total War and I don't think in their current financial situation and down sizing they just did last year, they would be looking for acquisitions like this.

well, the other option is, they can close if no one buys them. :|

It's 100% EA imo, you can consider it done already, unless someone comes in and buy whole of THQ, Relic included, otherwise if it's piecemeal sale there is only one place they can end up.

Sega has done well for itself with Creative Asembly and I think that would be the dream scenario as for who Relic would go to but I also don't think it is likely to happen at all.

I am dying to know who got THQ Montreal.

That would be interesting to see, yeah same here. I think;

WB, Ubisoft, EA, Square Enix (2) all have studios in Montreal already, maybe it's not very attractive to them to buy another one? of course they can merge it but what's the benefit of start up team that are probably only in pre production for a new IP without anything really done yet, I'm not sure if Patrice name means all that much either, unless their pitch or prototype they have is something really special and attractive to the suits deciding this.

I'm not sure if someone like Ubisoft would be interested, I imagine Patrice and co parted ways from Ubisoft not very amicably and they are not really obliged to work there if Ubisoft acquires them, they can easily find a job elsewhere, so what would be the point without the talent at the studio?

I'm really interested where Turtle Rock game ends up, maybe Valve picks that up.

What's the use of owning an IP without talent, many great games series died because they were mismanaged look at Rare or Hudson, I think Nintendo knows that if they aquired an IP like SaintsRaw per say without proper talent to support and handle this IP then there're better off saving that money for something useful.

I think they'd be keen if they got it for 5 bucks and a pickled egg.

Exactly my thought too about THQ Montreal. Personally I think WB might go after them, it fits their profile (They are looking for more risky game to bolster up their line-up) and they are the most stable compared to the other publishers.

They've already said repeatedly all games currently in production will be completed on schedule. No fear!

The South Park game will almost certainly be released, but there's no one who can actually make that guarantee stick right now. Thq no longer controls their own fate.

Exactly. They can promise all they like, but it's no longer up to them what happens with any of their games. It is a shame what happened to them though because I liked some of their games.

cross posting from the steam thread where i asked this stuff but...

what's going to happen to all THQ products for sale on steam on the 22nd? i have most of THQ's catalogue on steam at this point, but there's a few holes (missing some dawn of war items, old red factions, you don't know jack and racing stuff), and i'm a little concerned with how things get divided up, that things may be off the store for some time.

i'm particularly concerned about the dawn of war stuff, because it seems like someone could bid for the warhammer 20k RTS licence, but not necessarily buy relic, and then what happens to these games? do they have to be re-cert by the would be buyer of warhammer 20k? do they go off sale at any point?

i know the general feeling is that COH2, south park, and (possibly) metro will not be delayed due to this, but will any of them be published under the THQ moniker?

what about extra steam keys floating out in the wild from various THQ sales at other outlets? i'd really like to think they wouldn't be instantly invalid, but i just don't know the logistics behind this.

Man, knowing people at multiple THQ studios and doing some contract work for them (and still doing it now) makes me very anxious about the sale. I really hope teams get to stay together. I have friends there and people who gave me a shot and helped me get a foot in the door.

That is possible, but probably not overwhelmingly likely since they're already released titles bringing in income.

Warhammer would be the biggest problem though yes, since I suspect whoever buys THQ won't take the license.

Actually I feel some of these might be delayed to give them a better launch window.

Anyone buying THQ doesn't need the money to survive, so polishing up the games more and releasing them at the best time possible makes more sense.

South Park is the only one I would expect to stand still since it already has a decent window (unless it's actually next to GTA V and Last of Us) and it very likely won't be an ongoing franchise.

Anything already bought should be fine.

I think the best option is having the bidders fail to beat Clearlake, keeping the company intact, and seeing how 2013 plays out. This isn't impossible, either.

So how would this work if, say, EA bought Company of Heroes and Relic? Would EA kill the preorders for CoH2 on Steam? Would they force Origin on Company of Heroes 2?

They would almost certainly need to delay things in order to do that, COmpany of Heros is like 2 to 3 months away from release.

Very interested to see where the WWE license ends up. I'll hope for EA. Only other product I really care about is the South Park RPG and that should still release on schedule in March right?

Same here, EA is probably the one who will go for it. If EA can get syn Sophia/AKI Corporation to make these i would be very happy, not expecting that to happen

FIFA games have been really good and Tiger Woods has also been solid, especially on the Wii. So it is not like they are incapable of making a great game, and i ran out of patience with Yukes about 10 years ago.

how likely is it that valve will aquire volition? not very likely correct? :(
I come back into this thread after like two weeks and I still see mentions of Valve. Never change GAF...

Again, Valve only acquires mod teams, and only for the purpose of turning mods into full-blown games to be run on Source.

personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the, uh, Warhammer 20K license ;)

Nah, they bought a small 2-man studio in Seattle and Turtle Rock was actually a legit company before it was acquired by Valve.

I'm sure it's been discussed but how crazy would it be if rockstar bought saints row? I would play GTA x Saints Row any day.

Wouldn't surprise me if EA acquire Volition. They don't seem to have an open world sandbox game of their own (that's commercially a success at least), a genre which most big companies are aiming for next gen.

It seems Crytek and a number of other companies have objected to the bidding procedures (they're upset about their contracts being transferred), so I'm not sure how that effects the schedule. Anyways, here is a list of every THQ contract if someone wants to dig through it for any surprises:

So basically, correct me if I'm wrong, but all the plan that Jason Rubin talked about in his letter totally busted? The company was forced to sell its assets independently to the best offerers and after that it's dead, right?

I'm hoping that this happens, although I'm not too optimistic. Though creditors would disagree with me, as a consumer I have liked the THQ of the last few years. I know things will have to change if they don't want to continue losing money, but their current slate of titles still looks intriguing and I'd hate to see their studios squashed under the heel of the EAs of the world.

Unless the Clearlake bid isn't exceeded, then yes.

WWE could just become a games publisher and keep Yukes crapping games out every year.

I am sure Vince deosnt know the difference between publishing DVD's and publishing games.

Crawler is the working title for the next Virgil game. There is also a second 4A game that I didn't know about, Deep Six for 360, PS3, PC and Wii U.

I'm surprised it is listed though... the entire Sony platform license section is redacted

They seem to forgot to do that in the first supplemental. I found a reference to a licence for a "Playstation Next Generation Hardware Tool" in there. That has to be the PS4 right?

It's obvious that most of the properties will go to EA but I just hope Relic doesn't get bought buy them.

Regardless R.I.P Warhammers games.

It sucks that gaming is moving towards an EA monopoly for big releases.

Yep, out of pretty much every company out, EA would probably do the best with the WWE license. I can't see any other company putting decent money into it. EA would make it have a very polished presentation, much better graphics, better online play, and probably better commentary and voice acting.

Oh and the big thing, most likely much more fun gameplay. The biggest thing I hate about the Yukes games are they just aren't fun to play. Allstars was a much more fun game to play. What will happen to all the online servers for games tomorrow? Will they be shut down and unable to be accessed after tomorrow?
