If Retro's Wii U project actually gets shown here, I swear I will eat Pachter's hat. There's no way they'd squander something that would kill E3 in a Nintendo Direct.

That poor chair has herpes now.

Still bs I have to wake up at 6 AM to watch this :(

First post on Gaf!

Looks like I got in just in time, HYPE BABY!

Although to be fair, just a couple of new games would do for me, I'm not greedy.

I think they will have at least one major project teased in this, but I don't think it's Retro's game. Retro is their west sturdo and this is a global ND. If they want to tease something to get interest I imagine it would be a game with global appeal. Not that Retro's game won't have global appeal, but the talk has been that their project is aimed at the western audience.

Yoshi's Land honestly feels likely to me.

yea, i don't believe it either. monolith's project seems like it'd be the clear focus on something like this, if they released more than that then they're wasting potential press

E3 is already dead for Nintendo if MS and Sony show their new consoles there.

Well, to be fair Iwata only said he would TALK about games Nintendo is developing.

It will probably be like;

"Yes, we are developing a new Zelda, a new Mario, Sakurai started working on Smash 4 just yesterday! so expect it to come out around 2020, and there is also a new Mario Kart, unfortunately we can't show you any of this yet, Thank you!"

schuelma

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Yeah everything seems to be on the table after that latest tweet. I think Monolith's game is likely but that a bigger more mainstream tease is very possible.

You're probably right. Basically it sounds like they're trying to allay the fears of a drought and at the same time not actually tell us/show us the titles. So we might get a big list of the types of games they are doing and as much info as possible around them without giving them away. We might get a few of the "lesser" games' footage shown but the big guns will be kept under wraps until E3.

That is, unless Retro's game is ready to ship soon :)

Yeah, remember that spectacular PS3 introduction E3 that totally killed the Wii?

The Wii wasn't out yet (which is what I think he was getting at). I think a better way to say it is that the Wii and PS3 in 2006 didn't kill the 360 which came out in 2005.

Saving too much for E3 might be dangerous though. The other companies will have new consoles to show there. It is going to be hard to compete with the hype that brand new consoles bring to the table.

Right now the hype for Wii U is already waning and its only been out for a short time. That has to be a concern for Nintendo

We'll see, but I wouldn't be surprised if they show things at this Nintendo Direct that would normally be better suited for an E3 reveal.

And it could just be a tease.. A short trailer with snippets of video footage from upcoming games.. Just enough to whet appetites without revealing too much.

I feel we should be getting updates on the web eShop, that's been in development for quite some time. Also they should update us on what their plans are for NFC.

... I am so... happy... finally, some Wii U news... I'll be at work, sitting at my desk doing NOTHING when this happens, so perfect timing. Will tune in. Will I soon be getting something interesting to play on my Wii U? X__X (other than LEGO City Undercover in March?)

That would be perfectly fine. People wanted that at E3. Just mentioning big future titles will get you hype.

I really hope they announce one of the following:

- Wii Mode playable on the GamePad
- Virtual Console games also playable on the GamePad
- GameCube Virtual Console

Nintendo shows stuff tomorrow = "they should have waited for E3"
Nintendo saves stuff for E3 = "they are wasting their year head start"

They can do both

IntelliHeath

As in "Heathcliff"
Iwata: "This time, the plan is a bit different from a regular Direct, in that I'll be talking about what kind of Wii U titles and services Nintendo is developing."

Alright? How can I get hyped from this? I don't really see it.

Nope no hype still

Exactly, I am not going to board on hype train that might crash into city.

For people who hoped for Smash, it's not going to happens. Sakurai haven't retweet or tweet about Nintendo Direct yet. Last time he retweeted Nintendo Direct, it was the direct that announced Namco-Bandai working on SSB4.

Yep, I'm a fan of splitting it up. Save a huge couple games for E3, but tease some future stuff now.

Unrealistic expectations: F-Zero UX announcement

Realistic expectations: Luigi's Mansion 2 multiplayer reveal and Miiverse on 3DS.
They did say Miiverse was supposed to be released for the 3DS at the beginning of this year.

He also said it'll be Wii U announcements.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I think that we care about E3 far more than Nintendo does. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually stop turning up for it.

Look at Pokemon X+Y, for example. That would have been an E3 Megaton. The game isn't coming until the end of the year.

They usually make it clear what platform they're focused on before each Direct. This is supoosed to focus on Wii U.
