New games means games we don't officially know about. Could be Yoshi, Wii Sports U or something equally meh.
If Yoshi is a spiritual successor to either Yoshi's Island or Mario Galaxy, it could be the greatest thing ever.

Wii Sports U would be alright but NintendoLand more than serves its purpose already.

I want a cel-shaded Mario period. It makes no sense why Zelda is continually being messed around with artstyle-wise, but the main Mario series - which is more conducive to style changes anyway - stays stagnant.

Yeah, I really don't understand why Nintendo hasn't played around with Mario's artstyle more. Yoshi's Island still receives praise for itself artstyle even today, and that's by far the most unique Mario game from a visual point of view.

I'm not going to be upset if they don't change the artstyle, and I don't think anyone else will be either. It's not like they're looking at a NSMB situation where that series has been criticized for its artstyle. The 3D Mario games look great. But I don't think that people would be upset with an artstyle change like they initially were with Wind Waker, so it certainly wouldn't hurt to try something different.

I miss the gamecubes kidney bean shaped X & Y buttons.

Here too. Best button layout ever.

This WiiU Gamecube Wavebird mockup just lacks a left trigger and "Plus" and "Minus" buttons + a proper right stick.
And I find the Wavebird design to be rather ugly because of it's bulkiness.

ND´s are excellent, no matter what they present. I hope there is calm enough at work this afternoon so i can take a break and watch it.

Anything outside the games we already know about will be like a second christmas!

The only reason I can think of for why they don't change the style is just to keep the brand as safe and recognizable as possible. There's a reason why they've stuck with it (and the CG renders that accompany it) since the mid-90s. They might be afraid that switching to cel-shading would alienate the mass audience and kill the golden goose by confusing the branding.

I hope Monolith Soft aren't making an Earthbound game...as being in Europe, I've never played one and more importantly...how do I know they'll release it here!

I never played them before but I do want them a lot because it is praised a lot.

I would be happy for those Mother/Earthbound fans to be happy if it is coming out of Japan.

I live in the UK and I owned Earthbound and currently own Mother 3 and played through it with the English patch.

Played them both, love them. I love Xenoblade. If Monolith are working with itoi on MOTHER 4 then...ohmygodhsbsbsnjd

You can tell Nintendo fans are starved for games to play on the Wii U.

It’s similar to someone being sexually frustrated by not having sex....

Well you're not likely to be sexually frustrated by having lots of sex. Unless it's terrible sex.

Which I guess that's what it was like on the Wii. Lots of terrible sex shovelware to wade through.

this is a pretty desperate shot, even for a vita fan

I don't quite understand why so many anticipate a Monolith-developed Earthbound game.

I love both Earthbound and Monolithsoft with a passion, but I just can't imagine the two being a good fit at all. Monlith's strenghts and the strenghts of Earthbound are pretty much contrary to each other, I just can't see them advancing the game/series in any meaningful way that's still doing the original's style justice.

I rather hope that Itoi's Earthbound project and Monolith's new game are unrelated with each other...

I hope they announce a Gundam game that will actually come out in America. Some good too, like a Wii U port of Extreme Vs Full Boost

As much as I would totally love that to happen as the biggest EXVS fan here, especially since it would give the WiiU in JP some pulling power for a bit and give the game more exposure in the west, I don't think it's gonna happen. ;__;

Maybe we're just excited for you know, Nintendo games? 3DS has a huge library compared to it's nearest rival *ahem* and we'd still be excited for more announcements because you know, games.

Here are my completely realistic and down to earth expectations for this Direct:

- Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Retro's game and EAD Tokyo game are all shown off and given a sizable amount of spotlight
- Platinum is making a Star Fox reboot, Good Feel a Yoshi's Island sequel
- The Mother trilogy is getting a special 3DS remake that'll have a simultaneous worldwide release
- Nintendo has re-brought Rare and all their old IP's
- The Wii U has a super secret processor nobody but my uncle knew about which when accessed by developers will make games look super duper good
- I will not fall asleep during this thing

Don't act like what I'm saying isn’t true.

And I didn't mean to offend anyone too.

i mean, you're right - it's a slow year 1 so far. after ps3, if i show up early, i come prepared with a backlog!
but yes, it's a fair point, but i don't think i've ever owned a console/handheld where 2 months later i wasn't chomping at the bit to hear more game announcements. didn't make it seem any more worthwhile a comment than the tired LOL VITADOOMED potshots though, 's my point.

Yeah, I can see that. But did Wind Waker sell that much differently than the other Zelda's even with all the backlash and the GC's relatively small userbase? At the end of the day it's still Mario, and that name alone should grab people.

But like I said, i'm not going to be upset if they don't change the art. I'm actually kind of curious what they could do with the current style and HD hardware. Galaxy on an emulator holds up really well against actual HD platformers from this gen. So I can't wait to see what the Wii U's 3D Mario looks like.

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
Super Smash Bros. 4 is a collaboration between HAL Laboratory and Sora Ltd. and Namco Bandai, among other developers.

That is smashingly smashy smash news! When was it confirmed that HAL is also working on Smash? Also, do we have any idea how big Sora Ltd. is?

Such a random, simple smiley. Nevertheless, date for W101 is pretty likely IMO.
And if Bayonetta 2 development started pretty quickly after the firts one, it is not unlikely to see a new trailer with actual gameplay. I will not bet on it, throught.

I feel like there is a slight chance we will see a console sequel to Wind Waker someday. sea exploration makes a lot of sense for the Zelda series, and WW had some untapped potential.

it's probably under a 10% chance, but that's better than you can say for TP, MM and the other 3D Zeldas.

The more I think about it the more I think we will get dates for Pikmin 3, W101, etc.

Plus maybe an explanation of the new Virtual Console service, and Miiverse on the 3DS.

But that will probably be it. Nintendo doesn't really need to go into panic mode just yet.

Three hours to go. Hype levels rising. Thank you Nintendo for brightening up my day. That is if you deliver the bombs I am hoping for and expecting. To be honest just one big game announcement and I'd be happy. Anything Nintendo can do to reignite interest in the Wii U.
