Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance demo is up on Xbox Live and PSN US. PSN EU whenever.

Well they are spread out in that area. You cant effectively battle anything while they are firing rockets from off screen. The camera never zooms out, if you run toward the rocket guys the camera sticks to Raiden then usually out of nowhere a gekko will land on your head.

I understand the correct way to do that section, I just find it kind of crappy that you cant effectively take go all out action to take them out.

I've never had a problem with stealthing the one on the right, running across the bridge, running past the gekko that just walked over it to slide zandatsu one guard, and then slide zandatsuing the one behind him before turning around to beat up the gekkos. I agree that the game wanting me to go into blade mode to stop missiles is a bit of a chore, because you basically have to wait for them to do it, but as far as I know just getting close enough to the rocket grunts will make them put away the rocket launcher to pull out a machete. I think you have to take out the grunts first because they're so squishy, and the gekko AI isn't very aggressive unless you're right next to them.

You could always just do this for an easy no-damage, but yeah it's not really playing the game I suppose.

I ninja ran over to them while blade moding the rockets and then Ninja slid or Ninja dive kicked when they were reloading.

It's doable. You just have to make sure your not spending alot of time performing a combo strings on the guards if the gekkos are chasing after you. The slide allows you to attack while moving and take out the guards all at the same time

EDIT: Anyone try parrying a rocket?

I think there might be segments that really require you to use stealth. It's more than possible to take out 2 guys stealthily in that segment, and then be seen while killing the third guy. Then you just fight two gekkos.

You can stealth that whole part: get the lone guy on the right first > cross the bridge following the gekko > get 2nd guy when 3rd guy isn't looking > get 3rd guy > get the gekkos.

The camera is a pain and is why I prefer the God of War camera system, where I hardly feel that I've been hit because I couldn't see an attack coming.

I'm sorry to bring this sort of discussionover here but what's the verdict on console parity? Which version runs the best? (Does one console have any advantage compared to the other?)
I still don't know on which console I should get this.
Thanks in advance.

They did testing on the demo, everything seems to be identical with the exception of cutscenes looking a smidge better on ps3 because of blu-ray.

I would love to try it but Xbox Live is down for ATT Uverse customers, which I am one. Meanwhile my PS3 is online just fine. Free service works great, paid service piece of crap.

Okay, let me see if I get this right about Zandatsu.

To do it, you have to use Blade Mode and make a cut that goes through one of the little targets on the enemy? That will give you a button prompt that you use to do it. Press it for stylish finisher with a full heal included. But what's this about a sliding Zandatsu? Do you get the prompt just by tackling an enemy, or do you use Blade Mode while sliding to cut them as you pass?

How do you get the opening to do the Blade Mode attacks, though? I end up slashing air as the guy I was attacking wisely chose to not be there anymore. Which is a little embarrassing when the guy turns out to be a Gekko.

Just do the slide command and press L1 or LB whenever. If the game goes into slow motion (actual slow motion, not frame drops) after stuff like special attacks or a grunt spewing yellow sparks or a stealth kill, it's the game telling you that you should use blade mode here.

You can't blade mode against the gekkos til they turn blue, so the easiest way to kill them is to hit them til you get the stun prompt, and do the triangle+circle attack and just hold L1 during the whole animation. You'll exit the throw animation with blade mode already activated.

People are assuming Divekick will be avaliable in the initial set of moves....I'm not that sure.

I don't think so

Same with the Bayo demo giving you Shuraba and the Shotguns to play with despite not being able to unlock either by that point in the game your first time through

They're giving you some bonus shit to make the test play more fun

EDIT: Anyone try parrying a rocket?

Pretty sure you can't, as there's no orange glow

Same with nades and the Gekko overhead stomp

Which I think are the only unblockable moves in the demo

You should try hitting them with the dodge though and see if that cuts them. It works on grenades

no you can parry the stomp. I've done it (by luck) in the ZOE demo

That abusive way to get an S rank video shows some of my issues with this demo. That guy simply spammed one move over and over and got S ranks. Other action games would not even let you get close to getting away with that.

During my Dog Session(tm) last night, I tried to fight the boss using only the dodge move and not parrying. Semi successful but some things are just unavoidable at a short distance.

Also the toward;toward;triangle move is great to blade mode cancel out of. Reduces the recovery by quite a lot.

Anyway I'm hoping hard mode reduces the parry / block window by a bit. I think it should be more punishing. Sometimes I try the toward toward square launcher and if the enemy is attacking it will just block instead.

For the past two days I've been getting "the service is undergoing maintenance" messages on PSN. I really want to try the demo! WTF Sony?

are you talking about the lack of challenge in a demo?

I imagine it wouldn't be the case on higher difficulties. There's barely any challenge in this demo once you are aware of the mechanics, it's probably even easier than the DmC demo. The Japanese video showing application of dodge slashes and unorthodox blade mode usage shows that there's some depth to the system, but there's no real way to apply it in the demo unless you're forcing yourself to because of how easy it is.

This guy can do it, but I'm still having some trouble doing dodge slashes consistently against enemies. Sliding underneath the kunais he throws is alright because the animation is so distinct from the rest.

Actually, like Bayonetta's Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa, Parry cancels practically any animation, but only at the last second. I've Stingered into Blade Wolf while he was readying an attack and managed to parry before Raiden's recovery animation could finish.

Yeah I mean, you can probably cancel heavy attacks into parry with the same timing that you would cancel a heavy attack into a light attack, which you can't typically do until toward the end of the animation. If you know an enemy attack is coming, but it's not time to parry yet, you could just go into light attacks and then parry when ready is what I was saying I guess.

Are you sure you're doing it right? You point the left stick at the enemy and press Square simultaneously, but it only works while the enemy is attacking. Try practising against a single grunt and you'll get it pretty quickly. Watch him until he attacks, and then as he starts his animation point the analogue stick at him and press Square. You can actually hold that block stance for the duration of his attack; the timing window is extremely generous. It's even easier against Gekkos because their attacks have such long windups and their legs glow orange. The perfect parry is the tricky part, because you have to parry just before the attack hits you and if you miss the timing you'll eat it.

Thanks I will try that. I am still confused about the dodge. Is dodge performed the same time as parry? As soon as you see the orange glow? Or is dodging it's own timing?

Hm interesting. That slide isn't part of the dodge moves though, right? He is just taping R1 + triangle to do an instant slide or something?

And those wide sweeping tail whips by the dog are what I was having trouble dodging, but he seems to be doing it fine.

Also what is the player doing at like 1:22? I can't tell.

I find the parry window good enough, since only perfect parrying is really good, just parrying stuns you and leaves you in the open, specially bad if you fight more than one enemy at the same time.

Also just parrying the boss is not that effective, since allows him to keep attacking you and not giving you much room to get closer.

Trying to perfect parry has a very nice feel of high reward/high risk thing on it.

I don't think Platinum Games has ever released a game that could be considered as too easy.

A low difficulty would really be the least of my worries.

the forward dodge slash, isn't it? It's why I don't really bother dodge slashing against the tail swipes because it's just an orgy of particle effects and I can't tell what's going on half the time.

Mostly correct, but it's worth noting that you can't typically grab their spines/Zandatsu/whatever unless they're glowing blue. You usually have to injure them enough, then they glow and you know you can Zandatsu. Otherwise you'll just slice away and they won't actually get cut up into pieces.

For sliding, yes, you just run at an enemy, slide, and hit blade mode. You cut him up as he's flying overhead and can Zandatsu him every time. I'm assuming this will change in higher difficulties because it's pretty OP...

As for choosing when to use blade mode, you should usually do it mid-combo when they're glowing blue and it'll typically work out for you every time.

Watch for the orange flashes from enemies; that means an attack is coming. When that happens press the direction towards the enemy + light attack. If you time it right, you'll parry the incoming attack. If you're too early, it'll function as a block. It's super forgiving and really simple.

So you dont have to click in the left stick? Is that what I've been doing wrong?

Blah wish I was home to try some stuff out!

I didn't think there was a way to use the dodge move and move forward. It seemd you could only go to the sides or back slightly but not move up.

Maybe I'm just derpy and horrible, but was there a dodge mechanic? Like, any way to dash out of the way of an attack other than Ninja Run?

I only played the demo once, though. Game seems awesome but the whole "no money" thing will probably get in the way of me buying it.

I'm pretty sure the jumping slash is a forward dodge slash. I assumed it was missed inputs at first as well, but it's a distinct action and it activates when you hit the stick before the buttons for the dodge so often because the dodge direction is based on where Raiden is facing, so if you give him time to turn he'll treat the direction you pressed as "forwards" and do the jump slash. I didn't realize it had invul frames til you pointed it out in the video, though, even though I suppose it's pretty obvious.
The most important thing about that video was the confirmation that some small non-boss enemies have Blade Mode resistance as well.

Judging by the Jack the Ripper trailer these dudes don't pose much of a challenge either.

You know, this game really reminds me of Shinobi with all the slow-mo chopping and fighting helicopters. Using the dive kick on airborne opponents really feels like the chasing birds with the teleport in shinobi.

All we need now is a wall run and levels with no floors.

Its not that it is easy, it is that it could be abused. But yeah I am sure at higher difficulties it can be worked out. Dont know why hard mode doesnt unlock, that is dumb.

If you're good at parrying, at least. That might make it the toughest enemy in the game for some of the people in this thread. :p

Awesome demo. Pure erection. Must get.

Had 2 glitches - hard freeze during zantatsu and lack of button display to catch the spine etc. Restart checkpoint to fix the second.
