Do these sites put some sort of spyware on your iOS device?

No, you do have to allow it to modify your device (to place a tracking thing or something for their site) - but these sites have tens of thousands of users and I've never heard about any problems. If it was spyware, it'd be known I'm sure.

As much as I love Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes on XBLA , the iPhone version has so many issues. Probably fine on iPad though.

For one, this is the most useless menu in the history of menus:

BBlhxcdCEAAsqGc.jpg:large

For the two people who have tried to stat an online async game with them, it crashes when it tries to load the game.

Everything is tiny. Removing units is almost impossible since you can't see them behind your finger.

The text is super small. You can barely read it. I dare not think what it looks like on a 3GS.

Quickly mocked up, but I'd prefer a slightly zoomed in style to allow movement easier.

This is the current game:

But if it were either:

I'd enjoy it so much more.

Licorice-flavoured booze?
I recently picked a mini, only had it a few days but I absolutely love it!

Any how, being a first time ios user I'm on the look out for some good 'cheap' games, preferably free, didn't there used to be an ios mega-thread a while back? I couldn't find it, I wouldn't mind skimming through it to see what I've missed out on.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Yes, thank you based valdeita loureiro! I actually tried to contact the other guy who did it last time to just ask him to do this same thing. Rename it, bundle it with a game to fool them, put it back up, and who cares, lots of people will get it before it's taken down, as long as there are no consequences for him. But his site's contact form thing seemed to be broken.

Don't need to wait for jailbreaks now. Gonna put it on my brother in law's iPad2 and the iCade I bought.

Edit: I tested some games to see the iPad 2 performance, I thought they'd be demanding but all were smooth!

Having never used iMAME before I'm genuinely impressed with the interface, performance, options, the whole package.

It's less fiddly than on PC, even, in my opinion at least. If iCade support is as good as the rest it's going to be sweeeeeeeet.

Btw this probably deserves a thread so more of GAF gets it before it's pulled.

Make it a Gridlee |OT| of MAME on your iOS or something :p

Dump the Gridlee description at first then the important things about it being iMAME with iCade support :p

I have this in the OP, same method applies as the Roms are probably in the Documents folder of the app, or easy enough to find.

Q - How do I back up my game saves for games that do not support iCloud save games?
A - Use a file manager program such as i-FunBox (PC/Mac versions available) - It's free and requires no jailbreak.
i-FunBox has a ton of different features, but for the purpose of backing up save games you would simply want to do the following:

  • Click the iFunBox Classic tab
  • Connect your iOS device, either via WiFi or USB, it should then appear in the Connected Devices list on the left side of the UI.
  • Under User Applications, navigate to the game you want to back up save games for.
  • Select the Documents folder and copy it to your PC/Mac - this will copy the folder and all the contents. This contains your save files and settings for the game (a bunch of .lua files).
To restore a backed up save game simply do the reverse.
  • Under User Applications, navigate to the game you want to restore save games for.
  • Select the Documents folder and choose to copy from PC/Mac
  • Navigate to where you saved the backed up Documents folder on your PC/Mac, open it and select all the files within it and open them. This will copy the folder and all the contents back onto your iOS device.
  • Restart/fully close the game itself and your saves should be back!

Ensure that the file structure of the game is GameName > Documents > .lua files after you're done (no Documents folder within the Documents folder!), otherwise the game will not recognize your restored saves!

I gave Ghostbusters a try for about 40 minutes, it's what you'd normally find in a game with basic gameplay and pay + wait incentives. Combat feels a little clumsy, characters get stacked on top of each other too often and you drag a character to move and drag to attack instead of tapping. It was an interesting idea at least, like a lot of effort was put into a bad design.

Exactly same impression. I do like the fact that they have made at least a vague effort to make an active combat system rather then just 'wait 40 minutes while your Ghostbusters clear the stage.' But the outcome is certainly very janky and difficult to manage. The only saving grace was that it was so easy that I didn't need to really actively control my guys.

I know this probably isn't the best thread to ask, but... does anyone here recommend a website where I can buy US iTunes Gift Cards (with digital delivery) with a foreign international credit card (in my case, Brazil)? There's some great content I want to purchase which is only available on the US store...

edit: Can I trust this website? PC Game Supply

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
glad that Dash is back.. especially if that's a sign that the Weekly iOS Challenges may comeback too x)

One step at the time, I'm not promising any timeframe at all at this time but that's the idea ;)
Also thanks for the offer via pm!

Welcome back dash, nice to see you around again. I haven't been posting much at all, but I'm on this thread all the time....it's like I know the regular guys here so well...but nobody knows me lol

Really looking forward to challenges again.

And I should really find more time to post impressions of some games I have been playing, the iOS Comunity has been one of my favorites on gaf for the longest time, there's a great group of guys here.

I have actually been sucked into 10000000 lately (ok its become an obsession) I know this has probably been said alot about ios games before, but this game has me hooked, the ultimate "just one more run" type game and 3 hours later your still left grinding it out. Who here has beaten the game? I'm at aprox 1.8 million now and 10 million seems worlds away, but I'm loving every second of this.

I do know you dante, you're also on my PSN friends list :)
10000000 is the Canabalt dude's new game, right? I hear is pretty cool

Hey guys, there's a fully functional MAME emulator up on the AppStore. Get it before Apple takes it down!

Apparently this one uses MAME 0.139u1 so it uses a newer romset with more games (Battle Garegga!) supported than that version of iMame for all that hit the appstore last year which used MAME 0.137b iirc?
Curious if it has iCade support and if it shows a proper MAME UI if you load up a different games from the romlist.
Can't download over cellular network now, app's > 50MB

Yup it's weird. Deleted it. Some games just don't work as freemiums.

Why the fuck aren't new apps utilizing iCloud? Most recently, Heroes and Castles needs to have that shit. I'm tired of non-universal apps (fuck you TWEWY) and apps that think people want to be restricted to one device only. Thank you LORD for Clash of Heroes having it, or I might lose my mind.

Devs have gone on record stating it's incredibly cumbersome and involving to implement it, so many of them just don't bother. Don't blame the developers.

I could swear Heroes and Castles supports iCloud...

I've just seen the Blitz Brigade trailer and yes Gameloft seem to be taking the copying a bit far with this one.

Characters "inspired" by Team Fortress 2.

But...how is Heroes of Order & Chaos?? Is it a competent League of Legends clone? Or DOTA 2 clone?

The major reason I know of is the tiny file size limit that Apple imposes on cloud saves, which can make iCloud support out of the question for some games.

So after playing Clash of Heroes for a while, I would say it needs some work:

A lot of icons and assets are very low resolutions, like the loading screens showing the main characters and icons above characters heads.

The controls are pretty much the worst. Selecting a unit to delete sometimes is very unresponsive and needs several tries until I get the circle to fill up completely. Moving around the map is often extremely awkward as the characters has tendencies to move in completely opposite directions unless I am very, very specific with my tapping. Moving off the edge of the map is a pain as it requires you to tap absolutely right next to the spot they are standing, too far off and they just move in a opposite direction.

Also once in a while when saving my game, it has a tendency to add a couple of hours to my gametime, I am currently up at 327 hours total playtime while still being at just the first campaign.

I am really happy with having a portable version of Clash of Heroes, but this needs some fixing.

Hey Halfbrick guys, any plans on an update to Monster Dash? Just curious.

On another note, I saw where Table Top Racing got approved and is coming this Thursday. It's by some of the guys involved with the Wipeout games on the PS1.

This. Me and Pray are iOS GAF's two BG converts, we both played it start to end. It's incredible, and if you've not played before I 100% endorse it. As long as you like REALLY hard games :p

The best part is BG is actually a relatively poor game compared to its sequel and other similar titles. Good times ahead.
