Retro Studios moved to a new larger office

I can't wait to see what Retro is up to. I hope it is an original IP, and I really hope that it is not Mario Kart U or Wind Waker HD...

Having finished the entire Prime Trilogy not too long ago, I can safely say all three are absolutely brilliant, and if any of you says one of them is anything short of fantastic, I will hunt you down and slap you with a dead trout! /fanboyrage

Also I hope Retro is working on a new IP because they have earned it.

I also hope for a new IP but I wish they don't aim for your usual Western Cliché dude bro FPS or a weak TombRaider/Uncharted clone, Retro working on DKR was really a nice change especially that they were really creative, seeing a high profile Western Studios working on a 2D platformer turned out to be great instead of treating the genre as "Eww Indie/Kiddie-Nintendo Germs"

I honestly felt a little nauseous when I read Retro Studios hired some staff from Junction Point.

Why? Because they worked on a game you didn't like? It's not like every new hire brings exactly the worst things about the games they previously worked on with them and injects them directly into their next game which then forever ruins for favorite series.

If an architect designs a shitty building that collapses are you gonna blame the people who mixed the concrete and put the bricks together?

Nintendo are probably the tightest company out there regarding leaks. Even Kamiya is scared.

You should ask him, I am sure he will be receptive to your statement.

Why, biatch? Because they hit dat shizzle on a game you didn't like, biatch? It aint nuthin but not like every last muthafuckin freshly smoked up hire brangs exactly tha worst thangs bout tha game they previously hit dat shizzle on wit em n' injects em directly tha fuck into they next game which then forever ruins fo' straight-up series.

Gizoogle is a lot of fun XD

So I'm Linkedin snooping now that I have a barebones account (lots of stuff's still blocked unless you get a paid account), so I uncovered one person who was hired in 2012 who was a Senior Animator at BioWare on Star Wars: The Old Republic, he was there for 4 years.

For protection, I'll keep the name a secret, now he's a Level 3 Animator at Retro.

Found that two artists from Vigil joined in the summer. One who was the Concept Artist at Vigil is now Contract Concept Artist at Retro, and a Associate Character Artist at Vigil is now Contract Character Artist at Retro. The character artist worked on Darksiders 2 and the Warhammer 40K MMO.

This is in addition to the 2011 hire of a Senior Character Artist from Vigil is still the Senior Character Artist at Retro. This one also worked on Darksiders 2.

More as I find them.

Boom! Another 2012 Vigil hire.

Was Senior Character Artist at Vigil for three years, now Level 3 Character Artist at Retro.

Worked on a number of Vigil games, including creating characters and props for both Darksiders! :O

So 4 so far; 2 proper, and 2 contract. All artists!

You mean all the stuff that I found, yes. The whole reason this was bumped.

GAF -> Internet -> GAF strikes again.

We already know about these people (even more), you don't say anything new.

Perhaps they is hittin dat shizzle on multiple projects, biatch? It seems like they've hired a wack lot of gangstas n' hit dat shizzle fo' too long fo' it ta be a single project.

Based off all of the new hires within the past year, what's everyone's prediction on what Retro's working on?

With Retro's background and the background of most of the people they hired, I'm leaning toward a TPA or a FPA.

My heart says Star Fox and I am not happy about it.

My heart wants a vast new adventure IP.

My head says it's going to be Metroid.

I wouldn't mind a Star Fox game...just not by Retro! I somehow doubt they're working on Star Fox only because I don't believe the game would need more than two years of development time. That is unless they're aiming for an all out adventure game similar to Dinosaur Planet.

I'm leaning towards new IP at the moment. I don't think Nintendo's going to give us a new Metroid game for a long time. The last thing I want Retro is an FPS so I hope they avoid that entirely.

I'd like to see Retro do a new take on Metroid...something with the quality of Metroid Prime, but in a different direction. Nintendo has shown that they aren't afraid to experiment with the franchise. Of course, I'm in the minority with that opinion.

Metroid. I won't accept another answer!
Yes I will, I'm a sucker for anything Retro

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Nintendo is in desperate need for a new, western, IP.

It's gotta be a new IP. Anything else would be such a missed opportunity. Nintendo needs a Western identity in the console space.

I have thought about that and could see it happen.

Possibly another Prime but only in name, something that isn't predictable and turns the series on its head.

I mean, sure they could fart out another quality Prime game but after 3, I would think a developer as talented as they are would want something fresh.

I don't see them going the "new coat of paint" route.

You can make a website look clean and simply without emulating the 90s.

This. Those sites are hilariously bad.

Thank you for killing my browser.... and my eyes.

I'm dying here!

I just did this with my company's web site. Holy hell!

I've mentioned this before and I'm pretty sure I'm in a minority, but I would love a game similar to Fallout or Skyrim but less buggy and more colors.

I just hope Retro Studios hired some of the staff that may not have been incompetent cause based on what I played in Epic Mickey, there wasn't much to like about it or be impressed by. Epic Mickey was a mediocre game and somehow, the sequel is apparently worse.

Agreed.

Either new IP or DKCR2. It won't be Metroid. Cause Nintendo likes money.

Hence them picking up Platinum for at least two games???

I don't think they are banking on Retro's project filling their pocketbooks as only Donkey Kong Country Returns did very well of their games.

And a new IP???

Hardly a guaranteed moneymaker.

Retro will hire competent people, Nintendo keeps a tight leash on them but the benefit of that is that they are managed well. I wouldn't be too harsh in judging anyone involved in building a mediocre game. Remember Retro themselves were considered to be going nowhere when Nintendo bought them. Same with Monolithsoft who were mocked quite a bit.

I like the fact Iwata said he left it up to RETRO to make a visually impressive game for the Wii U, and he smiled and laughed... he knows. He KNOWS.

When did he say this? I want to believe! (Not that I doubt Retro, Iwata (maybe), or yourself) :p
