Xbox.com website glitch - "The New Xbox"

why stop there?

:p

That's not actually very funny.

Wouldn't people get confused with the old Xbox if they just call the new one Xbox? People who don't know much about them will get confused.

"The new xbox" Is definitely the right naming move strategy by Microsoft, they will bank hard with this.

It's easy to see when you step back and analyze it.

Now what do they do with the brand after this? I have no idea.

Could just be a placeholder name, because they were aware that somebody could pick this one up when they were testing the new design.

So instead of writing the actual name for the next Xbox they were just writing "The New Xbox". But we'll see...

No web developer, anywhere, tests 'new designs' on a live environment. Anyway, the nav and section change implied by the screen would likely be CMS driven with little to test.

Most likely when Xbox Next does come around the entire site will get a lick of paint to reflect the new / refined branding rather than a low key addition.

Making this even more suspect...

I think naming it just Xbox is the right idea.

We're in a period of minimalism where naming consoles and gadgets needs to be as simple as possible, Apple made it standard, i think there's less confusion. This way of branding is just more streamlined. I like it and i'm sure people will like it too.

Naming electronics like Sony does is the worst idea ever. Bravia EX-900 or Xperia ZL sounds too neardy to me. If they want to reach more demographics, making it simple is a must imo.

Xbox is like that place where entertainement comes together in one place, that's why Microsoft are trying to make it sound simple. Want games, music, videos, apps ? Go to Xbox.

Simple, efficient and easy to market.

Lol pointless thread...

It says "The New Xbox" in the upper left and right below it "The New Xbox Entertainment Experience" or whatever. CLEARLY you can see the top portion of a vertical Xbox 360.

This is clearly just something about a dash update. Move along people.

I call bullshit on this, there's no way in hell (or is there?) that whoever is handling Microsoft's web development would have pushed this code to production blindly and reverted it back so quickly. You could argue that the load balancers threw you onto another server where the code was still old, but I highly doubt their servers would be that off-sync.

These things go through QA and are tagged under specific releases for deployment.

Hey dude have you seen new footage of "X" game?

Whaat no, which platform is it on?

It's on X-Box.

Wait, what? the old X-Box?

Noooo dude the neeeew X-Box.

Terrible name, i hope MS is not stupid enough to use that. 720, Durango or whatever is fine, but please don't call it just
"X-Box" or "The New X-Box"

Will they? I doubt many people will confuse it with something that hasn't been on sale for 8 years. Also not many people bought xbox's and if they did it was to play fairly 'hardcore' games like PGR and Halo.

This isn't a Wii vs Wii U situation where Wii's are still being sold, and it is one of the best selling video game platforms of all time. But the biggest issue for the Wii is that it sold to a whole new demographic that doesn't pay attention to anything in the video game space.

Then there is the other fact that Microsoft would market the shit out of it.

If Microsoft markets it as "The New Xbox" and makes explicitly clear that this thing is the successor to the 360 and is more powerful, then I don't think they have anything to worry about.

Nintendo fucked up with the Wii U's marketing by not making it clear to consumers that it wasn't just some add-on for the Wii. MS could easily avoid that by just hammering it into people's heads that this is a new shiny console.

All of these arguments of people being confused are ridiculous and quite frankly dumb.

People will assume you're talking about the latest things, especially when it comes to video games. When someone says iPad you think of the newest iPad, when someone says corvette, you think of the latest one that was just revealed.

I guess whenever there's something for people to poke at, they will

Still sounds REALLY dumb to me

Even Apple adds numbers to their new product releases.

If that really is going to be the name of the new xbox, they need to make sure they market it right. The thing with the iPad is, everyone knows that a new one means a brand new redesign and update and omgawez0mesauce.

Consumers not that in the know might see something with "New Xbox" on and think meh I have an elite, Ididn't want the slim version, and I don't want this version either. I know most people will know this is the next generation but not everyone pays that much attention. Just a thought.

A lot of friends call their xbox 360 the xbox most of the time and we know what we mean by it, calling a next gen console the new xbox is fine IMO, it's clear enough to know that it's the next step and i'm sure any packaging will explain it on the front, one thing I can't see microsoft trying is just having an image of the console on a white/black box with no wording like apple does.

What? No they don't.

iPads don't have numbers anymore, nanos, shuffles, touches, iMacs, MacBooks, Mac Minis, nine if those have numbers.

They only thing with numbers now is the iPhone.

yeah most of the time the number given to the ipad is sort of community born, with 3g, 4g and such for the ipad "with retina" version

It's like the iPad hasn't existed in your world

For the first year the new Xbox will be called just that 'The New Xbox' then it will gradually filter out and turn into just Xbox again

if anyone watches UFC, their current Flyweight champion is sponsored by XBOX 360 and is always labeled as such on his clothing, but the fight he did this past Saturday only said "XBOX". Let the speculation continue...

I have to laugh at the people who think just calling it the Xbox or the New Xbox is dumb and people will get confused. Obviously when someone walks into a store and says, "I'd like an Xbox," everyone will think they are trying to buy the original Xbox from early 2000s. Come on now...
