What's the goto flight sim these days? Also recommendations for games that work well with joystick/throttle?

Combat flight sim or civilian stuff? The DCS series is pretty much the most complete simulator but it focuses on specific planes instead of tackling dozens of different ones. You have the SU-25-T, the P-51 Mustang and the A-10 Warthog. They are all incredibly detailed and in-depth simulators. They also have the Blackshark simulator, a russian attack helicopter. What you need to keep in mind is that those games are simulating everything, not just the flying. If you want, you can press every single button in an A-10. It takes about 10 minutes of real-time for a clean and by the book take-off procedure.

You also have the IL2 series, with Sturmovik and Cliff of Dover. Sturmovik is the classic one with dozens of mods and a good deal of planes. COD hasn't been received as well and still has a lot of technical issues. It's also not as complete and Sturmovik.

I would say that MS Flight turned into a flop. When you fail at basic features like no cockpit view for DLC fighter planes...

I mean it's F2P, so it can't hurt to give it a try at least, but I still think FSX is still acknowledged to be better.

Beyond that, there's Take on Helicopters and X-Plane.

Yeah playing MSFlight right now and am not too impressed. Thanks for all the recommendations! I liked the old school ms flight sim back in the day. Is X like those ones?
(also what I wouldn't give for a remake of Chuck Yeager)

Yeah, FSX is a real flight simulator, not flying around model airplanes like MS Flight. It's pretty extensive, as far as air traffic control, full world coverage, airports, TrackIR support, fully interactive cockpits, and good tutorials to get you started.

X-Plane is another general flight simulator, but as far as I know it's not on Steam. FlightGear is an open-source free one, but last time I messed with it the graphics were really mediocre compared to the other simulators.

Half life 3 has to be in there somewhere.
I fucking lol'd. Thanks for making my night!

Can someone please tell me why I'm still browsing GAF and listening to the Hotline Miami soundtrack at 12:40 AM instead of doing something much more productive, like playing Deus Ex?

Do you like hurting other people?

Maybe GAF is just keeping you from doing it.

But I'm playing as a pacifist :(

Even though the game had a bug in one of the levels and called me a killer. I swear, I'm innocent and haven't killed anybody... yet.

I might actually play Halo if it comes out on Steam. Never owned an Xbox or 360.

I've never played a Halo game either. I'm still salty about what happened to games like system shock. Now that the cod crowd have made things come full circle I'd be willing to give it a go.

If it was real, which it wont be. If it is I want linux dedicated server support because why the hell not at this crazy point?

count me in too... but I wonder how this would impact the future of the Xbox... (if more and more Xbox exclusives come to Steam/Windows 8)

and boy... I LOVE BIG PICTURE MODE sweetest thing ever..

now to try to get things like Netflix and etc to work with it..

Negatively... You would just grab a PS4 and PC? Having the next xbox be a windows 8 steam box would have it make sense. Sure Gabe has hated on it endlessly, but given his PS3 history that is probably code for "here it comes".

Halo 3 w/ 4 player co-op on Legendary with 4 of my PC gaming buddies is gonna be dope.

Just thinking about it has me jonesing for a split-screen run with my bro.

it makes it all the more weirder. Xbox (the last time I read) is losing MS money.. and now with this.. there are directly cannabalizing their Xbox sales..

but then again the whole deal with Windows 8 is some form of seamless integration across all platforms..

but.. if this means a form of collaboration with MS + Steam..., Sony may have things to worry about :X

There was a plot?

I instinctively hated everything about the Arbiter when I played it for the first time, because I wanted more Master Chief story.

I replayed it not long ago and, weirdly enough, I think the Arbiter stuff is better fleshed out than the Chief stuff.

I haven't played Halo 4 yet, but I would like some more Arbiter development.

Kipp

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Guys. The Showdown Effect is so much fun. And the beta you get immediately with the preorder isn't even noticeably buggy! Highly recommended.

Yeah, that'd be pretty great so long as it doesn't focus on Brutes as enemies since they suck compared to Elites.
I never thought I'd be reading about Halo on a Steam thread, of all places xD

What a crazy world we live in.

Am I allowed to say I never played any of the games, except for the demo of the first game (which I hated) and 30 minutes of Halo 3 with a friend (which I also didn't like)?

Space Marine is GG's new Daily at 75% off ($12.49; presumably Aussie Taxed).
Damn, should have bought it when it was $7.50 on Steam with all the DLC.

So how is the sale of that game going to proceed? Will it soon disappear? Someone going to buy the franchise rights and take over? Someone going to buy the franchise rights and then not bother slapping a new publisher logo on it to sell it? If nobody buys it can THQ keep selling it?

You're allowed to but the Halo games (at least up to 3, haven't played enough of ODST, Reach or 4) are pretty great "wide area" shooters.

Some documents we got from the Relic sale confirmed that SEGA has the rights to the game but they still need the license from Games Workshop to sell it from what I understand.
