Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge confirmed for PS3,Xbox 360

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Yep.

This was my only question about the whole thing. I thought it was said that Nintendo held fund some of the changes and whatnot, but I guess that wasn't true. Not even sure how the port would be possible if so.

They may have, or they may have just contributed with some guidance or whatever. Either way, they did have some investment in the project, if just as the publisher.

What it really comes down to is the contract. Regardless of Nintendo, Razor's Edge was probably going to exist one way or the other. They formed a temporary partnership for launch exclusivity on the Wii U, and now that contract is up.

That's what makes situations like this and GoldenEye different from something like Bayonetta 2, and why I don't think Bayonetta 2 will leave the Wii U. Not unless SEGA somehow got some sneaky caveat past Nintendo in the contract, which would be highly unlikely.

It's co-owned between Tecmo Koei and Nintendo. That's why Tecmo Koei still has the trademark.

But how do we know that Nintendo co-owns the IP?

You could say due to the "(C) Nintendo/Tecmo Koei" copyright, but don't Nintendo put that in all their published games?

UNLESS they didn't with Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, then you could be right. o_O

Edit: Well, seems that Ninja Gaiden doesn't show Nintendo in its copyright, I guess Nintendo officially co-own the IP after all, so it's like Pokemon in status where it's co-owned but is essentially 1st-party?

My response:

WHY?!

Banjo, Sonic, Bomberman, of all the IPs... :'(

Watching this news i cannot do anything but laugh at nintendo... they really can't keep a damn exclusive, now even if it's founded by them i started to question also the Bayo2 exclusiveness.

...enjoy the
shitty
game for the ones interested.

The copyright filing for Fatal Frame was updated last year to show that Nintendo co-owns the IP.

Also speaking of Fatal Frame, they need to announce a Wii U game yesterday, taking full advantage of the gamepad.

That, and compare the legal terms on the boxes:

Fatal Frame says:

"(C) 2012 Nintendo / TECMO KOEI GAMES CO., LTD.
"TRADEMARKS ARE PROPERTY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS.
"Wii IS A TRADEMARK OF NINTENDO.
"PROJECT ZERO IS A TRADEMARK OF TECMO KOEI GAMES CO., LTD.
"(C) 2012 Nintendo."

The bolded is what I assume indicates that Nintendo owns at least part of the Fatal Frame IP.

Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge says:

"NINJA GAIDEN(tm) 3: Razor's Edge
(C)2012 TECMO KOEI GAMES CO, LTD.
All rights reserved.
NINJA GAIDEN, Razor's Edge, the TECMO logo and the Team NINJA logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of TECMO KOEI GAMES CO, LTD.
The KT logo is a trademark or a registered trademark of TECMO KOEI HOLDINGS CO, LTD.
Published by Nintendo.
Trademarks are property of their respective owners.
Wii U is a trademark of Nintendo."

Note the complete lack of "(C) 2012 Nintendo" for Razor's Edge. It just says "Published by Nintendo" instead, indicating that it's only a publishing deal...no ownership involved.

So Nintendo = own the copyright.

Tecmo Koei = own the trademark.

Is that possible?

I guess it's just the name TK own (it's got like three fucking names worldwide...).

Pokemon again is the same, or the other way around?

Nintendo/Creatures/Game Freak own the... copyright right?

And Nintendo owns the trademark? I remember in credits saying Nintendo owns the Pikachu name and such.

And also, Fatal Frame 4 is one Wii game that needs a Wii U port, to fix the issues and localize it, for such a relatively iconic IP, Nintendo's not doing much with it outside Japan.

Yep.

Fatal Frame:

* Nintendo and Tecmo Koei joint-own the copyright. Nintendo helps out with development / funding...and they get Nintendo exclusivity for all future Fatal Frame titles

* Tecmo Koei owns the Fatal Frame trademark, so Nintendo can't make a new Fatal Frame game without Tecmo Koei's permission

Ninja Gaiden:

* Tecmo Koei owns SOLE copyright over Razor's Edge and the Ninja Gaiden franchise

* Naturally, they would also own all trademarks

* Nintendo struck a worldwide timed exclusivity deal with Tecmo Koei to keep Razor's Edge Wii U exclusive initially

* I ASSUME as part of this deal, the game will remain exclusive in North America and Europe (as shown by Nintendo publishing instead of Tecmo Koei)

Besides, I really think Nintendo would put a clause in their contract that prevents Tecmo Koei from pulling the wool over their eyes and releasing a Sigma port / have full English-language voice and text for the Japanese version with no region locks. They MUST be keeping this one exclusive to Japan, or else they wouldn't have published the damn Wii U version in the first place.

* The PS3 / 360 Razor's Edge title is NOT a Sigma-level upgrade... it just has a few more features to entice fans in Japan to buy the game again

It's considerably bigger than any Sigma edition I've played.

There doesn't seem to be any "visual upgrade" in this port, and we're probably going to see "the Ninja Trials" coming to the Wii U as DLC, but we don't know the full extent of the new PS3 / 360 port, so I'll just remove that point for now.

Naturally, it's Off-TV Play and having the combo listing on the GamePad!

The combat was responsive in Razor's Edge right? No more delays after doing a combo that would leave you open?

Great news, anyway!
Omg, what the hell is going on here?

Dead

well not really...yet
The game was really awkward to play on the Wii U pad.

also LOL at adding even more content on top of what was on the original Razor's Edge.

Will probably get it for PS3 I guess (if this comes to the US)

Dismemberment and gore was added. Multiple characters were added, new stroy mode chapters, ability to play any level with any character, online co-op, etc. . . were added from Vanilla to RE. From WiiU to 360/PS3 are probably going to be very close if that's what you're talking about. Hopefully they optomize it so there's less slowdowns.

Then we will see DOA: 5plus very soon :)

The only things DoA5+ is adding to the Vita is some first person mode and more detailed frame data.

The game has to be the same otherwise because of crossplay/cross save.

Has anyone who played original NG3 and RE have positive thoughts on it? I've been avoiding the whole mess but I'll give it a try if it transformed into something decent.

It is something decent. Not great, not bad, exactly. Some fun sprinkled throughout the mess that was NG3. The chapter challenges are very fun. They did a great job with the new characters.

So wait, Tecmo Koei took Nintendo's money to make NG3 better and add new content, then ported that content over to PS360?

...

Nintendo can't be that stupid and said "yeah well, a 4-month-exclusivity contract will do fine", now can they?

The reason for that is that Fatal Frame is a Nintendo IP now, whereas Ninja Gaiden obviously isn't.
So yeah, you're probably right.

How often does a Nintendo console get any 3rd party game exclusively?

If they "took Nintendo's money", they did so within the confines of a contract that clearly stated limited exclusivity and likelihood of a port to a new system. Unless Nintendo paid for nothing except distribution, or their lawyers are idiots.

EDIT: Wrong quote.
Should I buy now or wait for Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge Sigma Plus for Vita? Hmm

Do it for the sub-native res and
15
fps.

Anyway, my opinion on Razor's Edge is that Team Ninja took a 3/10 game and made it into a 6.5-7/10 game, but it's still worse then even the Sigmas. The combat mechanics are there and the additions are neat (Cicada Surge is pretty fun) but the combat itself just isn't as tight or polished. The boss battles aren't all that great, and the bosses from the past games were nerfed hard. Alma is a complete joke now.

There is a ton of slowdown too. I hesitate to call it a framerate drop, but it is very obvious and even intrusive at times. Some segments will be perfectly fine despite projectile throwing enemies and tons of effects, and others will chug when there's no enemies onscreen.

There is fun to be had though and I enjoy playing it despite the issues I've listed.

Rayman is a whole other story. That NG3 will come to PS360 at least in Japan was clear from the start.

What reason is there to think it's any different with Rayman in the west? Ubisoft puts everything on everything. Is Nintendo even publishing Legends?

I love how people complain that Wii U has no exclusives and then when there's a game (Rayman in this case) worth a damn, people want it ported over to every other system or cry.

Ok, in 2014 I'm expecting Bayonetta 2: 240FPS edition for PS4 and 720 :D

This will sure happen - in some form or another.

I'm pretty sure a lot of work on Bayonetta 2 was finish before Nintendo brought the publishing right for B2 from SEGA.

IP belong to SEGA thought.

The game isn't even finished NOW never mind before lol. Nintendo picked that up from the grave. Nobody wanted to pay for a sequel. Don't get too happy lol

'Bayonetta 2' would not exist without Nintendo, says Platinum Games

"Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes," says Atsushi Inaba, executive director at Platinum Games. He tells Polygon that Nintendo, the sequel's publisher, was a key partner in getting the game made.

I'm curious to see if the new assets (obliteration, AI, etc) will also have impact on PS360 versions or if the Wii U will be the total inferior version.

I'm sad, I've just bought Wii U's version and I'm really liking. But I always prefer to play the best version and the frame rate is really awful on Wii U =(

Is there any chance of TK fix the Wii U's version? =(

I'd put money on another big Wii U "exclusive" being announced as multi-plat soon. As soon as tomorrow, in fact.

this is either rayman, lego, or bayonetta. i'll go with rayman.

edit: it could be dqx or monster hunter 3gu too. the quotations around exclusive point to something like that. not a whole lot to choose from, honestly.

I am playing through the entire Ninja Gaiden series right now. I am up to Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and the game is amazing.

I am buying vanilla NG3 from a friend for $5. I am really looking forward to seeing how bad the game is, especially for so cheap.

Will buy Wii U Razor's Edge when it's really cheap just to see the improvements.

Speaking of Vita versions. I'm playing Sigma plus right now. Is there any way to get back to the main menu from in game?
