SNES Game Collecting (Tips, discussion, and info for like minded collectors)

Mother of god. I would buy one of these for sure if it could do this. That would be basically perfect.

I'm pretty sure the SuperUFO can't patch on the fly. It's a piece of crap. The only value to it, is being able to copy the rom and save file off the cart to an sd. The manufacturer makes a lot of promises that the cart can't do. For one, it says it can play special chip games if you have one with the chip plugged in on top. The implication is that you can play Star Fox 2 on real hardware with the rom as long as you have Star Fox, or some other SuperFX game plugged in on top, and that's simply not true.

This thread is killing me. I've got a pretty great SNES collection, but there's always been that handful of games I could never find and I just never took to the Internet to find them. Now I'm all aggravated and want to spend money I just don't have right now.

Great thread. I bought a SFC not so long ago as I wanted to have proper copies of all the games I truly loved as a small person, and I decided to go CIB only because they're so very pretty. Outwith Umihara Kawase they've not been too expensive either although all the games I have left on my list now (the Castlevanias specifically) are sadly toward the higher end.

All my batteries still work too! It's amazing to think how many times some of these have probably changed hands in two decades and the number of people who must've had fun with them at some point and they're still hanging on entertaining me now in 2013.

I'm an N64 kid (and I intend to collect N64 games someday), but I officially started my Super Nintendo (well, Famicom) collecting a few months ago:

So far, it's the console and a Japanese Gameboy Player. But I'm gonna start picking up some classics soon.

N64 is pretty easy to build a decent library for, unless prices start to rise for some reason. Even Ogre Battle 64 is reasonably priced.

EDIT: I've always thought third party converter type accessory names were funny. They're always named stuff like Super bee blaster 7 :p

Still wish NA received the same SNES design as JP and EU.

lol. I just re-bought Mega Man X for $23 this morning. Safe to say it look the opposite of that horrible thing. lol

Indeed. I prob have about 40 N64 games now with 25 prob costing me like $150 total max.

I don't really want to go OT but what are some of the rare n64 games or potential future games that will be harder to find later on?

Ogre Battle 64 is probably the only one I'm missing, but I don't know most of the hidden gems.

I got it for $6 locally a few weeks ago. The back was covered in stickers, front was perfect. Grabbed a .10 cent sports game also and put it's back on the MMX, fantastic looking game for $6.10. Wish I could find part 2 and 3 for that good of a deal.

I saw this last night and laughed when I saw it

Dude, he says it works fine. That's all that matters!

While not hidden, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Smash Bros both go for $30+. So when N64 prices start to go up, I see those going up by a lot.

Already happening, Conker frequently goes for 50-60 just for a cart now.

You want to jump on the valuable games before they get even higher? Nab the blockbuster exclusives (Clay Fighter Sculptor's Cut, International Superstar Soccer 2000, etc) right away. Those are already going way up and they aren't coming back down any time soon.

I have those two already so I think I'm going to be fine. Found CBFD at EB Games for $7 CIB about 7 years ago. Best find ever.

Just checked the prices. My God...

funny how genesis/mega drives are still so cheap, but snes games arnt.
Also that PS1 systems are like $5 and NES systems go for like $20. lol

The cheapest system I've seen so far are the original GBAs. Seriously, those things are worthless. lol

Every PS system can run PS1 games so thats probably why. Seriously cant think of any advantage to running on original PS1 hardware...unless there is something i'm not aware of. Original GBA is probably just cool to look at...thats about it :p

Why are there so many boxes out there for the Japanese versions, and in such nice shape? I assumed they're fake or something?

They're not fake, there are just more of them to begin with I think. There are plenty of loose SFC carts on eBay too.

Also I live in Europe and I buy a lot of my SFC games from Europe so the people who spent £s importing them here in the first place definitely weren't doing it to let grubby-handed kids anywhere near them.

That's a great idea. I think my Super Adventure Island has a damaged cart, but I don't remember if it was the front or the back. I'll have to take a look. Would be great to be able to replace it.

If you are worried about it staying authentic (which the hardcore collectors are) just make sure the backs match. There are variants out there (made in different countries), but they're all easy to find so no reason to not keep it the same.

Funny that was actually going to be my next question. Yeah I would double check the backs for sure. Thanks for the tip.

I asked him to upload a photo of him playing it.

It's Mega Man X. Was hoping for a surprise X3.

I want to save that cart, give it a new home, a new life... It has no future in that wasteland.

I will take the bullet for you should you wish to back out...

Whenever I see SNES or N64 games for less than a buck I pick them up for this reason as well as importing!

Sometimes I randomly see great Japanese N64 games at swap meets. All I do is swap the backs with NTSC ones and they work perfectly. No system modding required!

Good grief. The dungeon it's in is even scarier than the cart.

That dead pile of yellow SNES's to the left reminds me of that scene from Alien Resurrection. "Kill Me..."

Any rare, valuable items in my collection of NES, SNES, and GameBoy items? SNES games are a little hard to make out in the pic so just let me know if you need clarification.

I think Turtles in Time is probably your most valuable game there and your NES stuff looks to be in lovely condition.

Haha. I'll take it! Would be difficult to part with anyway.

Thanks! Still love playing Turtles in Time every now and then. Actually found the NES stuff out in my garage (belonged to my wife's family). Couldn't believe they still had all the boxes.

Yeah. Those NES games are nice looking. Probably get a couple hundred for them.

EDIT: Quick math looking at sold versions, boxed games came out to about $240. Of course then you have to pay ebay/paypal/shipping.

You have my top 5 NES games there, and in much better condition than I do with the exception of Kung Fu. I am kinda jelly XD
