All this negativity wont overcome my staunch love for the Aliens universe. Hell, if I could force myself to enjoy Prometheus, I can enjoy Colonial Marines...right?

Interesting way to look at it. I suppose if I could force myself to enjoy eating live worms, I could enjoy eating live grasshoppers as well, all because I love insects so much...assuming insects are a good...fran...chise...

Yeah, there's my convoluted analogy.

I liked AvP 2010. it wasn't amazing, but it was fun. I had some fun with the MP too.
I liked Duke Nukem Forever. It was a bad game in so many ways, but that didn't stop me from getting sucked in all the way to the end.

My worry with A:CM isn't that it'll be a bad Aliens game. I can deal with that, and even get some enjoyment out of it. I'm worried that it'll be a bad human shooting humans game, with some Aliens thrown in there. I've still got it pre-ordered, I guess I'll find out in a couple days.

Pretty sure I'll get some fun out of this one day... But it will be at a lower price.

This game honestly feels like it started off as an Aliens game, then the devs were like, na wait we need some Call of Duty in there, people love Call of Duty.

Then half way through they were like, guys wait a sec we should be making an Aliens game and not something that feels like an unpolished Call of Duty game in space.

Then they sat down and said guys we need more time to actually fix this game, o wait we've had 4 years, well I guess lets just roll the dice and release it now.

People will love it because of the Call of Duty parts, whooooo!! well done team !

This game had mad potential, cant believe how bad it turned out, like seriously bad.

Totally going into the PC version Tuesday with rose tinted glasses.

I've been avoiding video and spoilers but fear this will be a
"hold me by the hands and go here", shoot some enemies, quicktime event,
wash, rinse and repeat type experience.

It gives me new respect for COD campaigns. I can't believe this is the same dev that made Borderlands 2. Whatever people's opinions of that game are, it has a level of polish far beyond Aliens: CM.

Exactly, the amount of polish on COD makes it look like a diamond compared to this ball of coal covered in poop.

I think what happened is they got all their best devs to work on Boarderlands 2 and all their trainee devs or really poorly skilled devs to work on Aliens.

I get the feeling that if one of the devs working on boarderlands 2 rocked up late for work or something the team would be like, Tim your late again, that's one week working on the new Aliens game.Tim would be like Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then Tim would work on the game with one hand, well he tweeted about what an ass his boss is with the other. Not really giving a shit the whole time, and it shows.

I am up to Chapter 8 on Hardened difficulty now.

It fully glitched out on me towards the end of Chapter 7, where I couldn't do anything but move for several minutes, until I triggered the next in-game cinematic. Then during an earlier 'boss' battle, I glitched the Xenomorph into a wall, where I gleefully watched it spin around and around.

Everything just furthers my view Gearbox was trying to one-up Duke Nukem: Forever. Or something.

But even through all this, that evil nostalgia is slowly creeping in...
like finding Newt's doll in Chapter 5. ;_;
I guess I am tsundere for shit games. Whatever.

Even if the gameplay doesn't break new ground and the game is 7/10ish... the fact that it's set in the Aliens universe would bring it up to an 8.5ish for me, so I'm still looking forward to it. It's not like Gearbox is an untalented studio.

Does anyone know the quality of the statue?

I think I am probably going to cancel my 2 PS3 CE preorders, eventhough it breaks my heart to do so :(

the statue is OK

Havent played the game yet, but it should be instant death if a xenomorph grabs you. It has claws, a sharp tail, is extremely strong and fast, and of course has the head bite. No homosapien should stand a chance when it comes to hand-to-hand melee. Closest thing was in Alien 3 when the black religious guy wresled it for like 10 seconds.

You are right. You could add even more points that make an alien so deadly/strong.

That is the problem these days. No one is trying new things. Close combat = instant death should have been one of the fundamentals of A:CM's gameplay design.

It would have been cool if they tried a different kind of core-gameplay mechanic or just invented it (is that too much to ask).

I've often thought about what kind of gameplay philosophys would fit an Alien FPS the best. I think the ideas behind ZombiU and Dark Souls would have been a good fit.

Also teamplay should be more important. Keeping the alien at distance at all costs, too. You can kill an alien if it's not too close, no problem, but once it actually makes it to you, you should have very little chances.

That's when the motion tracker could play a big role. The motion tracker should be something that is immensely important to you in knowing where your enemy is and keeping a distance.

Well, to those who have played it yet: How important is the motion tracker in the game?

Wasn't that one of the things people were most looking forward to?

Sad thing is Gearbox already made an aliens game...their first one to be exact. Opposing forces had cocksure marines being slaughtered at the start, alien gribblies and tons of vent crawling.

Seriously, I can't finish it. Packed it up ready to go to the store tomorrow.

Can't wait for the reviews to drop. I'm predicting a lot of 4's.

Why is it generic dude, and not Ripley piloting it?
Because it's set after Aliens. Ripley is presumably in prison town or about to be ejected into space.
Seriously - what is that guy hoping to achieve fighting that alien in a power loader? ABSURD.

I honestly can't believe how this has turned out. What a disappointment. I sort of knew deep down after that "bull" alien vid with Pitchford talking over it that it was probably going in the wrong direction but the final game sounds like total horseshit. So, so much wasted potential.

Aliens colonial Marines walkthrough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPXBEmxnLfk

game looks very low budget and uninteresting for a game that's been in development for so long
It looks a little round the edges but I actually think the lighting is pretty nice. To me it just seems like they spent so much time recreating the movie and locations than they forgot to make a really compelling new gaming experience for it. It's ok as fan service I guess, if you're into that. I think I expected more.

I feel for people playing the 360 version, screentearing is horrendous beyond belief. Really to the point to where it was hard for me to watch the video at points, much less imagining playing it. Really hoping the PC version is a lot more fun to play without these technical issues. Level in that video at least looks like there are multiple entry points to rooms which is nice, not entirely corridor to corridor.

Edit: Anyone have a comprehensive list of additions/changes that ultimate badass mode brings? Heard that it allows you to remove the hud which is really nice so I imagine we'll be playing on it from the start.

The game looks like early current gen titles (2006). On top of that it has horrible animations and tons of screen tearing. And it´s absolutely not ok as fanservice, the Aliens are a joke, the acid has barely any effect, you are fighting against human enemies lots of the time which are as braindead as the aliens and on top of that the game has absolutely zero atmosphere.

Oh. I t looks rough as I said, wouldn't quite go that far, though.
Don't take it as me excusing the game. I was hyped for this and am now avoiding it like herpes. It looks like trash and i WILL NOT let my love of all things Aliens sway my wallet. It was more a dig that someone would play a shitty game just to get a nod to their favourite flick ;)

I´m also a huge Alien fan and i hoped for a at least mediocre game because i devour everything that is somehow connected to the Alien universe. But this game is just disgusting, not even worth it for the biggest Alien fas on earth.

Without giving too much away. Why are we fighting humans in an Aliens game?

Yes, I know you can play PC games with a controller. I'm not an idiot. But anyone who buys a PC shooter and then uses a controller is, IMO.

You know, I'm not so sure...

Using a controller is absolutely fine on pc, just don't expect to be as competitive as m&kb if you decide to hop online with it.

Yeah, normally I'd be sucking this up day one. I fucking love Aliens. Far and away my favourite movie.

But there's a point where dressing up an otherwise totally forgettable, scripted, phoned-in focus-grouped game with pulse rifles and motion tracker sound effects and Newt references needs to be ignored. It's just shameless cashing in without being anything new to the table. I saw that ending movie. I actually laughed at how dreadfully amateur and stupid it was, like a horrible melodramatic b-movie remake.

Over exaggerate much?
