The game launches tomorrow and not a single review in Metacritic. All the best signals.
Hasn't the game pretty much been released everywhere by now? I thought it was the job of these review sites to inform people about games they are about to buy. Shame it'll be too late for some poor souls.

There's a review embargo in effect until launch day.
Yeah, I know - just pointing out the ridiculousness of that fact, basically stopping these people getting word out about a shitty game until too many people have bought it.

Yes, but publications sign review embargoes, so you can't really publish anything, even now SEGA decided to release the game earlier on Steam or if stores are selling it...

I can see a few 3's and 4's for this if this thread and some hints from reviewers are much to go by.

A Eurogamer 5 and an Edge 4 and I'll pick this up in a future Steam sale I guess.

Apparently that isn't some freakish bug, that's an actual level where zombie-like Aliens need to track you by sound for some reason. WHAT THE FUCK.

If true, that would be an even bigger fuckup, aliens always track by sound, like bats.
they dont even have goddamn eyes, what were they thinking?

and even if, they wouldnt move the fuck like that.

dam that game is going to make me angry when I buy it for 2 bucks at a steam sale.

That dog is badass, and cute.

That alien just looks like a shambling zombie. Why is it walking around in circles!

Well it has been never said they dont have eyes, giger didnt include visible eyes because design wise he thought it was scarier that way, there are multiple theories (even one that they see trough the attack tongue) that they do have some sort of sight (visibile or not)

Also, further evidence to back this up is the scene in A4 were Geidman threatens an alien with a red button that activates liquid nitrogen. The alien turns it's head and seems to react with fear when it sees the button. There's obviously no pheremones coming from a machine, or anywere else because there is a reinforced glass wall between them.

This awkward Aliens gimped limpy GIF pretty much sums up past, present, and all future Aliens games in one fell swoop. Disappointed am total :(
In a weird way, the kind of behavior is almost more terrifying than the typical jump scares used by these games. I mean, the animation is too goofy for it to work here, but I enjoy seeing enemies go about their business. It's one of the things that made System Shock 2 somewhat scary at times (you could here and often see enemies moving around without knowing your location).

It's just a shame it looks so stupid here. :\

I guess they were going for a mobile 'Witch' from L4D?

They're obviously based on the real kind of insect or termite that explodes when threatened/attacked. So it's not completely ridiculous, especially given the insect comparisons in Aliens, it just looks really stupid in that shot.

So the release date on Steam just changed from the 12th to the 11th and the main Store page is showing the game as released but in fact it's still locked and reviews wont be out till tommorow? This seems a bit shady...

So, is the Gearbox of today just a two hit wonder of Borderlands?

First DNF and now this? I hoped this game will really deliver.

They are capable of creating great games when they are not leaning on over the top action and black humor (Borderlands) but it just feels like that that is not where their love is at.

I can still remember Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 and I always enjoyed that one, but nothing trumps their Borderlands work.

It's stated multiple times in the Dark Horse books that they do not have conventional sight, and even the AvP games indicate that the visuals of the Alien campaigns are meant to represent the aliens' mental construction of the world based on scent, pheromones, and electromagnetic sensitivity.

The most direct statement is probably from the original Aliens vs. Predator comic, in which a Predator dies because he tries to hide from the aliens using optic camo, and, as the narration observes, "Invisibility is of little use against creatures with no eyes." Considering the amount of intercompany discussions that had to occur in the planning and writing of that series (the first time the franchises crossed over), I'd say it's pretty reliable info.

Also, further evidence to back this up is the scene in A4 were Geidman threatens an alien with a red button that activates liquid nitrogen. In the battle between 35 years of consistent creature design and one horribly thought-out sequel, I think I'm going to side with the former.

As discussed in the prometheus thread, the dark horse comics arent considered canon in the alien univserse.
they portray the engineers as sort of elephant creatures

And besides Giger nor scott never confirmed or denied that they have actual eyes.

After watching Prometheus, Prometheus isn't canon either.

isnt even aliens not canon? I read once giger/scott had a completely different reproduction cycle in mind, witthout a queen.

One of the early Alien designs has a transparent headpiece showing a skull with eye holes underneath, but I prefer the idea of hive mind/telepathy.
