What could the middle touch-pad be used for?

Hmm.. if that's an actual leak, can't this guy get in some serious trouble? anyone who works there can probably tell this is in their office. he showed way too much ;p

That was from more than a year before launch, this is around 6 months out, it's likely incredibly close to the final product except for any cosmetic changes such as the finish.

Yes, it was to show that prototypes look cheap. The final product usually doesn't.

It doesn't look like a Vita back touch, seems to have more of a screen like quality. Maybe it will be an LED display (or whatever you call those displays on DVD players etc)?

That could allow for multiple custom buttons.

It doesn't look as sleek as the old dualshock because it appears very large and the handle thingys at the bottom are definitely larger to accomodate people's complaints before ( I never had much of a issue) but I can definitely tell that the controller will fix people's complaints of "the claw".

It just doesn't look very appealing.

Also, please ditch sixaxis and motion control sony.

I absolutely hate playing fl0w or even worse is heavy rain. It ruins immersion in the game and is just tedious. I'm paying more attention and worrying about what buttons I press and consequently lost Jayden on my first playthrough yesterday because of wonky explanations on sixaxis.

i really just dont understand a touch pad that small?

what else can you do on it other than just replace physical start/select buttons?

On second glance, this looks very real. I love the overall design, I just want the final version to be a bit more streamlined, which I am betting it surely will be.

There should be a touch screen instead of the touch pad. Touch screen is much more useful for typing and menu navigation. Sony cheapened out on a very important element here imo, even though a touch screen would cost them $5.
I dunno man. It'd be cool for 'soft' buttons I guess but I don't want to be looking down at my controller during a game.

I reckon there's a headphone / mic socket in the bottom middle. You can just see a little something protruding.

Trackpad. There's one on my media keyboard a third of that size but the high sensitivity makes it pretty effective.

Don't reallly care how it looks as long as it is comfortable.

I do like the way those sticks are looking, hopefully they are less sensitive than the DS3.

This is....terrible.

If this is final, I don't know what I am going to do.

Buy it anyway and live with it?

You probably would, but I doubt that ugly thing is going to be final. If there's anything Sony likes doing, it's making their shit look sleek.

YOOOO What if you can use the middle pad to navigate the UI like the way you do it on the Vita? You could even "tear" the "pages" of games or app up and go into another app like the Vita.

Seriously, what is the point of a touchpad that small? Like how will that impact anything?
Touchpad needs to be bigger for sure.

The (PSEye) light emitter and speaker/mic makes me believe it's genuine. Practical additions.

Looks great! I really don't understand the whole touch pad thing. But maybe Sony will show that it's an awesome idea (I think not, but still!).
