...well at least I can still play fighting games on it.
I don't expect that black bar which I assume is a touch screen of sorts to be recieved very well.

Are you sure the buttons aren't bigger? At first glance, I was thinking they were slightly larger than before.

I'm pretty sure that comparison doesn't work with the perspective and without knowing if the facebutton size have been changed.

The only thing I really want from PS4 controller, is that that it fits better in my hands, and they fix the trigger buttons. This chubby girl looks like she'll fit nicely iin my paws. They will need to sell me on the built in move part, I hope they call it six-axis 2!

Mandatory Kinect with Durango: Booooooo!
Mandatory gimmicks within Orbis controllers: Yaaaaaay!

Actually, I can think of some really neat, non-invasive ways that a touch pad on a regular controller could provide.

Instead of pressing through inventory, you could put your finger on the touch pad then slide to the item you want. That's already worth the addition right there, and it's just one simple idea.

Unless you're just trying to stir up arguments, in which case, proceed.

150 dollar camera vs a touch panel in the controller

Can't wait to see the improved triggers, those on the DS3 are real shitty.

Sony will make a HUGE comeback, that's just my feeling.

We will find out on the 20th. Just 6 days to go!

Kinect isn't exactly as proven a science as touch-screens. The Move also functions better and has been less force-fed this gen to gamers. Plus, this also doesn't look super-expensive, although I expect a controller to be $60-75 now for PS4.

This rough controller has a lot going for it, if it's real. The d-pad and improved sticks alone... it's a refinement and not a 100% redo, which I always appreciate.

Maybe Sony is a little bit too proud about their innovation.

Yes, TouchPad's work. They work better, however, when you can't see them. Otherwise, use a screen. Use a really low quality screen, even.

Megaton Explanation

Not sure if this has been said before, but noticing how small that touch-pad is to me I can't see any real gameplay use.

However! What if the touchpad had mappable buttons/areas by devs? E.g the left area might glow with a little map icon in an RPG and players touch it to bring up the map in game.

Or I could be completely wrong...

Same thing vita use for games. For example iron sights for Unit48. A lot of vita games uses screen

Hard to say whether or not there's a single color display under it, but tapping the left/right side as extra buttons would be a very easy, straightforward thing to use it for. Sliding up/down either side would also work well as zoom control or a scrolling weapon/item selector.

That... doesn't sound half bad actually

Wait, they're building the Move into the controller? I didn't know this actually. So...how will that work?

I don't think it will replace move. Perhaps it's there to help with some motions that sixaxis could not detect (yaw)... Hopefully with this addition we'll get gyro aiming like in golden abyss on vita.

Sony has no shame. Are they really going to try to sell screens on controllers having seen Nintendo innovate that approach with the WiiU? Ripping off rumble from the N64 controller, motion controls with the Sixaxis, and now SCREENS with this unnamed PS4 controller, I have never been more disappointed. Can they not come up with an innovative idea for once in their companies lives? At least with the Vita they at least tried to innovate with rear touch panel capabilities, but this is just getting ridiculous. Sony I sincerely hope you change your plans while you have the time. Maybe then will I consider dropping money on this travesty.

What in the actual fuck?

Share doesn't have to be a button. Honestly you might not want that to be button you can accidentally press. Making it something that you use the touchscreen or whatever that ends up being may be a better option.

If Sony adds a little bit more weight + better triggers this will be a nice pad...casual gimmicks aside.

People whine about Kinect more because it's unappealing to the core, it has less to do with its functionality. (same applies to move stuff but he has a point there )

y'all should be ashamed
I hope the touchpad is multitouch. Two finger tap for friends list, three for sending message, four for chat window, etc.

Firstly, I am pretty confident this is a prototype. It doesn't looked finished- particularly the D-pad; where are all the logos?

There is something strange going on with the shoulder buttons. It almost looks like there is only room for 2 shoulder buttons.

Way better then I expected. I like it. Consumer version will bump up the production quality obviously. Vita d-pad, nice touchpad, included mic and built in Move support without sixaxis. Pretty much all I hoped for.

i think you guys are jumping ahead of yourselves with the move light...six axis didn't work well because of the pad controller form factor, i don't think it will now either. If it actually is move, than dumb move by Sony..its a plain waste of resource

With PSEye possibly being bundled does anyone think it has lost the Mic Array due to the controllers possibly having them?
