I suppose the headset jack will more easily allow them to bundle a headset?

Just as long as the don't take away bluetooth and usb options, I guess this can't be a bad thing to add to the controller.

I think the headset jack makes it *less* likely they'll bundle a headset - just use any headphone/mic combination you prefer.

I kicked up the contrast a bit so that you can see a bit more detail.

Man, this looks really good. Well, minus the light bar. I'm really not too sure about all that. I think the speaker could actually end up being pretty awesome.

I hope you can shoot with the triggers now. Shooting with the shoulder buttons was kind of dumb.

No way. I prefer the L1 R1 buttons for aim/shoot. Feels more natural to me. That could be just because I don't like the way the shoulder buttons are higher than the triggers on the 360 controller though.

Definitely.

Iirc they used L2/R2 in Mass Effect 2 and it felt very awkward.

I'm really loving that new picture of the controller!!

So that's a microphone on the front? I guess everyone will be able to voicechat now, that's pretty cool.

Having a 3.5mm headphone jack should be standard on all 3 consoles. Love that feature on the Wii U!

I'm getting so excited

Or so it appears. Via Ashler in the VG247 thread.

Edit:

That looks a lot less bulky than the first picture. Maybe a prototype that's further along?

I like the idea of rounded grips a lot

I actually like this picture a lot the more I look at it. I'd be very happy if this was a somewhat final version of the controller.

The problem with the move triggers, or triggers in general, is that it forces your hand into a certain position. I'm sure there is a better solution than the DS3s "triggers" but I don't think I want concave like buttons.

Why would they need to bundle a headset?? it seems that's a microphone in the middle of the controller. Just plug in your headphone jack or use your TV as the output source and everyone will have a mic.

oh man I hope those d-pad buttons are spaced out like they are on the current pad.

No, Vita d-pad is the best one I've ever felt. Keep it like that

They should work on the colors of the buttons. Looks pretty dated.

The should be white like the Vita's. Really classy

That new photo addresses my concerns about bulkiness. 360-like analogue triggers too?

Fuck. If Sony keep learning from their mistakes and make PSN as accessible as XBL then things are looking great for them and the PS4.

Looks like CVG's sources are confirming pretty much everything we've concluded from the pics:

The unverified image, said to have first appeared on the GameTrailers forum, matches up with yesterday's leaked PS4 controller image, which development sources have confirmed to CVG is real.

The new PlayStation controller features a PS Vita-like touch pad - which CVG understands can be 'clicked' - and redesigned anolog sticks with concave indents, which our sources indicate will be included on the final model. The grill beneath the touch pad houses an internal speaker system, while at the base there is a headphone jack input. An illuminated panel along the top of the controller can change colour and behaves just like a Move controller, a development source has told CVG.

neat.

This is my favorite mockup to date:
I0Q3KPD.gif

its a good mockup but very unrealistic. its not a screen on the controller, only a touchpad.

Oh man, they've increased the length and bulk of the handles. This makes me VERY happy. That combined with what looks to be improved analogue sticks and reports of proper triggers and I'm a happy camper. I've been moaning about the stick placement but it's starting to look like that'll be my only complaint.

Looks kind of GameCubey if anything, and that's a good thing.

They wont have to bundle a headset if that controller has a built in Mic AND Speaker where you can hear people and talk through the controller. You could still use your own headset if you like, but people who do not have an alternate headset could simply use the controller.

you should be wanting the d-pad to be like the vita one (which it appears to be in the pictures). trust me.

Absolutely.

They should work on the colors of the buttons. Looks pretty dated.

I agree with this. The colors definitely look outdated. More intense, saturated colors would be cool. I guess more neon looking. Or even plain white would be better, I think.

But, that is a small quibble on what otherwise looks like a great controller. i'm hoping that built in speaker is of a decent quality.

Should've gone the way of the Vita. So classy and beautiful

Concave sticks and larger, makes me wonder why they moved away from the original DualAnalog design, as it had both things.

504x_dual-analog-shock-lights.jpg

I like the fact that DS3 analog sticks were convex. Concave analog for PS4 will make it much harder when aiming. Think about it, you want as little resistance as possible when turning the sticks up for example. When you have concave sticks you have to "dig" into the sticks with the thumbs rather than just push the sticks upwards. It's a subtle difference but it's there. That's just my personal opinion.
