Crysis 3 beats Metal Gear Rising in UK Sales, Aliens: Colonial Marines beats both

seems like it was pretty close
Just 5500 copies separated the top two - and it's worth remembering that Crysis 3 was also available on PC.

But neither sold as many as Aliens: Colonial Marines did last week, when it topped the chart.

and why are people still buying Aliens?

Aliens had -84% drop. the game was only top last week and sold like mad was because of name, the drop this week shows no one likes the game. u can bet game and cex will have tons of copies from trade ins in the few weeks coming

After Ni No Kuni hitting #1 one week and being off the list altogether two weeks later, I wonder where Crysis and MG will be next week and the weeks after.

DmC just dropped out of sight, huh?

Yeah, it officially dropped off the recognized list this week, but really its relevance faded after the second or third week.

I'm glad to see Revengeance is doing well (so far). A niche genre spinoff finishing just barely behind a big name shooter threequel is pretty good. Hopefully it can have a little better momentum than DmC did though.

Anyone know the official numbers for what MGR sold?

So does it mean that action games genre is not as dead as we suppose... Or is that the sales are just people rushing to buy a new game on the shelves (In rising's case)...?

even more awesome considering that MGR was just Platinum trying to save a botched project for Konami

One more reason why MGR should have been on the PC, would have been #1. Anyways crazy to see Hitman: Absolution still in the top 10, good hold, wonder how much that game has sold so far.

Means nothing without a comparison to Crysis 2. Anyhow, Aliens still has the biggest first week sales, so that should tell you about the relative performance.

I hope the actual numbers are good. I want rising to succeed for a variety of reasons, especially to prove people who think DmC sales show that the action game is dying that they are wrong.

Im going to be honest.

From what I can see Konami put alot more marketing money behind rising than Capcom did with DmC, least in the weeks up to launch.

That said, the actual game itself was developed in under a year and is being already heralded by some as a worthy addition to the holy trinity (DMC, NG, Bayonetta) Making it a quadruple. So even if it doesn't hit konami's internal targets, it still should be seen as a massive success.

there are very few games that change devs that turn out good. Platinum should be give the proper funds and time to make a worthy sequel. (if they care to that is)

Only issue with the PC Version would be the control cutting in blade mode, it would be almost impossible to get that mechanic to work on a keyboard. A controller is basically required, which most PC gamers have.

Aliens selling too much, what a shitstain.

It's great that MGR almost beat a AAA game released on more platforms and I hope it's got legs unlike DmC.

Honestly though, Capcom's marketing for the DMC franchise has always been fairly nonexistent.

Sword vs Bow?

Bow wins.

It took three bows to barely beat two swords (PS3/360/PC vs PS3/360)

I'd still really like to know the raw numbers for MGR's sales. I want to compare them heads up versus DmC

My opinion of Rising only, uh, rises the more I play it. The first time through, it was 8/10, pretty damn good, considering the dev time. But the more I learned about the game's mechanics, the more I got a hang of the various enemies and bosses, the weapons and unlockables...let's just say it's gonna take a real mothafucker of a game to top it when GotY voting comes around. I've put 50 hours into it, finally wrapped up the Platinum trophy today, and I can't wait for more DLC. The terribad camera is the only thing keeping it from Bayo/NGB level in my mind, but it's a fantastic action game in any other regard.

And if there's a better, crazier final boss all year, I'd be shocked.

Well, the game is releasing in a pretty good time of the year and has a strong brand associated with it. It helps that it's a really fucking good game, but I don't know how this would have turned out if it was an original Platinum IP coming out in a more packed month.

But I hope I'm just crazy and MGR ushers in a new era of amazing character action games.

Sweet mercy you got the Lightning God achievement? Tell me your secrets!

Oh god this, action games should avoid cramped corridors for a reason

I'd replace DMC3 before I replace Bayo

NGB > all, though

If it's "just" 5500 copies separating them then that would suggest decent numbers for both. Better than some other recent high profile releases such as DmC anyway.

Honestly though, Capcom's marketing for the DMC franchise has always been fairly nonexistent.

DMC4 had a greater marketing push than DmC. For the latter's case, Capcom took in their losses for DmC and pulled their post launch marketing plans. So it was pretty much sent out quietly.

This is why ya always make a PC port. ;)

Crysis started life as a PC franchise. Not only that, THE game to get to see if you had a beastly enough rig (hense the "Does it run Crysis" meme)

To be honest, the separation only being 5k units is actually crazy when you think about it, PC version or no PC version.

I bet the commcercial for Crysis is helping a lot. It's perfect for 12-18 year olds. A 'badass' looking dude shooting things on catchy music.

It is pretty damn sad to see that neither game could reach ACM's first week sales.

That brand power.

Even my Dad had heard of Rising when it arrived at the door. Konami is doing some decent marketing for once, it seems.

hahaha

Bit of a shame, might be the last DmC game for a long time if ever

I highly doubt Capcom's going to "Onimusha" the DMC franchise. I'm giving Capcom the benefit of the doubt that they understand why DmC tanked especially after DMC4's pretty good numbers.

Did it? I honestly never remember seeing ads for it or anything. In fact the last ad for a DMC game I ever remember seeing was the original US add for DMC1 with the guy in the red bathrobe messing up his living room.

I miss the days of commercials like that.

God Hand is in its own tier...there isn't anything that even comes close to it. Possibly Anarchy reigns and ironically, a very unrated title named Urban reign on the PS2.

I weep for the beat em' up Genre. It needs more love from devs.

If they didn't understand why it wasn't necessary in the first place, I doubt they understand why it failed.

They probably think its our fault. Or at least we know some journalists do.
