network error, ughhh

god dammit, the online stuff is actually great but your own single player regions shouldn't have to be part of the always online crap, this sucks

Back home if anyone signed up for Discovery Delta 2 still needs an invite. 7 out of the 14 people signed up so an update would be appreciated. We need you :D

Had 8 but fluffy abandoned his self-declared hellhole. You coming back to restart it?

Edit: Having an issue right now where I have a lot of buildings say "I miss going to school" What's happening? Plenty of bus stops and the schools remain active but still plenty of room. Not sure what to do.

I need mine too please !

I'm installing the game now so I'll need an invite sooner or later.

my city started to load...then it cut back to the main menu to tell me it couldn't and that I couldn't connect to the server

how can companies manage relatively smooth mmorpg launches despite the online issues being more complex yet ea fucks this up so badly

haha what the fuck EA. Now I can't even click the "Play" button in origin.

Watch it, in an hour you won't even be able to start origin anymore. Then Windows. then the door to your apartment won't open anymore.

Yeah it is weird. I really want to buy this even though people are complaining. Hopefully my willpower stays strong until the server issue is fixed.

Wait it out. I love the game but if I was having the issues everyone else was I'd be pissed. I'm so lucky server load is low when I can actually play the game.

wondering why my money was so low. noticed all the parks i added for no reason. losing $4K on it at the moment. time to turn off half of it lol.

Holy shit I'm like, looking at my city! And I can...do stuff to it!

This must be a dream.

Is that real life?

The amount of time I have spent trying to get on has been unbelievable, it stretches past 5-6 hours. The time I have spent actually playing today......3 minutes.

This is the worst I have ever felt about ANYTHING I own.

Same here. Was going to buy yesterday but waiting it out until I hear issues are fixed. This is quite unlike me to wait though...

I'm sure I just lost a ton of progress. Servers were down as I was playing and I had to get off. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't able to synch up for over an hour. My city is still doomed. Living on a slow but steady dwindling oil supply. I'm refining much of it into fuel so at least I'm making the most out of it but I can see the day when it drys up and my city falls into economic collapse. If only the citizens could see what I can see, I wouldn't have an 80%+ approval rating.

I understand the EA servers suck but I think Maxis made a awesome game its sad to see people bomb the game so hard.

Ill just play the game when I can.

You need to have a road close to the coast line. Then just place it right on the edge

Ferry and trade port terminal are SUCH a pain to put down though. it's impossible to predict where the road needs to be.

How come I only hear people complain about this game and yet I still want to play it so much?

Because it's Sim City. I hate always-on DRM, don't like EA (though Origin is okay), but I bought it anyway. Because it's Sim City. There are so few large-scale simulations, RTSs and TBSs around these days that I'm gonna jump on 'em first day due to sheer hunger for the genres.

The servers are so fucked right now... even if you can log in, it often won't let you join a region or create a new one.

I created a region and it welcomed me as ~mayornamehere~ and then, no matter what I did, the city never got saved... meaning it was basically a phantom play session.

I probably spent 20 min and $50k of resources building/destroying roads trying to figure out the sweet spot. No idea what I am doing wrong.

I was very lucky with the trade port... it snapped immediately.

Further clarification about my education problem and people having trouble getting to school, no clue what is happening. Still have lots of people going but my skilled worker rate is dropping dramatically and factories built to support it are are closing down (but coming back as the same skilled worker needing type) What am I doing wrong? So befuddled.

Bump, will say I just had my worst moment yet. Bulldozed my dumps to clear up room, set it to high speed and went and made a sandwich. I had forgotten to re-build the dumps and a bunch of people moved out :/

I joined a buddy of mine's region and selected a spot of land to build in and it kept rejecting me from claiming it. When I finally was able to claim it, I started building and quit. When I tried to go back in and resume it kept saying I didn't have a city existing there and the land was still available, yet when I clicked on it to start again it said it was taken. About an hour later my city finally pops up in his region and I'm able to play.

The problem I'm having now is that I cannot name my city. Every time I change the name it reverts it back to it's default name "Settler's Run" a few seconds after I rename it. Annoying.

tomorrow won't get any better if UK players plan to pick up the title. they'll overflow back to NA if EU servers are shit. then there's another midnight tomorrow as well right? lol. shit will carry over well over the weekend. just have this week to do maintenance and server upgrade plz.

Yeah there is no reason to blame Maxis on the issues, they made a great game. All the hate should go towards EA and their horrible server debacle. Hope whatever EA is currently doing with the server maintenance will result in something positive.

I know the ferry terminal can be plopped without a road connection, and I'm pretty sure it's the same for the port terminal.

Right now I'm putting the blame on both Maxis and EA and that's only because the communication from both parties has been terrible. After trying to find some solid information, the most recent thing I found is from @derricks who is the "Online Lead" from 2 hours ago "We're still looking into it. Different environments are seeing different issues."

I had the same issue with my airport. I had planned out an area just for it so that it would have plenty of room. When time came to place it I couldnt get it to plop there. Bulldozed another area and it wouldnt go there either. The only place that it would go is in thr middle of my city. I put it down once and realized a road was blocking expansions so I bulldozed it and fixed it. Only to find out that I couldnt place another runway because the ground became too steep. Got the depots and terminals though. Wasted like 250k after everything.

Well the Origin issues got sorted out relatively fast. The server issues right now are Maxis' responsibility.

One thing I've been curious about since seeing the GB quicklook is resource depletion. For example, what happens when your city (and ultimately your entire region), runs out of water? Does it just add a negative modifier like unhappiness or does it act as a sort of time limit on how long your city can survive? Do the water tables regenerate in any way that allows you to create sustainable consumption or is it just a inevitability that you cannot avoid?

Not sure what the best balance of realism and fun I'd prefer is. I like the idea of limited resources and making strategic decisions on how to best use them, but realistically, running out of water should be a city ending disaster, not just a negative modifier on some meters. Unlimited water isn't appealing either, so I'm not sure if there's any way to split the difference that would satisfy me.

I think it is EA who is doing the server side stuff. I could be wrong though. Anyways whatever is going on behind the scenes hopefully is going to get things running smoothly.

Has anyone started the Titan's Canyon 2 region yet? I'm having serious issues trying to connect to any server. I haven't even got to play the tutorial yet, so hold a spot for me and send an invite if the region has already started...
