NPD Sales Results for February 2013 [Up5: Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Official PS3/WiiU]

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
65k or so is still a terrible, terrible number.

The only somewhat kind of positive news I can say is that it would seem to forestall a complete doomsday March/April #'s getting into the 30-40K range which is a lot worse than terrible.

Gamasutra.
3DS did 145K last month, in my estimation. Given that it rose on a weekly basis, that's a minimum of 116K in February.

But it also crossed 8 million, and that would require 140K by my records.

So minimum of 140K for 3DS, but given Nintendo's history of statements like "over 8 million", I wouldn't be surprised if it were a bit higher, like 160K or more.

Perhaps more can be said later.

64 - 80k is still twice or three times what some gaffers expected . Take a look at the predictions thread.

Lowered expectations maybe but after 57k in jan , I was thinking 25-35 k might happen with no new games released.
The GAF Agg is 69K.

160K would still leave 231K for the NDS and Wii, seems somewhat high for the latter?

I bet Wii (not Wii U) still sold over 100k still if ecosystem total is 425k.

Edit: I don't know what last month's sales were so I might be completely wrong.

So does anyone else think FE's digital sales means NoA will under ship every niche game from now on?
I have no doubt they'd continue to do this whether FE sold well digitally or not.
Just look at all of the $100 copies of Xenoblade Chronicles out there.

Iwata must be ecstatic. He wanted a system with very low power draw because you know that's what gamers care about. Not only did he achieve his goal but with the numbers wiiu is pulling the overall environmental impact is tiny. Huge success, give yourself a pat on the back.
Nintendo saving the planet one Wii U at a time.

So uhh, I have Nintendo hardware "ecosystem" at >50% stronger in Feb over Jan on a weekly basis?

Thats pretty massive. The X360 went up 34%.

"Xbox 360 - 302K - 41% of current-gen console sales"
http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsof...nsole-in-the-u-s-for-26th-straight-month.aspx

"Current-gen console sales" = 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U
(I'm assuming this doesn't refer to handhelds)

So:

~736.6K - 360 + PS3 + Wii + Wii U

~434.6K - PS3 + Wii + Wii U

"~65K - Wii U"
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/14/dead-space-3-leads-us-sales-in-february

So:

~369.6K - PS3 + Wii

So if the Wii sold 100k, the PS3 is still at 270k? That's pretty damn good.

...Nintendo ecosystem?

Oh the thought of how much more FE:A could have sold without the stock problems but the digital sales are amusing to see.

Shadow Dragon sold 250k in the US? And still Nintendo passed on the second DS game? Wtf? I've been under the impression that SD also flopped financially, but it actually reached numbers most other Japanese games of its kind would be glad to achieve.
No shit. I'm reasonably sure 250k is more than pretty much every Japanese SRPG except possibly FFTA2 sold last gen.

Anyway, hopefully Awakening's excellent sales encourages some confidence for 3rd party 3DS localizations. I need more Bravely Default and Dragon Quest VII in my lige.

That's not really a similar situation and doing so would just lose them potential money so its not going to happen.

Serves Microsoft right for not having an ecosystem.
Granted, if they did lump Surface and WP8 sales into their monthly number, you'd wind up with a number lower than 34% month-over-month growth.

I am so very pleased with Fire Emblem. It seems like it's going to be a trivial matter to come within spitting distance of Japanese LTD when it's all said and done. I hope it nets a similar reception in Europe.

So I guess all the returns did skew last month's Wii U numbers.

No way it goes up (by even a measly 10k) during this month. There were literally NO games released for it in February.

So par for the course for NoA?

NoA is stupid in other ways. They're actually pretty good at getting product shipment numbers just right; hence why you rarely see Nintendo games going down in price. Nintendo overguessing (Shadow Dragon, Elite Beat Agents, Fortune Street) and underguessing (Awakening) shipments doesn't happen very often.

The moral of the story is that NoA has no idea how to tell which Fire Emblems will be popular and which won't. Actually its usually the really hardcore or really casual games they have the most trouble with lol.

Krillin? More like that farmer with a shotgun character.
It has to be Krillin. That way the prophecy of the fabled Destructo Disc (Pikmin 3) failing will come true. It's like that initial high you get in DBZ, and you think shit is now about to get real, but obviously it's Krillin throwing it, so the destructo disc accomplishes nothing.

Great numbers for Fire Emblem.
And it was even undershipped.

Funny how Awakening will probably cross the million mark worldwide when it's all said and done.

This is the most shocking thing.
Jeeze NoA.

Hmm, with all the comment on Wii U. Vita seems neglected.

How long can it piddle along at 35K a month before retailers stop bothering to carry it?

Makes me sad that Nintendo drastically undershipped Fire Emblem. Game deserves to sell way more.

I wonder how many of the limited edition 3DSes they shipped. Presumably all of those sold, too.

So happy for Sly. Haven't played it yet, but I have heard great things. Gotta whittle my backlog down a bit though before I get it.

So that WiiU number is better, but is it at least considered decent now? Or is that number still terribad?

It's cheap.
Rednecks like to have that Nintendo box for the Netflix, Mario Kart, Wii Sports Bowling and Just Dance 4.
Only requires standard definition so it still looks good on their CRT televisions in their trailers.
Wal-Mart.

Plenty of good reasons.

Dear god the profit they must be making on the Wii and DS right now. They can't cost much to make, and to still sell them for about $100. They could sell maybe 10,000 units a month and still bank on both. That's so bad for the WiiU right now.

I don't know why, but the hype was with this Fire Emblem for some reason. And the word of mouth helped it a lot, along with the demo.

actual sales out the door (that is, people putting down cash and walking out with systems) went down by 20%, even in the best case estimate, didn't it?

there just wasn't the massive amount of returns dragging sales numbers down further.

I think it had more to do with the game coming out in the second half of 2010 in Japan.
