Does Iwata ever look at the monthly NPD charts and think why none of those games are on the Wii U? Can't be healthy to continue on like this.
You're kidding, right. Iwata's probably crying into a beer as we speak (even though it's like 10 am in Japan right now).

Well, Brain Age is officially dead.
It should have been a $9.99 downloadable title. I don't know what Nintendo is thinking, but evidently it's a terrible strategy. They also charged $29.99 at retail for a vanilla crossword game, which wouldn't have been acceptable in 2005, let alone in a climate where iOS devices are dominating the marketplace.

eo4 actually did well. smaller companies like nisa, xseed, and atlus usually get 24k games sold to retailers at first, so selling that many to customers isn't that bad (atelier meruru did 5k its first month and that was okay). actually, what ngs2p did is more what a small company might expect. for tecmo-koei, it's more of a bomb.

Really want to see how 3DS did. It had a good month in terms of games.

Also yeah, Brain Age = Brain Dead. I bought the 3DS title but I think it's momentum has long gone.

66k does not seem.....good.

We can figure out PS3 numbers from this now, right?

Need Wii numbers first.

"Xbox 360 - 302K - 41% of current-gen console sales"
http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsof...nsole-in-the-u-s-for-26th-straight-month.aspx

"Current-gen console sales" = 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U
(I'm assuming this doesn't refer to handhelds)

So:

~736.6K - 360 + PS3 + Wii + Wii U

~434.6K - PS3 + Wii + Wii U

"~65K - Wii U"
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/14/dead-space-3-leads-us-sales-in-february

So:

~369.6K - PS3 + Wii

Alright so that's not terrible. At least not as a standalone number, but when you take into account future prospects and upcoming releases, that's not the hottest of momentums. Expected I guess.
64k is horrible. For comparison, the Wii sold 335k in February 2007.

Game & Wario is coming out at the end of the month in Japan, so that's clearly finished.

Wii Fit U, Pikmin, and The Wonderful 101 (all games they've been showing since last year) are probably close, too. There's no reason they couldn't start marketing and announce projected dates for those games.

Wii U ~ 66k, ZombiU bundle ~ 11%

When was the bundle available to consumers?

Yea, I thought that would be good for such a niche game. How did previous EO games and games similar to it do?

This doesn't surprise me at all. Sonic games always sell well on Nintendo platforms. Sonic Colors for Wii sold significantly more units than every Sonic Generations SKU combined. Nintendo should stop being coy and just buy the IP already.

Even $9.99 is crazy for Brain Age in a post iOS world.

I have absolutely no sympathy for Nintendo in regards to the Wii U bombing at retail. I had a fun time with NSMBU and Nintendoland, but the fact that there hasn't been any significant releases 4 months after launch is just plain laughable. (Also fuck you Nintendo and your deceptive "launch window" bullshit by lying in our faces and saying games like Pikmin 3 and W101 should be out by now)

I'm expecting sometime down the road another embarrassing apology from Nintendo to their early adopters. While I cut them some slack on the 3DS, the fact that this is the 2nd time it has happened to them recently along with the fact that they had several years of blank release schedules to prepare a decent console library goes to show how much of a complete fuck up this system launch was. If they don't get their shit together for a mind blowing fall line up, then they can shut up and take their 3rd place trophy for next gen, because if this is all they can muster up then they more than deserve it. /rant of salty early adopter

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I like my sugar with NPD and cream.

Forgot about the ZombiU bundle hitting your shores. I mean... 11% is still something. Which gives cause for concern on how bad March can get?

Gamasutra.
Need Wii numbers first.
Here's what's known.

Xbox 360 = 302K i.e. 41% of all four systems listed here
PS3 = ???
Wii U = 66K
Wii = ???

Also, all systems are up on a weekly basis from January. In my estimation, that means Wii > 80K and PS3 > 160K.

There is also the total hardware sales (ALL systems) of $244.2mm...

Probably isn't going to be worse seeing how games for the thing actually come out this month. Not games that ought to push the numbers way beyond 100k, mind.

An all-time Atlus bestseller is, what, ~500k? That's what Disgaea and Demon's Souls did, and I don't think anyone would scoff at those sales at all. And given that it has a cheap localization with the whole "no VA" thing and that's an Atlus-owned IP, I imagine that it's doing pretty OK for them for how few days it had in the reporting period.
