Darkstalkers Resurrection |OT| aaaAAAaaa!!! Real monsters!

It's just dumb to me that they didn't use any of the MULTIPLE versions of the game that contain the full roster. Don't care if they were going for arcade perfection. Next to nobody plays the arcade version anymore. :p

The Saturn and Playstation versions of Vampire Savior, Vampire Chronicle on DC and PSP (which not only has the full roster, but selectable play styles based on Vampire, Hunter, Savior, and Savior 2), and the PS2 Vampire Collection all have versions of Savior with Donovan, Huitzil, and Pyron added.

Would have been nice to have had Vampire Savior with everyone, plus Dee. I think if they had released this game with Savior, Savior 2, and Hunter 2 it would have been confusing.

There would have been massive bitching over the slightest bit of imperfection, and many of those unified versions had the limitations of ancient consoles.

I do think the 2f input lag will end up a bigger issue, and I would have sacrified some aracde perfection to avoid input lag.

I'm glad Judderman appreciates the true king of VSav.

I like fish. It would take some practice to implement his charge moves properly, but those 2 frame link dash links....mannnn

Welcome to my nightmare. I still can't consistently hit that Dashing MP into LP. So frustrating.

Is that what it is? No wonder something felt "off" when I played online. I regret double-dipping on this now. :\

Most of the people I play with haven't noticed this "within 2 frame" lag, it's quite solid.

By including VS2, VH2 there would be a rift and even less populace online because of that. I did expect Iron Galaxy to base VS on the Saturn port, ie. with the 3 characters added. But they took the CPS2 rom of VS and hacked playable Oboro in. I grew to like it this way though, its the mostly unaltered coin op after all. And Nightwarriors still has good reasons to revert back to as well.

Problem is no one plays Nightwarriors.

I love Dimitiri's Midnight Pleasure. Only move that makes playing him fun

wtf is wrong with this game. Played four in a row, and they all resulted in disconnects mid match. I earned a 4 streak for shit.

The streak system seems fucked. I had a 5 game win streak and it would keep resetting my streak to 1 or 2.

This game just makes me miss sprites all the more.

KoF13 cemented it, but there's just something off (for me) when it comes to Capcom's 2.5D offerings. Marvel comes close, but it's still not as crisp and accurate as sprites feel.

Profound sadness.

They cost 6000 million dollars per character to make. Capcom can't afford sprites anymore. 10 more years of sfiv style assets!

Third Strike had the 2 frames of lag too, right? Must be somewhere in the emulation.

Does it on both consoles?

I was playing on ps3 the other night with some friends and on that I could notice, but mostly with parry timing. It just felt a bit off.

Holy shit, doing dash cancels with Fish in Hunter is ridiculously hard.

I like how MvC3 turned out aesthetically, barring the usual problems with visibility in certain stages that too many modern fighters seem to have. I particularly like how characters always maintain eye contact with each other. (Pick opposing characters with significantly different heights and walk back and forth a little bit or make one of them crouch.) Shadows and lighting effects in general are probably easier to implement across the board. 3D does have its perks here and there.

Yeah, Darkstalkers would probably be hard to do justice with 3D models. That article that goes over the series' animation in depth is a great read. It's hard to notice a lot of that nuance in game though since the game is so fast, and especially when everybody plays in turbo mode and frames are literally being skipped all over the place.

Yeah I am not bothering with his challenges. I just can't consistently get the dash cancel timing off during them and it just gets frustrating. (I'm also a noob)

Turbo mode really makes this game really ugly to watch. It's interesting to see this game and how things have evolved in the "anime"-style genre into things like BB and MvC.

The issues present with the animation trying to do "too much in too little time" are present in Skullgirls as well, and are a good cautionary tale for future developers.

Played NW for the first time ever a few seconds ago, definitely going to have to get used to it, everything's slower. Also, being able to hit guys on the ground is something I do on reflex, so I end up jumping straight into the air completely wasting an opportunity to get in a better position.

I love the thread title, the nuance, and how perfectly it works. Who thought of it?

Nyoro SF thought up the original title of "Aaahh! Real monsters!" in the FGWeekly thread, and I suggested changing the "Aaahh" to "aaaAAAaaa"

I love the title.

What do I do against a good Q-bee? What do I doooo?

Bait her airdashes and abuse her lack of defensive options.

I would love if they went back to sprites if they made DS4. Just the attention to detail in the sprites for this series is incredible and would look great if they up-rez'd it KOFXIII style. The series would lose some of it's flavor if they went to MvC3 styled models.

Got the game a few hours ago and played some ranked/player matches. I love the sense of speed. Everything about this port feels just right. Normal(not turbo) speed is horrible as it has always been. Turbo is just right. I hate the DS3's triggers when it comes to this particular game, though. It turns out that the R2 trigger makes it very easy to flub the roundhouse input in Tenrai-Ha. That problem didn't exist with the DS2's R2 being a straight up button.

Iron Galaxy almost outdid themselves with this port.
Aesthetically, Darkstalkers is THE best fighting game franchise.
Easily, which is amazing since it's getting close to being 20 years old as a franchise.
Indeed

Up in my top three for quality and aesthetics. It's a game and series that endures the ravages of time like a tiny star. It'll still be shining even when the giants collapse.
Yes, absolutely. You need to know them, have a feel for them, know their distances, and be able to read their animations to know when to meatie them.

The meta for me went: I keep missing roll timings and people keep up-backing up wake up, let me learn perfect meaties -> oh people are 1 hit tech hitting me now when i perfect meatie them, let me learn to do a slightly delayed attack to catch their button presses.

Forcing your opponents into that situation on every knockdown will win you many many matches.

Of course, when I am playing Zabel, I need to be able to do this so I can get unblockables over and over. That character more than any requires you to be completely familiar with wake up timings and distances.

At the top level, they are absolutely aware of the minute details. A lot of it just looks so free-flowing because you are timing a lot of things with an internal timer. There is not many frame specific set ups, though they do exist and some are good, the best options and strongest options usually require you to just know the timings naturally.
Cool

I think my pressure on wakeup could improve tremendously. It's one of my weakpoints and I've never dug deep into the minutia of many fighters. The most detailed thing I know is Lei Lei's crouching short being pretty fast. Everything else is just me winging it half the time based on experience. The bolded reminds me very much of all the suffering I had to experience on GGPO to even become mediocre lol.
I'm glad Judderman appreciates the true king of VSav.
That's a funny way of spelling "Queen" and that ain't Lei Lei.
What do I do against a good Q-bee? What do I doooo?
Depends

Who do you play? The general gameplan is to stay on top of her and not let her IAD you by using your best close range pokes/AAs.

One of my favorite animations is Lei Lei's standing jab. She wears a bead bracelet on her right hand that you can see whenever she stabs you with her knife. She stabs like a tiny prison inmate. :>

Oh, I love both SF4 and MvC3 aesthetically. I think they're gorgeous games.

I'm just talking feels. MvC is hella close, I think, to how sprites feel, but SxT and SF4 both feel totally off. Lots of things that I've never quite been able to describe, but just know it feels off to me.

Any Demitri players know how to cancel a whiffed normal into midnight bliss?

Also how do you properly do 360 motions? I've never used a grappler and Demitri is the first character I've ever used that has a 360 degree command throw.

Bliss? I think you just do a crouching jab or short and do the command. I used Midnight Pleasure more often than Bliss when I mained Demitri.

You can just go from forward counter-clockwise to upback and the game considers that a 360. Makes it easier.

Scrub question: Is Hsien-ko kind of bad in Hunter and Savior, or am I just a scrub of monstrous proportions?

Most recent Hunter tier list:

S: Rikuo, Bishamon, Pyron, Talbain, Sasquatch
A: Morrigan, Huitzil, Anakaris, Raptor
C: Demitri, Felicia
D: Hsien-Ko, Donovan, Victor

In Savior she's better, it's just kinda hard to use her at her full potential. Try building meter with her zoning tools then go in and try to hit Tenraiha. You can employ some mixups while the balls are still active.

Get out of my head dammit. I spent a weird amount of time admiring different animations while playing Vsav the brief few times I did and Lei's jab was just so hypnotic for all of the details put into something as fast to see as that.

Definitely going to buy this when I get the chance. I bought a 1500 MS Point card last week on sale from newegg just for this.

Also, I LOVE Bengus's artwork (and Akiman).

What is the tier list for Savior anyway? I always assumed Demitri was low tier.

Anyone wanna play in the next 10min? PSN: onem1c

Top tier
Lord Raptor
Sasquatch

High tier
Jon Talbain
Q. Bee
B.B. Hood

Mid tier
Felicia
Rikuo
Lei Lei
Bishamon
Demitri

Low tier
Morrigan
Lilith
Jedah
Victor

Bottom tier
Anakaris

If you ask me. Lei Lei is dead in the middle and she gets wrecked by anyone above her if you don't know what you are doing. This is especially true for characters that go in for the overhead which she doesn't respond well to. Anak and Victor really have it the hardest. I like Morrigan and Lilith over Jedah. They absolutely destroy in the hands of great Japanese players and regularly make it to top 8s, 4s(etc.) despite being low tier.

Gotta watch for guard cancels even when the balls keep someone in blockstun. Best thing you can do is mix them up and catch them with an actual TRH. That is where the real game begins. The secret to that is knowing one hit TRH, TRH off crouching light kick, standard TRH, TRH off crouching heavy kick for an AA straight into TRH and the king... TRH off a blocked crouching heaving punch.

Everything was spiked balls.

I been playing Vsav pretty frequently with a friend from Europe over the past two days, and I'm amazed how well the GGPO netcode was implemented in this game. IG took feedback from 3SOE and applied it to this port. It's so much better for it. I'd say it's one of, if not, the best examples of a great fighting game netcode for that kind of overseas connection. We tried a bunch of stuff earlier today like this, Skullgirls, and Marvel yet DSR faired far better with a delay of 2. There are certainly some very small issues happening that ranges on each end, but it seems to be masked so well that I rarely notice it. Great job on Iron Galaxy's part!

So glad that I get to experience this game in a nice package. The speed and jump arcs are so good! Felicia is the main character I'm using and enjoying, but I started dabbling with Demitri today. I like that he's pretty solid and has some different mobility compared to Felicia. I got down to Tutorial #5 and spent a good 30 minutes trying to nail that first combat set. It was so satisfying when I nailed the timing! The combo following it was pretty daunting since I couldn't seem to nail connecting a Fierce into an ES Chaos Flare after a Bat Spin, but finishing the first set was enough for me.

I really love that feeling of getting addicted to a "new" fighting game. I just want to play more!

Damn I'm free at this game but its still fun being bodied. Your pretty good at zoning me out, I felt like I had to put so much work just to get to the other side, and then somehow putting myself in the corner. Midnight pleasure is scary as hell, I think your the first Demitri that I have played who used it (and well, I think I got hit everytime).

ggs man

Ya Ive mainly been working on cancelling into midnight pleasure during training mode, I love that move. From what I get Demitri's offense mainly consists of getting a knockdown then a mixup through one of command throws, mainly midnight pleasure. And when he's not doing that he's building meter by zoning and dp'ing like crazy. I still can't get it consistent though.

I hear you just have to learn Talbain's ES beast cannon, and air cannon combos, and you'll be set pretty much.

The Japanese site got updated with bios of Dark Talbain, Oboro Bishamon and Shadow. (It's really too bad that they didn't get any new artwork, those characters especially are in need of some. They have practically zero official portraits.)

Their placement on the site, plus the giant empty space on the Character Move List menu in-game are leading me to believe even more that the arrange characters will be coming eventually to Darkstalkers 3.

I'm loooooooving Q-Bee so far. Usually when I pick a new fighting game I ran through all of the characters' challenges, try all their moves in tutorial mode, and then make a decision.

Here I just tried her once and instantly clicked with me <3

Also, as a newcomer I can't unsee this guy everytime the Rikuo splash screen comes up lol.
