@mossmouth @lordsleepyhead personally, i don't have an opinion on the design, because i haven't played it.
Incredible!Dont know if this has been posted.. xD
Holy shit.
His entire argument boils down to "Maxis said that online is important, people who disagree have an agenda, I haven't played it or seen the arguments against multiplayer being important, therefore Maxis is correct by default."
Unbelievable. I RT'd him, and said it was incredible, and he replied. He actually doesn't get it.
my comments are in light of a rabid group of people using every excuse to rave against a business model.
i'm not going to speak to whether that works, or is fun, or if it fucked somebody's mom.
OH SHITthis is organized bullying against anyone who deigns to not toe a line about what this group demands simcity be.

@akwinters and bluntly, i have zero patience for it. play it. don't play it. i don't care.

Holy shit, he broke. His mind has broken.
People finding fault in a video game and calling out a public figure for inaccurate, sweeping, and caustic insults is now "organized bullying" against poor journalists and a multibillion dollar corporation.
If only someone would defend these poor rebels who enjoy Maxis's brave SimCity-refining choice to have a more advanced version of a ten year old SimCity mechanic but with online-only access.
"My sources pointed to [...]"I don't know why anyone is surprised by his idiotic comments on Twitter. He's done the same shit here.

FYI - he still hasn't paid up the $10.

Polygon is part of The Verge, isn't it? I wonder if the higher ups there are concerned at all about damage to their org's credibility.
Wow. This game just keeps on giving.

I maybe using this too much
The are there to make money, that is all. The Verge isn't some paragon integrity.
I don't even understand what's going on. Candidly admitting "I guess I was wrong about that!" would be so much easier than all of this twitter drama.
And Polygon isn't part of The Verge, so...
wikipedia said:The Washington, D.C.-based company has raised about $40 million in total funding. The Series A having been led by Accel Partners in 2008, Series B by Comcast Interactive Capital in 2009, Series C by Khosla Ventures in 2010, and all three participating for Series D in 2012. Other funders are Allen & Company, Providence Equity Partners, and various angel investors, including Ted Leonsis, Dan Rosensweig, Jeff Weiner, and Brent Jones. The funding will be used to facilitate the site’s growth, fueling acquisitions and driving sales.[3][8][9] According to sources, the latest round, in May 2012, valued Vox at $140 million.[10]
I can't remember the last time I've seen a game blow up so spectacularly at launch. This is just incredible.
As funny as this game is, it still won't touch Daikatana. That game destroyed two good developers (Ion Storm, Looking Glass), turned John Romero into a laughing stock, and nearly cratered Eidos who are just now recovering.
Doesn't change the fact they are both highly commercialized, click driven sites.
edit: Polygon and Verge are owned by Vox, whose funding came from:
They are there to make money, that is all. The verge isn't some paragon of integrity.
I'm not really sure what your point is.
You said that Polygon and The Verge weren't part of the same company. Untalkative_Bunny corrected you.
It would be cool if they could do a rerelease: give the game another year in the oven, fix the AI, remove the DRM, maybe find a way to allow larger cities, and then put it out under a new name. And give everyone who bought this a free upgrade to the fixed version, like Stardock did with Elemental.
Simcity 4 is better than both. Much more customizable as well.
In other news, Arthur Gies apparently doesn't know how to use the word "deign".Arthur Gies ‏@aegies

has there been another gaming journalist in the history of post-twitter gaming journalism who has so vehemently rejected reality?
