But as ever, gameplay is king and in that respect for fans of survival horror Revelations is already a better HD prospect than the fifth and sixth games. The twin-stick gameplay - only an option on 3DS if you bought the Circle Pad Pro - suits the game perfectly, and the chapter we played felt just as atmospheric and masterfully paced as when we first experienced it on handheld.
The addictive Raid Mode, a sort of Mercenaries alternative that sees players either going it solo or playing online-co-op as they gun down waves of enemies while levelling up and earning weapons upgrades, is still a treat, and the promise of new characters (including fan favourite Hunk) is a welcome one.

What it essentially boils down to is this - the 3DS version of Resident Evil Revelations is one of the handheld's finest games and successfully captures the mood and feel of the series' golden age. Dodgy textures and lack of 3D effect aside, assuming the main adventure remains exactly the same on HD consoles, this is set to be one of the best Resident Evil console titles in years.

Revelations is fantastic. From another thread:

I love Revelations AND RE6. Both very different games, though. I prefer Revelations, which is just more consistent from start to finish. Speaking strictly objectively, in terms of polish and pacing and atmosphere/immersion, RER is second only to RE4, and I may even prefer it in some respects. RE6 has the best combat mechanics, bar none, but the gunplay in RER is plenty solid. Raid drives home how addictive it can be, whittling down enemy health bars with bullets to the head, or tripping their legs, or disabling their arms so you can charge up a crowd-clearing melee attack.

The episodic framework was a great addition. Hearing the piano-and-percussion theme build up during "Last time on RER" and seeing the cliff-hanger ending, and then the (always fitting) Dante's Inferno quote was a great way to get me pumped for each chapter.

The back and forth between the various characters, locations and timelines was a great way to keep the game fresh. No slow bits or filler here. You get a cliff-hanger in one location, in one timeline, and then you're treated to another location, at another time, so that you're always driven to complete one storyline because you want to see what comes of the other. Brilliant, really.

I didn't find it to be too "action-heavy" by any means. You have a couple guns-blazing flashbacks to Terragrigia, but the enemies there make those encounters tense. Other bits are distinctly "rescue" or "escape" scenarios that I felt were pitch-perfect for their part of the plot. But most of the game is a slow dreadful crawl through the ship -- and it's wonderful. It's a huge, multi-faceted setting, lots of ornate rooms and halls, lots of grimy blood-soaked corridors and flickering lights, lots of settings from the bilge to the bridge. You have casinos, cafeterias, promenades, upper and lower cabins, an observation deck, and more fantastical locations onboard I won't spoil. The last level in Raid, "Ghost Ship," even gives you the freedom to explore the entirety of the ship, with multiple paths to the true ending.

The Ooze were great enemies, capable of appearing anywhere, falling through the ceiling or spilling out of vents or climbing out of the ground. Zoning them is important since they can absorb quite a few hits. They're not bullet-sponges, though: You can trip them, stagger them, disable their arms or flinch their heads. Then you have some great boss creatures and a number of BOWs I won't spoil, but I'll say one of them gives the Regenerator a run for its money. (Those who have played the game, I'm referring to
Scarmiglione, the sword-and-shield BOW that splits in two.
)

Best stoy. Best motif (maritime meets Dante's Inferno). Best soundtrack. Best end-game. Most cohensive setting and look. Most thoughtful modification of RE4-style play. Excellent pacing and variety.

People who haven't already played Revelations are in for a treat.

This is exactly how I feel about RE: Revelations. I can't speak on the price-to-content ratio (I paid 18 bucks for it on the 3DS XD), but, well, Raid Mode is awesome, the higher difficulties add a lot of tension (and random...randomness), and the vast majority of the game is a great melding of RE4-style gameplay with RE2-style tension and fright. I got sucked in big time.

It's leaps and bounds ahead of RE5/6. I know that's not saying a lot, but it is, hands down, the best RE game since RE4/REmake-era

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Regardless it's better than the 3DS version.
(Was that eye even in the game on any of the creatures?)

Nah, just a generic OOHOOHOH THIS IS A SCARY EYE IN THE WATER graphic.

I like this, though let's be honest how have the recent Resident Evil games been for box arts?

I agree though RE hasn't really excelled with box art, and this is definitely better than most I can recall off recent memory. Especially RE6.

I'm kind of skeptical that's the final box art, since this version of the game is subtitled "Unveiled Edition" and I don't see that on there.

Capcom Europe has revealed the, well, European box-art of Resident Evil Revelations for consoles and PC.

No word if the same design will be used for North American and Japanese versions.

Amazon UK preorder is still full price, obscene. I was hoping once the official art came out, we'd get a price correction.

EDIT: They haven't updated the art yet though, so who knows, finger's crossed.

Will stuff be unlocked for the MP modes? Not really feeling like playing through the game again since it was kinda mediocre, but wouldn't mind playing around with it again and the mp stuff was fun.

Oh, dual analog... ugh. So if they neglect to include Wii U pointer controls, I have no reason to pick it up. I would never go to dual analog over the smooth and precise gyro controls I used on the original game; that and the lack of 3D make it an unappealing port all around.

I never got round to picking this up on 3ds shall definitely be getting it on Wii u, not played a RE game since 4 on the wii, well looking forward to it

Outside of Rachel being confirmed a new playable character alongside HUNK for the HD version (maybe more to be announced), a new monster was confirmed to be in the HD version raid mode:

Erm, that's not a new monster. Isn't that
the final boss
?

I guess the color is a bit different than before.

I meant new monster for raid mode, but I will admit I worded it poorly.

Though I've been hearing been hearing on and off there's supposed to be one more monster who is a new addition, not sure if true though. Something they want to keep a surprise, if I read correctly and/or if it's true..

That monster was in Raid, though. Remember
Ghost Ship
?
