Why despair? Even if the current season doesn't appeal to you, that's just more time to watch past shows that may appeal to you! Or more time to do other things entirely.
This is a fair point I guess. Perhaps finally I'll get around to watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes or Utena or a half dozen other equally worthy series. Or far more likely, I'll get stuck playing another RPG.

Saying that, the plus point about this thread is you generally get a good cross-section of opinions on the new season so that if by a long shot something turns out to be good, it's quite easy to spot.

Sketchbook first though. That shit just cheers me to no end.

Stroheim saving the day. I never imagined rooting for the Nazis when I started watching this.

Sadly, it seems that episode twenty was but a blip in this show. :(

Gargantia - Episode 1-2

That was pretty much what I expected from the show from the trailers, so there's nothing really surprising here. It's a fun and light-hearted (sort of) show with a heavy adventure feeling (like Grandia and Xam'd I guess).

Red starts out as a child soldier on the frontlines of a deadly space battle where humanity makes their last stand against a mysterious alien threat, but when he accidentally falls out of a wormhole during the escape process he finds himself on an unknown planet which he later learns is Earth - the birthplace of humanity, long forgotten by his people. He finds himself in a culture he doesn't understand, with people speaking a different language, and a totally different way of life than what he's familiar with.

The way it is directed is pretty nice though, since it doesn't really rely too much on the actual misunderstandings and stuff to move the story forward. The characters aren't stupid or annoying, and there's a sense of strength and resolve in each of them, along with a good amount of levelheadedness and rational thinking. While the situation is pretty generic for the opening act of this sort of stories, the execution makes it as enjoyable as it can be.

I really like the way the colors look in the show, and the music and character animation do a great job of making the show feel fun and energetic. Even though it's probably Urobuchi's most light hearted and down to Earth story so far, there are definitely signs of an underlying bleakness in the story, especially in terms of how Red perceives the world being a soldier, and his value of human life contrasting against those of people who mostly live in a peaceful era.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how the rest of the series develops, but I think it's obvious that the arrival of Red and his robot is what unbalances the state of the world as it is, and will likely escalate tensions beyond what people are used to because of its overwhelming power. How this ties to the portion of humanity in space where Red came from, and the alien threat, will also be interesting aspects of the show.

This man is a fucking god.

Nepgear x Uni is the OTP. And a world filled with only the garden of yuri.

A man who truly knows whats important to otaku. He thinks what they think and feels what they feel. He can tell what brand of ramen they like and which waifu is on their dakimakura.
Most importantly, he protects the garden with pure intention.

I wholeheartedly disagr--

Dunno but I hope CFW Trick is heavily involved ... for reasons.
Actually, I'm just gonna back away slowly now.
I didn't despise CFW Trick as much as everyone else seemed to, but I don't have anything positive to say about him either.

btw 5pb x IF is the OTP.

unless they plan on silly adventures comedy during the whole anime , there must be a conflict somewhere planned . Did they reveal any potential antagonist from the games yet ?
If Arfoire isn't involved I will eat Blanc's hat. And I like Blanc's hat. 7 sages are unlikely given that the non-Neptune CPUs appear to be the modern variants, plus no sight of Yellow Heart yet. The dragon from the PV could be one of the dragon kings (Revenge of the Seven Dragons), but they'd collectively make shitty antagonists.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes - 29: A Narrow Thread

~ How bold of you to put the future of a nation on the table. ~

Lots of things happening in this episode! Interestingly, they again take place on different scales.
On the galactic scale, Phezzan is putting a series of influential decisions in motion to tilt the balance in favor of the Empire. The method seems to be to bring Yang into discredit and make him look like a dangerous force that may oppose the current political elite of the Alliance.
On the regional scale, Phezzan's Landesherr seems to answer to the High Bishop of the mysterious Earth Cult. He doesn't like it to, as he is reminded of the fanatical persecution of the Christians. I'm definitely on the Landesherr's side. A theocracy is to be avoided at all cost.
On the military scale, Premier Reinhard is going full speed on the Iserlohn plan. A bit too aggressively for Fräulein Hildegard's taste.
And lastly on the personal scale, Commodore Cazellnu has a serious discussion with Yang about his responsibility, both towards the Alliance and his soldiers at large, and Julian specifically. Pretty interesting to see the social pressure of Yang getting married, although he sees it irreconcilible with a military career. And then there's the matter of Julian's promotion, although it didn't really have any important consequences yet.

This is what happens when you watch so many episode of ugly Jojo in a row. It skews your perception of reality. :(

Episode was awesome, but not ep 20 tier. It still suffered from the same motion comic extreme close-up problems the entire show has been subject to.

As if eps 20 not give same effect too, Caesar roll once and we all freaking out "its actually animated!" lol

Its still abuse close up shot like every eps does, but this time with more detail and actual storyboard, like eps 25 does.

So as someone who hasn't started Jojo yet, but has plans to, is it worth waiting on blu-ray releases or is it worth jumping in right away?

Well the blu-rays are uncensored and are better looking that the TV episodes, I suggest waiting for all the blu-rays.

Gargantia - Episode 1-2

From reading your impressions and the seemingly big scope of the story, I don't know how they're going to pull it off with 12 episodes. It's so easy to fall into a rushed pace when you've so much stuff to potentially do and so little time.

There are art improvements for the BD releases so it may be worth waiting to watch them. If you don't mind waiting a lot that is.

I'm starting to think that one scene from Kotoura-san (you know the one) did more to damage GAF's view of anime as a whole than just about anything ever.

Seriously, that fucking scene, man.

I'm still not entirely sure why Trojita decided to make a thread about that show.

But that gif is pretty goddamn wtf.

More credits for the first volume of Ghost int the Shell Arise (Ghost Pain) showed up:

Director/Storyboard: Masahiko Murata
Animation Director/Sub-Character Design: Tetsuya Nishio
Ending Theme: salyu × salyu - "Jibun ga Inai"

Each volume of the BD/DVD will also come with a short 3DCG anime called "Logicoma Beat" similar to the Tachikoma shorts in GitS:SAC. The shorts will be directed by Eiji Inomoto from Orange, written by Tow Ubukata, and Cornelius will be providing the music.

One would really wait until Sept 27, 2013 (date of last BD release) to watch it, an anime that is ending on next weekend?

Thanks, everyone. I think I will indeed wait for the blu-rays. I'm relatively patient, so I don't think the wait should be too terrible.

6th best seller for LNs in japan + decent sales for blu rays

Things should be much much more entertaining for this arc rather than the first season.

Guys is Paranoia Agent a good anime to watch. People be saying its a bit crazy. It can't fuck with my head more than End of Evangelion right?

The series on a whole might not be an amazing masterpiece, but the parts are greater than the whole. If you watch the entire series, by the end of it you will probably feel that a few of the episodes alone were worth the time and cost invested into the entire series.

I hope that helps you make your decision!

Beast Mechanoid Dancougar 04

Damn I love this show, the character dynamic are fantastic. The production value are better than I expected too so far.
Yessir, that's Ushi.

Ugh another addition to my backlog, and that also tell me Mad Pierrot need to watch GGG

Betterman 3

Needs more monster of the week, less pseudoscience. It was weird how the lead's military fanboyism actually mattered instead of just being some throwaway line last ep too.

I want to make time for Dancougar myself sometime. Also from what I read the GGG crossover stuff is mostly just the occasional guest star that ties continuity rather than anything plot specific. Grand Glorious Gathering supposedly ties the shows better anyhow.
