Damnet MS, we have gone a whole two months without you responding to the PS4 announcement. Lets not even talk about the Wii U and the huge head start they have on you. Explain yourself!!!

NO. You're not getting the point.

Everything is, technically, online, yes... but name one device that demands that you to be online in order for you to actually use it...

My phone is the most connected device I have. It allow me to call people, text them, send them pictures, check mail, use the internet and it isn't even always connected to it's service. I use airplane mode to prevent calls from coming in. I turn off data when I don't need it. I'm not always connected to wifi. I use my phone for a lot more than phone calls, and internet. If it didn't work unless I was connected to the service/data, or wifi it would be a horrible device to me, and I'd seek a tablet or something.

Why would MS announce or renounce a feature they're preparing for their presentation? Patience guys. I'm sure we'll get the news we want.

As for Orth, not sure his career is secure anymore. What a dumbass way to ruin ur life.

If this guy actually got fired over this, I'll refuse to buy durango purely on those grounds... always online or not.

Microsoft can go fuck themselves if they fired a guy for expressing his opinion.

Considering the reactions I wonder how many years of his salary he lost them in an instant. Dude was fucking dumb giving it out in such a way before the system is officially announced.

Retaliation is a bitch but that's how the corporate state works.

i wonder how the guy is feeling right now. the internet just destroyed his career and people are laughing about it.

Let's be honest, the internet didn't destroy his career. He that himself, if he was joking, it was definitely the wrong time to do such a thing and then to double down on it with his ridiculous comments with even more ridiculous nonsense, well...it was never going to end well.

I hope he's looking long and hard in the mirror and making some personal changes, because his behaviour wasn't becoming of someone who could be and was seen as a representative of a large corporation.

I suspect he won't based on what others who have worked with him have had to say.

The wiiu is one head start I don't think they'll be worrying about. The darned thing isn't even getting new games in the one store near me that stocked it at launch now as it's just not selling. They need to worry about ps4.

as for this, it's never funny when someone loses their job. He was foolish but I can't see how anyone would find any satisfaction in it.

If pretty much any of us here did the same thing with our job title on our Twitter account we'd be fired too. I know I would. My employer has PR for that purpose. It's ludicrous to pretend he's being victimised when no employer would tolerate what Adam did.

The way people are setting this up, Microsoft can stun at their event simply by saying there's offline play. Stop lowering the bar, you guys!

MS knows how to treat their customers right. Look at this sweet birthday gift they just sent me:

I could be wrong, but I feel his fatal mistake was the "#dealtwithit" tag in his first post. Things snowballed from there.

Telling people to "deal with it" is not a nice thing to do, and it can easily rile up others.

UPDATE: Microsoft has issued a formal apology for "the inappropriate comments" of Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth in relation to his recent 'always-online' Twitter debate.

"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday," said the platform holder in a new statement.
"This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

ahahahahahahaha

I pissed myself laughing over this.

I love how much people are bending over backwards to continue the dismayed melodrama..

They apologised and referred to themselves as having a consumer centric approach..

looking forward to their next move... and Mr Orth's

Wait, he got fired?! Doesn't US have unions? Because here in northern EU, it would be illegal to fire someone over something like this.

I personally think it sounds a bit too harsh if he really lost his job because of this.

Not true as every employment contract has a code of conduct, which his tweets would have definitely breached.

Unions, even those in Northern Europe have no power against that. In the UK, if a civil servant, who have major union backing performs an action thats "conduct unbecoming a civil servant" the union would just say "thats that".

Hell, I know one that got a little drunk on a Friday night and caused enough of a scene for the police to take him to the station. No charges were filled as no crime was committed but he still got fired with no means of protection

If you say something that can impact your company in a negative way, of course you're then at the mercy of your company (especially if you signed a NDA, a legally binding document).

Wow very carefully worded response. They avoided mentioning any aspect of nextbox and instead focused on the way orth communicated.

He created a PR disaster for his employer. The surprise would have been him keeping his job. He fucked up.

It's not so much that they are forcing online, it's that they are forcing us to be connected to their servers at all times or the console won't function. Having seen what happened with Diablo 3 and SimCity it's not an appealing prospect.

This is the point that needs to be hammered home. Some people don't seem to understand the implications. If an internet connection is available, the 360 is always online. If one is not, it still works just fine. That is not what they want. They want your console to have to ask permission to operate every time you turn it on or try to play a game. At any point MS can deny this permission. Banhammers just got real. Not only will consoles be blocked from live, they will literally be bricked.

You have no clue.

He's an employee at Microsoft. Possibly with access to information that they are not ready to go public with yet.

It's entirely possible that in a roundabout way, he revealed/confirmed their plans for their next console. Something that I think it's pretty safe to say is something they are significantly invested in both from a time aspect as well as money.

He also acted like an ignorant shit publically on Twitter in a manner that can be tied directly to Microsoft.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike Microsoft. If they fired this guy...this isn't one of those reasons.

Microsoft...PLEASE institute a "no twitter" policy for your employees. PLEASEEEE

Not only will this stop incidents like this from happening, it will also take Major Nelson and Arthur off twitter.

With the rumor that they are waiting until the end of May to announce the new console, I can only see this getting worse as each day passes.

Before finishing this whole post I was against this, because we'd get less information about durango. When I made it to the last part I was sold haha.

The problem is, he is one of the public faces of Microsoft, and when he is speaking about their product, he is expressing not only his opinion, but those of the company as well. People in positions like this MUST realize what they say is directly tied to who they are.

And this guy pulled a straight up Leroy Jenkins as far as reveal strategies go.

The sad thing is: He is right. Everything is always online and everybody is fine with it.

This is bullshit. My PC doesn't have to be always online, my iPad doesn't have to be always online, my android phone doesn't have to be always online, the Ps4 won't have to be always online, the Wii U doesn't have to be always online, my Laptop doesn't have to be always online, shit I don't have anything or know of any physical product that has be always online, so no.

No no no NO.

Why is the online thing even being considered to being reasonable here? Especially with stuff like the Sim City fiasco that happened recently. It's not only that your connection has to be working, which is annoying by itself due to the "quality" of some ISPs; but their authentication servers, which could be hacked, overloaded at launch of a game, taken down years from now, etc.
