Attack on Titan - 01

Amazing first episode. I have yet to read the manga to determine its faithfulness to it but by going from the impressions made by others it seems they managed to do that with the pilot at the very least. The visuals were gorgeous and the direction was solid. What really got to me was near the end when
Eren's mom realized she would never see her son again and meekly calls out pleading for him not to leave her alone.
In my opinion the lack of focus on
her getting broken and eaten by the giant and more so on Eren watching the scene as they made their retreat made the scene all the more powerful.

Looking forward to next week!

Just when I thought the memories of my childhood couldn't be butchered some more.

What they did to Mewtwo is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. This picture is quite fitting.

Now you know how all those 20-30 something year old women who liked MLP as kids feel about you

I don't think you're the target audience for this.

Also, calling it a "boy needs to save the world" plot is kind of inaccurate. This is about the futility of fighting a force much more powerful than humans. Whether the world gets saved or not eventually is irrelevant.
Unfortunately you have a profound misunderstanding of this show.
In the end, it's going to be the same thing though.
I really have no idea what to think now. lol

At the very least, it's a very standard fantasy set up. Boy sees village burn down, becomes the chosen one, helps fight evil.

Well, I mean, it is a fighting shounen. That said,
the characters are going to be aged soon
, and like duckroll said before, it's more of a "Band of Brothers" type of story with a large ensemble cast. And in the story's defense, AoT treats its female characters with more respect than the vast majority of manga, let alone shounen. I mean
Mikasa
is quite clearly demonstrated to be a much better fighter than
Eren.
Well, even Band of Brothers has main characters and through-lines that you follow throughout the series (Outside of the Blythe episode anyway). But it'll be interesting to see it get there... sounds like Valkyria Chronicles 3 actually.

LOL, they'd have to really diverge from the source for that, there's absolutely no sex in the manga so far, or even romance or fanservice really.
I guess the Japanese version of sexposition would be characters talking to each other while holding hands.

Save us Toriko.
If only I could get interested in Toriko. :( lol

Lost > E7AO.

. Big episode in terms of plot development and character exploration. Usagi
pulling her biggest Shinji histrionics yet
surprised me, but it didn't get annoying. This episode was mainly here as set up for the finale (which is still a long ways considering the episode count), but it still managed to be very tense.
I called Luna/Silver Millennium being an extraterrestrial entity!

P.S. Goodbye
Zoisite, but you are still a bitch. Just because they managed to make your farewell sentimental doesn't mean you are any less of a jerk. I hope you rot in hell.

So basically:

Damon Lindelof > Sho Aikawa?

Sure. But that's kinda like saying...

Joel Schumacher > Brett Ratner

It depends on which work from each hack you're comparing! Some are better than others! You could reverse the equation too, if you're comparing something different!

Tamako Market ending was pretty awful. Terrible cast. I think it's the worst show I've seen from KyoAni in years (worse than their Key ones).

Well Eren is still the main character, but the rest of the cast isn't just there for show. Anyway, Armin is the secret main character, IMO.

I don't know if this flies when the manga shows it.
Just to be clear, I don't particularly care about the manga beyond knowing the show is an adaptation. What interests me is how the cartoon works as a piece of television. Just because the manga already did it doesn't mean the adaptation has to adhere to it religiously.

I liked that part in the manga as well. It's a little touch that adds a feeling of authenticity to an otherwise fantastic situation.

lol Did you guys seriously not notice what Game Freak did to evolutions/alternate formes of the original 151 Pokémon all these years? Mewtwo is just the latest victim in a long string of serial murders. :(

It's not like a ton of the original 151 were just three of the pre-evo stuck together, or not really distiginguishable from the pre-evo.

Facing the Giants 1

That was fantastic.

The scene with
the mom calling out to her son one last time
really got to me. It's usually something that comes across as really cliche in other works but they really managed to sell it here spectacularly, imo.

Consider me fucking hyped.

I really like how that ended. Avoiding the most obvious outcomes,
the guy bailed the fuck out instead lol
. It seems to me that the best way to take these things out is to tie up the legs ATAT style, or are the titans actually intelligent enough to avoid that?

The character outlines remind me a lot of Kaiji character art, its a good look.

OreImo Season 2

Episode 1

Can't unhear Chitanda and Oreki...
The "curious" line by Manami was kind of funny too.

-First minute or so was weird.
-Kirino is still annoying while in tsun mode. She's also even more of an Otaku than I remember watching that shopping spree.
-Manami is still really nice.
-Ayase is a lot more clingy than I remember but
awesome in Yandere mode. <3
-BL girl is still great.

The scene where Kirino keeps talking on the phone reminds me of when I was somewhere for a little while and some girl was going on about nothing to someone on her cellphone and as soon as she hung up she dialed another person and started talking to them about nothing of any importance. She did this a few times and I had the same "How many people are you going to call and talk about nothing to?" reaction.

I'd have to agree with Kuroneko about not wanting to talk though. Sometimes I'm also of the mindset that just because you're in the same general room as someone doesn't mean you have to talk. It's not just the whole "Anti-social internet generation" thing some might go on about but more I might not have anything to talk about and find what the other person has to say isn't all that interesting. I'm not really a small talk type person.

That's why I actually liked those kind of quite moments in Hyouka where Chitanda and Oreki were both at the table in the clubroom but were each quietly reading their own novels and not bothering the other. Sometimes the company is just enough and you don't have to be outright speaking to one another.

So I've been listening to Shingeki's OP repeatedly and I think the lyrics really make it for me, it's synced extraordinarily well. I definitely don't hate it now, I'm actually starting to like it.

One thing AoT does consistently well is subvert the common shounen trope of defeating more powerful enemies through sheer force of will. Sometimes you really can't win, no matter how much you want to!

The Titans do share a common weakness, but good god is bringing down even one a total bitch.

Can you make an RPG party with a fire mage, a water mage, and a fighter?

This looks like a more generic version of Tanken Driland, but with girls because girls are moe kawaii uguu. Ah well.

If the credits posted on 2ch are accurate (and the Sakuga Wiki seems to think the ep2 credits are accurate at least, but I haven't seen any scans yet), Yuzuru Tachikawa will be storyboarding and directing episode 5 of Attack on Titan. Yes, that's the director of Death Billiards.
