Of Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft; which would the industry miss the least?

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
Has anyone said Nintendo? Ahahaha.
Yes, mostly from the perspective on the industry which is silly because as stakeholder we're part of the industry too.

Also who would the developers crib all their idea off of if Nintendo left?

Losing Nintendo software would be devastating.

Nintendo losing the ability to uphold that standard would also be devastating.
Nintendo hardware can survive because it will only take 1 or 2 more generations before graphics reach a plateau.

None...
If someone leave we gamers will pay the price.
Let the market do the job :) we will pay less for gaming. Its hard to perform good with everey new console, Nintendo with N64, GameCube en now WiiU (to early to say)
Microsofdt with Xbox1 and Sony with Vita......:)

Microsoft.

Started the $60 price tag
Bungie is gone therefore Halo franchise is irrevelant.
Peter Molyneux is gone. Fable is irrevelant.
Rare = LOL
Kinect = LOL
Basic free features locked behind a paywall.

Microsoft, sad to say.

Nintendo is the last remaining granfather of games and Sony feels more deeply rooted in the industry than MS, imo.

Right now? Microsoft.

But if they were to be wiped from the history of gaming and all of their innovations undone, then Sony has probably contributed the least.

the answer is totally sony. sure, they've got some good first party games, but they are the most "me too!" force in this industry.

nintendo has iconic games, pushed motion gaming, defined the handheld market, pioneered 3d and analog controls. they're the most dynamic force in innovation in gaming, no question.

but MS, while they aren't as iconic in terms of games, really created and continue to dominate the current console FPS trend that is the dominant genre. they actually took motion gaming and did something interesting with it, even if it doesn't work amazingly well as a substitute for a controller. they took online gaming and turned it to 11. they pushed indie gaming more than any other console. they have the best controller, and they continue to innovate on that front. they're also the only first party publisher with any kind of foothold on PC, and they lead the way with first the xbox and then the 360 in turning consoles into basically PCs with louder fans, allowing the convergence between PC and console gaming.

meanwhile, what has sony done for us? they make good consoles, and they have good relationships with third parties, especially japanese. and that's great. I like my sony consoles a lot. and it would be annoying if they dropped out of the hardware business. but they are very boring, and the role they play could easily be played by someone else.

We can play this game with Nintendo and Sony too. But you know what the end game will be...

That people are greedy and will want as much money as possible. But I don't think Amazonian shamanistic priests are making games anytime soon, so we are stuck with what we got.

Pretty clear that while MS pushed Indies more than the others early on they are no longer leading the way. That is clearly Sony who seems to have much better relationships with indie devs too.

In terms of supporting the PC, please. They havent released their newer games this entire gen on PC. Just recently they have allowed older games to hit Steam. Thats it. No Gears. No Halo. Alan Wake wasnt by MS. It was MS that tried bringing their paid online to the PC and gamers laughed MS said screw it and turned its back.

You mean best P2P online that's actually handled by each game.

Microsoft does nothing than provide something that's worst than other social platforms.

Xbox LIVE made voice chat work in console games by making that headset a standard pack-in. That is very social.

Sony obviously sees the advantage of this and is doing the exact same thing for PS4.
..because they want to be known as the social platform.

We cant afford to lose any of them yet. They still need to ape more of eachothers ideas.

Definitely Microsoft. Like someone said, Number of popular IP's and Lineage. Sony and Nintendo have them beat on both.

That doesn't make MS a failure, and it doesn't mean they are irrelevant or anything. Its just that they would easily be missed the least.

A $10 headset packed in with every console. I'm simply stunned by the innovation on display here.

You would have a better argument by saying party chat, because that's what most people are thankful for. More people curse MS for allowing basic voice chat to happen online because of how strangers act online. It was only when party chat was introduced that the mic actually became useful.

Isn't the Ps3 currently the best selling console WW? And it's not the cheapest console out there.

Playstation brand is still pretty big across the globe.

Wii still wins, MS and Sony are fighting over scraps.
Xbox sells best where the biggest games are created.

Such a simple bit of forward thinking helped define the service.

Party Chat was not there 11 years ago, but rooms full of gamers chatting and exploring the wonder of online gaming- many for the first time was special.

Bonds were made. You missed out.

MS and Sony fighting over scraps? Their consoles are still selling and gaining mindshare, while the Wii brand is dead for almost two years now. Ps3 and X360 are currently more relevant than the Wii. Ps3's and X360's constant popularity and demand will definitely help Sony's and MS' transition to nextgen.

X360's biggest advantage was, and still is, its lower price. But Ps3 is still selling more than the X360 when it comes to WW numbers. MS is totally irrelevant in one market. Sony is popular in all.

I didn't miss out on anything. I was there on xbox live from 05 to whenever they introduced party chat (08 I think?).

What story of mine would you like to hear? The time I was called a jewbag faggot? The time I was called various forms of the N word? The time I was called a hacker (after about 20 expletives preceding it) just for killing a guy?

Party chat was a godsend and probably the best thing MS has ever done in the console gaming space.

If it were for one of them to just step down from manufacturing, I would say Nintendo. But since OP says both that and publishing, then MS easily.

Not bitter, just unsweetened
Sony is really the only acceptable answer

Microsoft and Nintendo have been FAR more innovative in the timeframe which Sony entered the industry.

I don't recall a single thing Sony has given to the industry.

Microsoft, of all the console makers, they are the only one who doesn't do anything new. its nice that they made online so important, but consider this. They had a chance to create a whole new IP with 343 industries, but instead they decided to reboot halo.

Nintendo is taking a risk in making new ways to play games..just wished they made new IPs to go with it....

Sony has been leading the charge in terms of making new IPs and thats why I would really miss them if they were gone. Even this late into the PS3 life cycle they are willing to put out a new IP.

Tough one, while it's easy to say the industry would miss Nintendo the least, it's their handhelds that's all but making me write them off.

As a manufacturer it's between Sony and Microsoft, but out of my personal preference I wouldn't bat an eyelid if Microsoft just up and dissapeared tomorrow.

This pretty much. I don't remember the last time when anything from Microsoft wowed me after Halo. And they pretty much have nothing now. They have Forza. Bungie leaving is such such a big deal. They pretty much lost Halo. Now that I think about it...Bungie left them. Molyneux is gone. Cliff is gone. I have no idea what Microsoft is going to have up their sleeve come E3. In terms of games, I mean. I don't give a fuck if it's going to be streaming 4k Netflix or some shit.

The industry needs games like Mario Galaxy to come out every once in awhile, I think.

I have formed friendships from 2002 that stayed no matter where in the world I live.
Through thick and thin.. I have purchased games for some of my friends if they could not afford it- and vice versa. Real bonds were made. Friends do nice things for eachother.
I ended up getting hired at a videogame store on Xbox LIVE..

Maybe its because I am a friendly Canadian.

I would not miss Microsoft at all.

Nintendo gave me a console in the N64 with 4 controller ports that defined most of my summers with goldeneye, PD, mario kart, WCW wrestling games, wave race, etc.

Sony gave me amazing cinematic experiences with CD based media, and my later teenage years were spent playing games like Tekken 3, FF7-9, Gran Turismo, etc...

Microsoft gave me a subscription service that charges me for what other consoles give me for free, they neutered rare, gave me spacebucks, stuffed my home screen full of ads, made games $60, and red rings of death, started console specific dlc and exclusivity practices. At least Halo was fun.
