Dark Souls: PTD sells 300,000 on PC, better PC dev. promised, DS2 was debuted on PC

Hopefully the community doesn't fix the game for From this time around. I want a quality PC version at launch please.

I won't buy it if it has GFWL. Durante's amazing mod fixed the visual aspect of the Dark Souls port, but the networking aspect - equally as important in a game like DS - remained broken beyond repair thanks to Microsoft's shitty system. I'd rather pick it up on PS3 and endure worse visuals than not experience the online properly.

I would have bought the PC version if the money went to Durante instead of those incompetent fucks who thought it was acceptable to put out one of the worst PC ports of all time.

Thanks for buying our shitty port, we will promise to put more than 5 mins into it this time!

At least they finally recognize the audience, unlike Capcom who sits on Dragons Dogma, a game that is catered to the Western/PC audience.

I'm really confused I was under the impression that it was a great port it just didn't have all the features that PC people typically talk about

define port people because to me keeping the exact same game in tact is .... A great port I mean shit they can't even get that right on consoles most of the time....

not sure how the resolution of the game would really hider things the frame rate I understand but

Port means port they never said they'd enhance it given the purity of a game like this

Why, is DS2 out already?

but yeah, probably will have bad framerates
Something like that. I remember seeing high resolution and AO pretty much on the same day.

There was a considerable amount of stuttering in the IGN video released yesterday. It was noticeable and jarring.

Vanilla Dark Souls was an awful port. Very few PC ports are worse. Luckily, it wasn't too hampered with extreme performance issues.

How about nothing?

I'm sick of proprietary PC bullshit wherever it comes from.

Umm, because you're gonna get some online infrastructure. Unless you want them to license Gamespy or some crap. That's just the way it is. You roll with the least objectionable solution. And that's why people like Steamworks. Because in a stew of sludge, it's the least objectionable solution.

Not sure why I've typed any of this. I feel this is surely a meme meant to troll at this point. Because this is often brought up, and the answer is always ignored. So I'm sure it has to be a troll. How else could people not understand why Steamworks is so popular a choice among gamers. It's PURELY because the alternatives are a lot shittier. It's pretty simple to grasp actually.

Seriously, what the hell man? From Software makes one of the best games and releases it to PC after fan petitions, and you deride them? What a joke.

I don't care if the Dark Souls II port is as bad as the first one. I certainly hope it isn't, but I'm still going to play it (
and I will love every minute of it
).

Really what I hope they fix is gravelording. I love that aspect from Demon's Souls, but it was far too rare and difficult to get working in Dark Souls. I hope the new game works off a tendency system too. I want mah red shadows.

Quoting myself from the IGN trailer thread...

Good shit FROM & Bamco, and glad to see the game did very well on PC despite the shit quality port (nice to see that they are very open in admitting that). My hype shot up even more after hearing that.

Still though, they need to put in an NPC or an enemy that is called Durante, maybe the DS2 version of Havel.

I guess a Mac release is probably too much to hope for? Not that I'll mind another romp on my PS3.

Also give Durante a job, FROM.

That's like saying you are saying you are okay with eg Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles on the PS3 running at 640x480 or whatever resolution the Wii version ran at, because "it's a port" and the game was left "intact". Think about it.

I really hope the PC version of Dark Souls 2 will have an unlocked frame rate.

The video was at 30, but that's probably because the player is locked there.

And treated my platform like garbage. They deserved not to get my money for it.

They didn't treat it like garbage, they were very up front about the nature of the port.

They told us that they were aiming to give the same experience as console users. They told us they were not skilled in PC development so to keep expectations of glitz low. They told us the game is designed to be played with a controller, so they'll try M+KB support but that controller is the way that you should without a doubt play the game.

And when the game came out, it was basically everything they said and lead on that it would be.

The game was a direct port of the console versions, nothing more, nothing less. There's nothing heinous about it and they didn't treat your platform like garbage.

PREPARE TO BUY
His mod has 200k downloads and people can donate, if even a fraction of people donated he made a lot of money for a mod he himself probably wanted too.

Its a little sad to realize that (even assuming 1 download of the mod per sold copy) about 30% of the people who bought this are playing a terrible looking version of what is a beautiful game.

Seriously From, I can understand fucking it up initially. But would it kill you to patch that shit now that you know how its done?

Capcom should try releasing the Revelations version at 320p or something and see what console guys feel then. :D

Now people can shut the fuck up about it already.

The mod had 200k downloads and people can donate. I think he also made the mod for himself to improve his experience and not just for everyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if people pirated but donated to him too.

Ok so they were honest about it being garbage. That makes it all better.

There are some simple base rules that even the worst PC ports follow, them saying they wanted to make it the same as the console version doesn't give them a free pass to do it and get away with it.

You still have to buy the game which means they get money they don't deserve.

I'm really excited. Loved this game on the 360 but performance wise it left a lot to be desired. I know went PC but won't buy DS1 cause of GFWL I pvp a lot and with a broken online infrastructure the game isn't worth it to me. I hope they get it right this time around.

I knew it! The resolution in that demo didn't look at all like the one on 360. Also the frame rate was buttery smooth.

FROM should consider giving Durante a check because it was because of him that a lot of those copies sold.

Yeah well they did make the game, without the game there would be no DSfix, nothing to donate to, more importantly no Dark Souls on PC for PC gamers to enjoy.

I am thankful for the mod, but come back to reality.

Steamworks over GFWL.

I find myself believing that Namco could very well go either way in this regard considering the recently-released Ace Combat port uses GFWL. You could argue that a belated port of a title in a niche franchise didn't warrant the effort, but nonetheless it's cause for at least a modicum of doubt.

While I'm of course happy when people acknowledge my work, everyone shouldn't forget about Nwks who made (and maintained!) the 60 FPS mod. I would very likely never have been able to do that alone.

Anyway, I'm happy it did so well for them, getting better versions of future iterations of the series on PC is pretty much the best outcome I can hope for. And one of the reasons I initially started the mod (the other being that I like good image quality a lot). I just hope they really are putting as much care into the PC version as they say they are.

Something like that. I remember seeing high resolution and AO pretty much on the same day.
High resolution was that quick, though still buggy. AO took a week or two at least though IIRC. Primarily because I was stupid and didn't recognize the Z buffer format for a while.

This means that possibly far more than 100,000 people were forced to play Dark Souls in 1280x720, 30fps, and without any anti-aliasing on PC.

Let us pray for these poor souls. Amen.

I bought it the other day. Res fix was great but...I can't change the key bindings :(

I got it a little while ago too, and resorted to buying a 360 controller just for this game as the keyboard+mouse was so horrific to use.... game cost seven quid, controller to play it was seventeen quid... oh well.

Hope DS2 is better out of the box...

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
How many of those downloads were @ $15?

Even if all sales were at the $15 price point, that would be 4.5 million dollars (not accounting for the retailer's cut).

It was certainly worth the 10 grand-or-so the PC port cost.

Hmm I'd love to play this on PC first but I hate buying physical PC games. I need a special edition for my Souls games.

Probably gonna have to double dip then!

If we assume the generally-accepted estimate of 30%, that'd put the figure at $3.15m
