Zelda game set in Link to the Past world coming to the 3DS, holiday 2013

The main problem seems to be they are rushing it.
A sequel to ALTTP deserves more love and care than a NSMB take on things.

Simply recreating the sprites as 3D assets doesn't really cut it.

It's a bit disappointing, but hey, what can you do?

I dont get why they would have to. It's not like the 3DS is doing poorly or doesn't have any other games out this year.

well from the reaction of this thread it is not officially a Zelda game

What in the short clip leads you to believe (or fear) its getting an NSMB treatment? Out of curiosity?

Is that some game stuck in the eShop ghetto

because no, nobody does

duckroll and co., its one thing to have differing opinions on whether this game looks good or whether its good news, but are you going to try and tell me this guy is in this thread for any reason other than to try and get a rise out of people?

Well, looks like they're finally making New Legend of Zelda. I've yet to see things that show Nintendo's full commitment to the project because it doesn't look all that pretty or original, and I hate that talk about 3D, but we'll see.

A bit of a shame that they're not making it for Wii U instead though. That would have been bolder, and with NSMB going from DS to Wii they've already had ample proof that a home console release should be considered.

It's weird how they kept the SNES-style scrolling.
It's like they kept a limitation of the SNES just for nostalgia's sake, as if people are nostalgic about areas divided up into smaller sections.

Plus the camera is following Link the whole way. The combo of both is really dumb.

I have no idea what this game will look like or how well it will play when it comes out. And I'm glad to see another zelda game come out of nintendo. I'm also undoubtedly looking forward to playing this. But sometimes it feels like nintendo is in the business of copying itself.

Why do they constantly need to recreate their old ideas? It's a game with a bunch of new stuff in it that looks potentially pretty awesome, so why not let it be its own game? Why must this be LttP2?

It's like the new developers are in reverence of the old guys so much that all they can do is emulate them without coming up with their own ideas. Or maybe it's the old guys who are still leading these projects but are stuck in past.

I don't know, but the nintendo of old would jump at the chance to make something brand new for a new console. Imagine the SNES came out and you got was a zelda 1 remix with slightly different art. It would be a cop-out.

That's not what this is, sure. This is more like the difference between a company trying to implement every good idea it can come up with (LttP, OoT, SMG) and a company that's trying to recreate the past and add just a little more and call it done (NSMB, AC:CF, Mario Party). Or at least that's what it looks like. I can only hope I'm proved wrong.

This sounds super negative but I know nintendo can find (and then execute!) some of the most startlingly brilliant ideas, but reliving the past isn't one of them.

Well that's my 2c on a game I've barely seen :p

Well said good sir

Maybe I'm dead wrong, but I think this game is mainly the fruits of younger developers that are preparing to take over the Zelda games once the older staff is gone. It does look like it somehow. I remember NSMB 2 mainly being developed by younger developers, so I might be right.

if it's new super zelda bros then that means the console versions will play better than their snes and n64 predecessors but nobody will admit it
It was already sort of done with Four Swords. Retro graphics + 4 players.

It's an amazing series to manifest love/hate!

ughhhh it looks so sterile and lifeless compared to ALTTP. It's like they slapped a "NEW SUPER MARIO BROS" filter over this new zelda. Same thing with that new Yoshi game. I hate this NSMB-inspired aesthetic, just looking at this triggers "WAH WAH" in my head.

I now have LTTP song in my head with all sounds made of WAHs.

Funny item: didn't Miyamoto, Aonuma, and others mention several times that they really liked ALTTP and were considering a remake of it in some form or another?

If so this game shouldn't really be a surprise. It was a matter of time until it appeared.

Unless it looks like Minish Cap then I don't mind at all. I just feel like Nintendo has become incredibly cheap with handheld Zeldas lately.

I don't think one can honestly say the last two handheld Zeldas were cheap in any way. A lot of people didn't like the DS games due to the stylus controls or overworld concept. But they were "big budget" for handheld games. Very long. Full of original art assets, music, and lots of locations.

They were big games and a lot of effort was put into them.

Actually, even the 3DS re-release of Ocarina wasn't a cheap port. They did a heck of a lot of work on that to optimize the game engine and improve models and textures.

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
My feelings from reading the title and then coming into the thread was a very harsh reality. Revisit areas from a game many hold fondly in an ugly looking game, hoorah.

Oh well, 3DS is looking to have some great stuff coming.

I don't see what the big fuss is. Looks meh. If it weren't a "sequel" to LTTP it wouldnt be getting nearly as much hype.

I'm not seeing it. Can someone please explain to me how the bottom pic looks like it is full of life compared to the gif above?

Did anyone say it was? Phantom Hourglass was set in the same world as Wind Waker. It wasn't called Wind Waker 2.

I was just playing LTTP and it is by far my favourite zelda game. The open worldness to it was something I really felt as if later zeldas lost. I am glad this is happening but I hope they are using a different map and not the same one. Also I think they should have used 2-D artsyle rather than this horrible 3-D one. Just look how amazing lttp looks:

I may be in the minority on this but I prefer the above art style.

Oh boy, here it comes. The whole "rushing" claim, for games we knew nothing about before this point. Have any proof or is that a go to reason whenever it doesn't look as you wanted it to? We've seen very little of the game...and mainly areas meant to show comparisons to ALTTP

Really only the overworld is lookin kinda bland, and even that is only because of the quality of the tree models. The dungeon footage all looked really great. I'm inclined to think they'll do some additional work on the overworld before this drops, though again, the 3D effect really helps it look nicer.

I feel the same... Maybe it's cuz I'm used to it though...

Just watched it on the 3DS, hoped to get a better impreession of it...

God, it's awful, the style is bland, the animation is bland, the scenarios are bland. It looks so soulless...

Truly the NSMB of Zeldas, I can't believe Nintendo could use those cheap 3D graphics for a Zelda.

So sad, this should be a happy momment.
