3D Dot Game Heroes is significantly prettier than what they showed of LTTP2 so far...

Same overworld as aLttP confirmed? I remember this section in the overworld. Hopefully there's more original sections, too.

That area was indeed from the original overworld (light world).

Here's a comparison:

Looks like they added more bushes this time around.

The Celda hate was a reaction to the bait and switch with the E3 concept demo, along with people dissatisfied with it being "kiddy" and not "mature."

This is just ugly.

As for it being a work in progress: yes. The game isn't out. Everyone knows. You're allowed to react to what's in front of you.

I blame the 3DS and the 3D push Nintendo is going for I still want my Wind Waker HD over this although ALTTP is my favorite Zelda style

The graphics and setting are secondary...

Nintendo needs to show me awesome dungeon and puzzle design. I felt really fucking burned by Spirit Tracks. Phantom Hourglass was piss easy too. If this is just PH/ST level with a new coat of paint, I'm not interested.

Well let's say you missed the sign in the dark world that tells you to throw a stone to get one of the medallions, which could easily happen as I don't think you have to ever go there for anything else, then you can't get to turtle rock. What do you do from there? Walk across every inch of the map until you stumble upon the sign? That's not trusting the player to be smart, that's the equivalent of a 3000x3000 pixel hunt.

Dunno? Don't remember missing it. Don't recall ever getting stuck there. The game is 20 years old and I haven't played it in awhile. Still don't care since that, to me, is better than some imaginary friend screaming hints to me every other screen.

It would be hilarious and depressing if they have a like a 3 hour tutorial like the 3D zelda have. Hopefully not. I still cant believe they are making a new top down Zelda.

This is so awesome. I don't like the art style, either (same goes for Yoshi's Island), but this game lives or dies on its gameplay.

So this is the same Link right? Just minus the pink hair.

So hoping Bunny Link comes back, also
If Ganon is the big baddie again, hope Agahnim makes a surprise appearance.

I have no idea what this game will look like or how well it will play when it comes out. And I'm glad to see another zelda game come out of nintendo. I'm also undoubtedly looking forward to playing this. But sometimes it feels like nintendo is in the business of copying itself.

Why do they constantly need to recreate their old ideas? It's a game with a bunch of new stuff in it that looks potentially pretty awesome, so why not let it be its own game? Why must this be LttP2?

It's like the new developers are in reverence of the old guys so much that all they can do is emulate them without coming up with their own ideas. Or maybe it's the old guys who are still leading these projects but are stuck in past.

I don't know, but the nintendo of old would jump at the chance to make something brand new for a new console. Imagine the SNES came out and you got was a zelda 1 remix with slightly different art. It would be a cop-out.

That's not what this is, sure. This is more like the difference between a company trying to implement every good idea it can come up with (LttP, OoT, SMG) and a company that's trying to recreate the past and add just a little more and call it done (NSMB, AC:CF, Mario Party). Or at least that's what it looks like. I can only hope I'm proved wrong.

This sounds super negative but I know nintendo can find (and then execute!) some of the most startlingly brilliant ideas, but reliving the past isn't one of them.

Well that's my 2c on a game I've barely seen :p

I would have them explore the new hyrule made in spirit tracks but they went in for nostalgia.

On the game i don't like the art style, but i'm glad more games are made

The mix of 2D and 3D is hit and miss on this one (while I just love it with the New Mario and Luigi), the big red buttons just feel out of place, and I don't know how I feel about the 'paper mario' mechanic.

But I really like what they did with the different depth effects, should look real nice in 3D.

The wall-mural mechanic could make for some really cool puzzles. Looking around for platforms, window ledges and items that may be parallel, etc. The way you can go outside of the dungeon via that method may open up possibilities too.

I hope this game doesn't have any shitty instruments or companions. It'd be nice if its a similar overworld, but aged/changed, and we actually explore areas beyond the clouded area on the original map or something...

I'm disappointed...

I really wanted 3D Zelda. I feel like Nintendo just realized they could create a cheap Zelda flaw while appealing to both the DS owner used to top down Zelda and the older crowd with nostalgia for A Link to the Past.

if it's new super zelda bros then that means the console versions will play better than their snes and n64 predecessors but nobody will admit it

Ah man, I hope it's not the same maps/area. That would be a definite letdown if it's all in the same places. I played THE SHIT out of that game.

Get Inside Her!
Anyway it really does look nice in the actual 3D trailer from the eshop. Makes that flat shitty overworld screen a lot more dimensional, just with the trees and the dudes and all. The actual variation in landmass height wasn't reflected in the 3D, though, which was kinda strange. I get the sense that the visuals are pretty early in certain sections still, which is hardly without precedent. Every Zelda in history has released looking better than its reveal.

Good Art™
The main problem seems to be they are rushing it.
A sequel to ALTTP deserves more love and care than a NSMB take on things.

I think it's a little more polished than that, but i see your point.
That's what i was saying earlier.

To Nintendo it seems when something is "retro" it's not something they want to polish in a way it would make some kid dream. That's the whole thing i hate about the new mario bros. They make Mario an iconic cold level content oriented game, like tetris or space invaders. It's not about giving some energy to give it some life, cause it's assumed as a videogame, in a way it can be boxes and pasted things.

But back in the days, when LTTP or Mario World were released, there was an actual ambition of making them pretty alive for the kids we were.

This thread just reaffirms how much of gaf enjoys shitting on people's enthusiasm.

Not saying that everybody needs to love everything and people can't have conflicting opinions. But when a sequel to LTTP is met with back and forth bickering instead of joy and excitement...idontwanttoliveonthisplanetanymore.jpg

This isn't a sequel to LtTP. It's a regression to LtTP.

Yea, I think it is the same. Here is the part that is just above that I assume.

It's weird how they kept the SNES-style scrolling.
It's like they kept a limitation of the SNES just for nostalgia's sake, as if people are nostalgic about areas divided up into smaller sections.
