This thread just reaffirms how much of gaf enjoys shitting on people's enthusiasm.

Not saying that everybody needs to love everything and people can't have conflicting opinions. But when a sequel to LTTP is met with back and forth bickering instead of joy and excitement...idontwanttoliveonthisplanetanymore.jpg

You'd expect them to have changed that a bit when the reveal of Skyward Sword was literally a live-demo. A shitty live-demo, but it was still a live-demo.

It was a live demo, but it was also a live demo set in an early version of Faron Woods that was specifically set up like a toybox to show off the fact that you controlled the sword and items with WM+. We didn't get anything else for months.

Could be worse. It reminds me of a mix between Celda and the original game's art, for better or worse. Trees better get fixed, same goes for most low-poly/low-res stuff. But it's still in development, so that might be a given.

Remember that time Nintendo had a cool, original idea for a game?

Me neither.

They do all the time, they just rebrand the fresh ideas with old franchises because it's guaranteed to make them more money. That's the deal with tutorials and easy modes too; they're trying to appeal to everyone. They want you to experience a new landscape through old, dingy glasses. Software-wise, Nintendo in 2013 plays it safe.

Watched the video on the eShop. The 3D was really fucking annoying so I had to turn it off, as expected. Looks fine in 2D though. Models are a bit iffy, but it does look like LttP. They should increase the contrast a little I think. Making the colors look richer would go a long way in making it look even more like LttP.
Its definitely ALTTP's older brother. Just need some oil for a tuneup hehe

It's up on the UK 3DS eshop (just search "zelda"). I think the footage is slightly different, all in the same areas though - shows a boss which I don't remember seeing in the Nintendo Direct version.

To me it looked much better in 3D, could hear the music/sound properly too as no one was talking over it.

Feel sorry for you bro.

This looks great to me. It's like some kind of next gen snes era were we would have had the same kind of thing but with bump and super animated and detailed sprite.

Ok it's a little bland, the trees could us some work, it's not really focused on the mood of course.. But still it's charming.

I think they were aiming for nostalgia. "Hey, remember this from A Link to the Past."

Wow.

As exciting as this is, the graphics look bland as hell.

I know 3D games sell better, but I wish Nintendo would add a 2D pixel mode to their new games.

We still got a hell of a lot. A least a proper trailer for a game coming out in 8 months would have probably been nice.

Perspective swapping in order to solve puzzles isn't shitty.

Yeah, I know.

Crying shame this game isn't going for that though.

It's one of the best games ever. Saying that somebody is nostalgic for it is not a valid criticism.

I wish more modern games were like LTTP. Games that trusted the player had half a brain in their head to figure shit out on their own. I miss that.

Well let's say you missed the sign in the dark world that tells you to throw a stone to get one of the medallions, which could easily happen as I don't think you have to ever go there for anything else, then you can't get to turtle rock. What do you do from there? Walk across every inch of the map until you stumble upon the sign? That's not trusting the player to be smart, that's the equivalent of a 3000x3000 pixel hunt.

The Celda hate was a reaction to the bait and switch with the E3 concept demo, along with people dissatisfied with it being "kiddy" and not "mature."

This is just ugly.

As for it being a work in progress: yes. The game isn't out. Everyone knows. You're allowed to react to what's in front of you.

Nope to everything

The better the game, the bigger the expectations for the sequel.

I'm really disappointed with how this looks, and the paper Link thing looks really out of place in comparison with the rest of the art style.

I trust Nintendo though, I'm sure they won't let it ship like that.

I think Wind Waker looks fine, whereas I find the DS games to look like ass.

This game is getting my love, however. Except the trees. Fix the trees.

I should be so excited because I adore LTTP. However, the DS Zeldas have made me hesitant to the series. I will have to wait for Gaf's opinions after this is released. Hopefully Nintendo let's this be a game of adventuring with little hand holding.

I do wish Nintendo did proper trailers for these reveals. This and Yoshi just getting footage dumps whilst Iwata or whoever rabbles over it is a bit lame. In contrast, the Bravely Default trailer was some hype shit.

Couldn't agree more. It's like they forgot how to market their games.

so visual announcements are bad now?

I'd rather glimpses of gameplay than an article or tweet announcement accompanied by a few pieces of concept art and a quote stating how immersive and unique the game will be.

The trailer will release when they have more to show and we get closer to a release date.

The main problem seems to be they are rushing it.
A sequel to ALTTP deserves more love and care than a NSMB take on things.

Simply recreating the sprites as 3D assets doesn't really cut it.

It's a bit disappointing, but hey, what can you do?

Not... really, no. There was a "trailer" consisting of Link's model posing with items and a demo of Miyamoto going "this is how you slice a dude. this is how you use the slingshot. here's the beetle. okay, this is kind of fucked up, bye."

People are complaining about the graphics?! Complain about how this Link doesn't have PINK hair!

I am well over half way in Link to the Past and it never really struck me that that was his hair... I always thought it was just some part of his hat or bandana or some shit. Mind blown

Looks pretty good, though having just replayed The Minish Cap not too long ago it does seem abit...dull, colour-wise. Hopefully they can brighten the game up abit.

The critics loved it and the majority of GAF gushed over it - it's definitely a good game that you happened not to like. Nice try though. Anyway, back on topic.

You were gushing over Tomb Raider no matter what it would end up like, you're saying this will be a bad Zelda game. Based on what? It looks like ALttP, and ALttP doesn't suck, the critics said so :p
