It should also be noted that I haven't played FC1 or FC3 so I have nothing to compare it to. I just got bored out of my mind about 2 hours into the game and tried going back multiple times but ultimately end up getting bored again.

There are 10 hours left before a new contender for Excel is released. I hope I can preload earlier.

But all the games are completely independent of each other. Why should you not having played the previous iterations impact you playing the current ones?
Because I like playing all entries of a franchise, unless there's one which is absolutely terrible (the PC port of Saints Row 2, from what I understand) or I don't actually care about those games (got Just Cause 2 as a gift, and never bothered to try -and buy, of course- the first one).

Blood Dragon looks like a completely different beast than the previous games, I may make an exception for it.

Weird.... My entire steam folder says to be 54GB in space, but the games i have add up to no more than 30(very generous, probably more like 20-25.) I had about 17gb yesterday, but after I converted the TF2 files to steampipe, my hard drive is like at 6gb O_O. Any ideas why? I didn't download anything significant today or yesterday. Anyone know why Steam needs that extra 24gb of space?

Here's some screenshots if you need a final push.

This one I just cheated and got tons of money and then tried to build a giant prison. It crashed after that (it was a bug with the planning tool that I'm pretty sure is fixed now). It's hard to tell with the scale, but it's fucking huge.

This one is an actual prison that works, although I look at it now and kick myself for ten different things that could be done so much better.

Ended up purchasing the game. Played the introduction, and really enjoying it so far. Very unique too.

FC2 is complete trash.

Actually it's one of the best FPS ever made.

That is pretty common. There are tons of people who hated it in the beginning, only to suddenly "get it" and start loving it after a few more hours. I don't think it can be fairly judged after only a couple of hours.

A fucking Men. I've put over 200 hours into FC2 over the various machines and I still continue to play it even now. The Dylan Realism mod is fun as well. I don't even have that many problems with the unmodded game, it just clicked for me. I played FC3 for 30 hours or so and despite enjoying it, I never want to play it ever again. (though I am looking forward to the silliness of Blood Dragon)

I could write a huge love letter to FC2 but well it's not for here and it'd just be a load of rambling :p

No doubt I'm late to the party here, but I just realised that your screenshots, when displayed as part of the small gallery on your Community profile, aren't masked even if you've tagged them as spoilers. Nice oversight there, Valve.

You should probably stay away from my profile if you've yet to play BioInf. ;)

Yay GMG got some more 'Book of unwritten tales' keys. Looking forward to playing this over the weekend. Hopefully I don't get too distracted by spreadsheet simulator 2013 (now in 720p!).

Far Cry 2 is one of the best FPS games this gen.

STALKER is better, but really it's better than most things.

Far Cry 3 is a babby game in comparison.

Far Cry 1 is nothing like any of the above, but it does have mutant monkeys and rocket launcher arm mutants which arguably ruin the game once introduced.

The first five minutes are bearable. Then you have to play it. I still can't wrap my head around why I completed it, every single aspect and gameplay mechanic was so boring, repetitive and ill thought out imo.

Sounds like FC2 alright.

Funnily enough that is exactly how I feel about Far Cry 3, except I didn't complete it.

I got FC3 free with a new graphics card but haven't bothered yet for fear that it's even worse (and many people pointed out that it gets at least as repetitive after a while). Maybe after Blood Dragon.

Recently I found a game called 99 Spirits on Greenlight. It looks pretty interesting, it seems to mix strategy RPGs with Pokemon and puzzle gameplay. Supposedly the English version will hit in May, so hopefully it will be on Steam soon after its release.

I love the beginning and then the game slowly erodes my spirit every time. I straight up hated it by the time the credits rolled, but after getting 2/3s of the way through the game twice before I wasn't going to let the son of a bitch conquer me.

It really is just a poor man's Stalker.

FC3 BD and FEZ today.

Too bad for me, yesterday I saw saw a tweet of Renaud Bédard about the intel integrated GPUs not being supported... Guess that will make me buy another computer soon ^^

Has anyone played Prison Architect? It looks pretty enjoyable and was hoping to get some feedback on whether it's worth the $30.

It has a lot of potential. It's really enjoyable, but it's still an alpha version. Many mechanics are missing, and the game is absolutely not optimized. But I still recommend it.

that scary or what?

That scary.

And wonderfully glitchy too. Twice I've exited a room only for nothing to load and the screen to go completely white. Meanwhile some monster is screaming at me and hacking away whilst I shoot blindly at nothing.

:( :( :(

Very good game, amazing for the price. Between that and Minerva it is the natural evolution of steam. Pay nothing and still have a backlog... what an age we live in.

Dammit, I want to buy Fez, but I was hoping I'd have a little more willpower and get it for peanuts in a bundle and give Phil as little money as possible. :(

I already bought it on Xbox Live
and never played it
, think Phil would give me a Steam code if I ask nicely?

That's terrible. As competent as some of the Intel integrated GPU's are you would think there would be support for that.

If anyone has an extra copy of Don't Starve (or FC3 proper) laying around, I have an extra Blood Dragon code (UPlay) that I'd be willing to trade.

In fact it seems to be Intel's fault. The OpenGL 3.0 support for the intel HD graphics apparently isn't complete.

This sucks, these crappy GPU are more than enough for most of the indie games.

I'd say that Stalker and Far Cry 2 aim for different things really. I do love them both dearly though. It was only a few months ago I recently completed the original Stalker and it was one of the most intense experiences I've ever had. There was an initial barrier for me of the first few hours playing but after that, absolutely hooked. Using Stalker complete and the realistic weapons mod plus playing the 'lab' level late at night with headphones, very sweaty palms by the end of it!

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

I wouldn't expect Fez in a Humble Bundle. Games in Humble Bundles certainly aren't required to be indie, but I believe they are still required to be humble.

Yeah, Stalker aims to be a good gaming experience, Far Cry 2 aims to make you feel like you are literally working.

Phil Fish on the PC release of FEZ:

we've moved over 25,000 pre-sales this week! not bad for a year-late port! not bad at all! thanks so much for all your support!

for comparison, FEZ XBLA moved about 20,000 units on day one, so i guess we already beat that? sweet!

From this data:

It's more profitable to release an indie game on the PC than the xbox.

IMAGINE THAT

I suppose the best way to open this little review would be to admit that I found the game to be rather boring during its opening act. The campaign took me several weeks to finish simply because I initially lacked the drive to continue forward -- there was no momentum generated from narrative curiosities or profound enjoyment of the underlying mechanics, just a faint desire to continue for the sake of finishing what I'd started. Of course, this eventually changed dramatically -- for the better, I mean.

While BioInf does get credit for having the best combat in a BioShock game thus far, that's not exactly a high bar. I was initially happy with it as unarmoured enemies went down in a few shots and heavier types naturally took a bit more of a beating, however the combat quickly falls into the same trap as it does in so many games: enemies are made more powerful and more difficult to kill for seemingly no contextualised reason. They're simply harder for the sake of being harder. Consequently, the "battle arenas" that punctuate the campaign become less of something to look forward to and more of a chore (especially in later moments of the game), thanks to your shield -- which is nigh on useless even when fully upgraded -- being depleted in as little as one shot and enemies shrugging off a hail of gunfire before firing a rocket at your face. It's simply not fun. Similarly, the game's vigor system feels uninspired as most of them are little more than rebrands of their predecessor's equivalents, and the only interesting enemy type -- the Handy Man (sadly lacking the moustache that made him so distinguished in earlier footage) not being far removed from the Big Daddy. The combat in the game may be fine-tuned, but there's no escaping the feeling of "been there, done that."

Similar disappointment was found in Elizabeth -- not as a character, but as an AI companion. Throughout the game there's no shaking the feeling that she's less an assistant and more a vehicle for narrative exposition; her world interaction is limited to a few scripted moments and usefulness to the player confined to tossing you the occasional item while in combat or finding invisible coins during the quieter moments. You'd think that a young woman who'd spent almost her entire life locked away in a tower would be more interested in the big wide world. Really, for all of Irrational's talk, Elizabeth is little more than slightly repurposed Alyx.

Where the game does shine, however, is in its visual splendour*. The world of Columbia is, for the most part, meticulously crafted -- not a chapter goes by where you don't stop for a moment just to bask in the surrounding scenery. It's true that reaching Columbia lacks the sense of awe and wonder that diving down to Rapture did all those years ago, however there's no denying the city is infinitely more interesting from an aesthetic perspective. Sadly, where the world design does falter is in its lack of meaningful interactivity and decidedly dull NPCs. There are elements of interactivity peppered throughout your travels, of course, but outside of scripted moments they're limited to looting, sight-seeing and film-watching; this, coupled with the almost wax museumesque nature of the NPCs (they've no existence outside of a limited routine, if one at all) contrasting with the psychotic enemies brings to mind the artifice of it all and is consistently if only lightly distracting as a result. Much was made of Columbia being a living, breathing place, designed to be in stark contrast to the dilapidated Rapture, and while this is true to some extent, it's a shame that such little effort was put into making the world feel more alive than dead.

(*There's also, of course, the narrative, but in the interest of this being spoiler-free, I'll leave it alone.)

Overall, the fundamental problem with BioInf is that while it's a great experience, the mechanics it employs to fuel its gameplay aren't. I give it 3/4 Saoirse Ronan gifs.

They're not even harder, they're just bullet sponges. There's no real tactics to be employed beyond shoot at a thing until it dies. That is not what makes a difficulty harder, that's what makes any difficulty tedious.

On Hard, at least, the damage dealt exponentially increases along with their health and this only gets worse as you progress. It's ridiculous.

You just describe almost every first person shooter ever made.

Near the end of the game on one of the zeppelins, I fired 7 rockets into a guys face that was about 10 feet from me and he was still standing. He fired one rocket back and I was dead.
