Pretty much what i thought, you finally get to play the game at the settings that PC gamers have been enjoying for years. But as long as the XBOX 360 and PS3 are still on the market, forget about having a new engine.
I'm sure MS knows there might be a gap here, and will have their own next-gen exclusive stuff to show people the light, so to speak. For every third party game shown today I think they'll more or less have one (next-gen exclusive) game of their own.
I think first party publishing is going to be pretty important in the early days of these consoles, because third parties may not bring it.

You're gonna get a closed ecosystem with the new XBox. Might as well accept it right now. This is a smart business move on MS' part and is not a bad thing. Apple, Google, and even Amazon have hit it big with their ecosystems, MS is getting there with W8. Sony and Nintendo should follow suit IMO.
