It is not coming from gamers, either.

I love how MajorNelson was giving Sony shit for showing a ton of actual gameplay but not showing the console.

Guess MS went in the complete opposite direction, showed the console, didn't show any gameplay whatsoever.

I know which conference I prefer.

exact same thing to the original xbox 360 e3 where beautiful people were paid to cheer behind the big announcement.

I figured as much. Even the lowest of the fanboys wouldn't have been that ridiculous. And all doubt they were employees was removed when they suddenly turned silent after the CoD trailer. Right. :lol

I will say that the XboxOne reveal was a lot better than the PS4 reveal though. They at least had an actual console and a new I.P. to show. The PS4 event was pretty much just to advertise the 8GBDDR5 which I bet money is going to fail to live up to the hype just like the Cell.

What? Sony showed multiple new IPs and didnt bore me to death with bullshit TV stuff for approximately 40 minutes.
Sony had the better reveal

Rygar 8 Bit

Jaguar 64-bit
it was ballmer in the back with a cassette that had cheering on it that he would play every once in a while into a microphone

I said the same thing about the PS4.

Now, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that only console to impress me this new gen is the Wii U purely because it actually offered something innovative and new.

Both reveals were so bad. I really hope E3 delivers.

They showed a lot of games.

So you didn't actually know what the PS4 reveal was about.

......ASSIST OK!

They're right both of those reveals were terrible. The PS4 event showed a couple of games, mostly the same old, with the exception of Deep Down, and the Agnis Philosophy Again Demo was embarassing. But atleast they acted like they were focused on gamers.

The Xbox was just as bad, except this time they made it clear that they didn't focus on gamers. It was great they showed the console, but their vision was definitely more of what they did last gen with no goal to improve it.

It's the HD Twins 2: EB.

It just makes it easier for me to get a Wii U. But the extra press and the online activation fee I'm hearing about One is suicide. Good Fucking Luck.

Ahh, the sweet bitter tears of console wars.. These next few weeks are going to be a rollercoaster.

They're called plants, and populate most major press conferences. The obnoxious hollaring at every Sony and Microsoft E3 is exactly this.

Better than silence. I wouldn't expect objective journalists to clap even if they're impressed by what they're seeing.

So plants are necessary.

Yes I did. Well, for a most of it. I got bored and decided to just wait for someone to do a writeup for it.

From what I did see, the PS4 event was all about "showing off". They advertised their specs and showed some tech demo with prettier versions of the same thing that we've been seeing for 3 generations now. It was pretty much Sony flashing their genitalia to the industry again like they did with the PS3 and the Cell. Only they had far less to show this time.

This event gave something substantial even if it was boring.

Joke post?

They actually said a few days ago that this reveal will be about the console and that there will be (I quote) "tons of games" at E3.

Major Nelson was just full of shit.

No, you get polite applause, like you do at Sony conferences.
It's a worldwide entertainment reveal that happens like twice a decade, not a Golf match.

I want excitement, I want yelling, I want clapping, I want screaming. I want hype.

I always assumed the cheering and clapping I hear at these conferences were not from the press...

Exactly. Why do you want the press cheering? It's ludicrous where we are with games journalism.

And to take this at face value: if you worked hard for years on a project and got to go to an unveiling, wouldn't you be excited too?

I'm not suggesting this was innocent, but man are our priorities here way out of whack.

The success of others absolutely infuriates me.

I don't want that from the people reporting news.

Fantastical

Death Prophet
I think Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have all done this in the past (most recent years).

Sony has actually been the worst offender in the past, IIRC.

Well duh.

Still not as annoying and overbearing as last year's Playstation E3 conference press applause or not. I swear those people would cheer and clap like maniacs if a maintenance worker accidentally came on stage with a vacuum cleaner.

The PS4 event featured three new IPs, Knack, Drive Club and The Witness, and even actual gameplay material of the first.
