Kotaku: "Only 90% of Xbox One GPU usable for games"- PS4 GPU up to 66% more powerful?

Gamestop already said that the new consoles will launch at lower prices than the current gen did.

Just think about what DRM means for prices.

People are so used to being a on contract for phones, they can just leverage that consumer expectation and DRM and charge very little.

$199 plus 2 year contract @ $15 Month = $560

If you don't pay, the system becomes useless.

I'm starting to believe that Microsoft at least has to do something like that, they can't be seriously believing to sell their console for a premium price after all this mess.

If they were serious, they wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

I know this is kind of off topic, but it XBone seriously the abbreviated way you are supposed to spell the new console? Because that just sounds retarded.

PS4=Vegeta: Just looking for raw potential, focus on fight. Hard training to be at the same power level of Goku (sometimes he is), but at the end of the day he is just behind. His father was the king of the planet.

PC=Goku: Fighting since he was born, always ready to help the humanity. He has died several times, and resurrected as well, always at the top. His father in law is a "good-natured" bearded man. :)3).

XB1=Gohan: Was very powerful in his first years, now he wears weird clothes and uses dumb gadgets. (according to the prophecy from an old guy) he has inside some secret unlimited power.

Wii-U=Mr.Satan/Hercule: Scared from the rest of the fighters, although he usually try to show the opposite (confidence in himself), underpowered. Almost everybody trust him and enjoyed his past background, thanks to that, he will save humanity with the help of Goku and Vegeta.

Holy shit

Damn PS4 is just molesting the Xbone. Please Sony, make some magic happen and price it right. I can't stomach this industry if the horrific Xbox one system is tops :(

By far the most accurate assessment lmao.

Well done

$399 and none of the draconian bullshit would have me dancing in the streets naked.

We need to put these in terms we can all understand.
___________________________________

The PS4 equals 150 Gamecubes
The Xbox One equals 115 Gamecubes
The Wii U equals 75 Gamecubes
___________________________________

PS4 is obviously Majin Vegeta
Xbox One is clearly Namek Saga Goku
Wii U is Cell Saga Krillin

If accurate. This seals the deal for me. PS4 looks like it would be a fairly large upgrade relative to Xbox One.

Why did MS go with such weak hardware?

To save money. Plus I think a good chunk of the budget is spent on kinect 2.0 and packing it with the console. Like how The Wii u and it's tablet being probably 1/3 of the overall price of it.

It's not that Microsoft went for weak hardware (like others have said, the machines source their parts from AMD) it's that Microsoft has completely different goals for the Xbox One and the hardware choices reflect this.

It seems very obvious that Microsoft no longer considers Sony its main rival (nor the gaming industry its top priority) but rather Apple and Google.

I remember a Gaffer damaged his Wii U's pad and he posted the price Nintendo was charging him for a replacement. IIRC is was ~$140. Ridiculous.

What makes us certain that PS4 will be able to access 100% of its GPU (not talking about efficiency which is another ball game)?

And pertaining to the RAM amount for games, nothing has been confirmed. That said, it'll nowhere be near 3GB of Xbone.

the Cloud makes it 40x faster though

Or 400x faster, the sky is the limit with cloud

In the long run (2089 and later) xbox one will go ahead of PS4 for sure

I guess the cloud use will add another 10$ per day to any game for playing in the cloud, so games will add extra value !!!!

Xbox seems so amazing, people cant see in the future, that is all

The PS4 has a separate chip for encoding/streaming, so I'm going to say the GPU will be mostly or entirely free for game rendering.

ERP on beyond 3d said 10% is inline with expectation. So I'd say he is hinting that ps4 isn't far off, especially if it wants a slick notification / OS overlay whilst playing a game..

And encoding takes RAM, so expect a slight hit when everything is sharing a single pool (and hdd).. plus having your mate remotely assist requires resource.

Of course the PS4 has more resource in the first place, but people shouldn't get suckered into such obvious misrepresentations... its got an advantage for sure, so wait for the first multiplats before playing the numbers game, especially when architectures don't make that a totally equivocal exercise.

And, I can say that if the difference somehow pans out ass simplistically as people fear, ill be treating my ps4 to all the multiplats next Gen..

Who is ERP and why should we believe him? Man, this whole affair has random cats coming out of the woodwork. While the vgleaks stuff for both consoles wound up being true that doesn't mean we should take random people's rumors as legit.

If he hadn't posted a screencap of the total from their site I wouldn't believe it. A large chunk of the Wii U's price is tied up in the controller. I doubt the Xbox One's Kinect 2.0 is going to cost anywhere near that much, though. Holy smokes.

Well we already no that it has separate structures for functions not related to gaming, at least according to Digital Foundry articles I have read, can you bring evidence to the contrary?

Peaople are saying that PS4 can only use 7GB, but Sony dudes seem to keep saying they can use all eight, I don't know how they got that to work, but we'll see what's what come E3 time.

I look forward to readings everyone's distorted and misleadingly biased impressions of the games shown off for each platform at E3.

Prior to unveil DF expected both use 100% of their GPU "powah" while playing games. This new locking away 10% for "general usage" is new and given Sony have yet to detail this kind of information themselves accepting one or the other conclusion can be fallacious. That said, I am hoping that GPU resources (not 10% at least) are locked away in PS4 but rather be like PS3/360 where it's "on demand".

Well the Digital foundry article also mentioned a seperate "GPU- like compute module" that neither they nor anyone besides Sony knows what function it serves.

Maybe it helps with stuff like that? Who knows, really can't wait to see the black box and what's inside of it myself.

I really hope this power difference gets fully exploited by developers and this generation the PS4 gets all the superior multiplatform titles.

It probably won't. There's no incentive for third party developers to make one version of the game look and run better than the other. We'll see the difference in 2nd wave first party titles for both platforms.

Well why not? Isn't the objective to make each version the best it can be?

Hell, this generation Xbox 360 got all these superior console ports.

Why can't PS4 have the same?

Oh gawd,

I dropped my Wii U Gamepad the other day. Basically, I pulled my Gamepad up but the cord was tangled someplace. It managed to pull the pad right out of my hand with extra force, knocking it down about from waist level, onto tile floor.

Not a single scratch on the thing and was seriously surprised myself. I stood in place until I could look down to see the aftermath. I don't know what happened. The bang was loud and absolutely no damage.

The bit about RAM bandwidth ignores eSRAM though. Though it's maybe unfair to simply add eSRAM's bandwidth to DDR3's, I think it's also unfair to ignore it totally.

32mb of cache can't do that much for 5gb of data and 2GB of unique data per frame though can it?

Maybe negate the penalty for msaa or something, not much else.

Since when is Kotaku a reliable source?

Basically every Kotaku rumor has been correct up to this point, afaik?

Would the headaches that I occasionally endure with PC gaming be the 01's tendency to go berserk? lol

Headaches or not, PC is still worth it.

Do you mean literal headaches?

If so: FOV's almost always the culprit. Sometimes an unstable framerate and motion blur will do it.
