Thx guys!

Maybe they were never going to have used game blocking and are just egging this campaign on to reap the good PR that will come from "listening" to the fans!

That'd be perfectly fine with me. I don't care if they tell us they never planned on it, or that we swayed them or whatever. Just as long as there's no draconian DRM in the end I'll be happy.

Believe me I didn't use the word "us" at any time!

I did mention that in my view as an analyst that killing off used games seems like a poor business decision for publishers everywhere as it will mean less money is recycled into new gaming products. He actually agrees with me, but said that upper management at a lot of publishers are looking for scapegoats for poor financial performance. Used gaming is seen as an easy target.

Its all about the money in the end, the anti-piracy stuff is just smoke and mirrors

I suspect Sony will make the announcement of no DRM a key part of their E3 announcements. It makes sense really ... Sony has made it clear they are courting the hardcore crowd through what they have shown us so far.

Those wonderful trolls from Sony! :)

I'm starting to think that this campaign worked for #PS4NoDRM. Let's hope the same happens for #PS4USEDGAMES!

they're pretty much the same thing
I was just watching Game Changers where Mark Cerny was interviewed. One of the questions at the end was: "What are your thoughts on DRM?" And he answers by almost spilling the beans about the PS4, but actually says PS3 and talks about how the current business model of selling the game once and "not worrying about it" was working well for them.

I wonder if his view on the whole matter will be translated onto the PS4. Around the 1:10:30 mark.

That sounds great

E3 of the forever could become a reality soon, let's hope ;)

Me too.

Was chatting to a third party publisher that we deal with at the bank this morning for other business stuff, but I managed to get a bit of time in to ask about what they thought about the campaign, the contact acknowledged its existence. Said he was surprised that the campaign is against Sony because as far as he knew they weren't going to have used game DRM for PS4.

Maybe they were never going to have used game blocking and are just egging this campaign on to reap the good PR that will come from "listening" to the fans!
That wouldn't surprise me. Sony are already riding on a wave of positivity, so if they weren't going with DRM before they were probably more than pleased about this campaign having the potential to continue that.

If you guys haven't been doing it already, try tweeting developers and Playstation about how you wouldn't have gotten into their game if it weren't for borrowing, or buying used. Gets the developers thinking then too.

I know a lot of people have been doing it already, just though i'd remind people :)

E.g. I sent this one

@SonySantaMonica Got into GoW by buying 1+2 used. Went on to buy 3, HD collection, HD Collection 2, CoO, GoS, GOW:A full price! #PS4NoDRM

and this

@insomniacgames @PlayStation Without borrowing games, i never would have got into R&C + purchased every game in the series! #PS4NoDRM

The only remark I would make to the PS4NoDRM ribbon is that people temper their expectations. I hope that everyone acknowledges that PS4 will have DRM. The hope is that it is as non-intrusive and benign as it can be. I know that that is tough to put into an hashtag but I hope that there aren't people out there thinking that we hope that PS4 will be an Ouya.

If they don't have used game DRM at least, it will shut up those who say "if MS has it, Sony will have it. GUARANTEED" and stuff like that.

Yep, announce that the fans changed their minds, ride the wave of good PR all the way to the bank.

I don't think they'd go as far as stating that "fans changed their minds". They will probably talk about the fans passion for gaming, adding that this is what they were going for since the reveal. Which is ok.

I almost shit my pants when I saw the "Death Ray Manta" thread. Oh man, thats cruel XD

It gives me hope, though. Seeing the people from Sony and MS respond makes me feel like this E3 might be a great one for us. I really should keep my expectations in check but I cant help it.

Really? If I were Sony I would say the fans are what convinced me. It would be a coup for a company that's projecting their 'gamers own' PR on every available channel.

Oops, been busy and didn't get a chance to get on here. Got my banner on and ready to go... for a little bit at least. Thanks for making it.

Also could set a bad precedent of them getting Twitter-bombed every time they did something we didn't like.

...

Actually yeah, that sounds pretty great!

Absolutely it's free PR gold for Sony if it is true that they were never going for used DRM. I mean absolute gold. Every single news outlet will report that Sony are in tune with gamers and that in turn will see gamers flock to PS4. Opportunities like this come around very, very rarely and Sony would be insane not to take it.

Honestly, if they fail to take advantage of this opportunity that was HANDED to them on a gold platter, let alone a silver one, they honestly deserve to fail hard.

I don't think anyone expects that. But a hashtag is supposed to be short and snappy - fitting all of that into a hashtag would be pretty difficult as you say :p

If anyone would like a banner for their avatar let me know. I have a few minutes and can do a couple.

All credit goes to Toma. I'm using his banner to put on your avatar if you don't have a photo editing program or doing know how to do it.

and admit that they had planned to use "DRM"?
but the fans made them change their minds?

no that would be to show weakness.

They might use it to show how in tune they are with their customers though

I've been lurking on this page since the weekend and watching events unfold and I have to say this is truly one of the most awesome things I have seen on the web. I had to chase down my membership just to log in and say this. Well done, guys! Win or lose this has been amazing. This website is awesome.

Unfortunately I don't use Twitter so I can't tweet but I am happy to help out in any other way. I've spread the link to this thread around a few places. Let's hope we all the get the PlayStation 4 we've been dreaming about. Sony, the ball is in your court!
