Maybe they were never going to have used game blocking and are just egging this campaign on to reap the good PR that will come from "listening" to the fans!
Believe me I didn't use the word "us" at any time!
I did mention that in my view as an analyst that killing off used games seems like a poor business decision for publishers everywhere as it will mean less money is recycled into new gaming products. He actually agrees with me, but said that upper management at a lot of publishers are looking for scapegoats for poor financial performance. Used gaming is seen as an easy target.
Yeah, I meant acknowledges it publicly. He's not said anything even vaguely related to it up until now I don't think. It'd be pretty hard to ignore it.
Those wonderful trolls from Sony!
I'm starting to think that this campaign worked for #PS4NoDRM. Let's hope the same happens for #PS4USEDGAMES!
I was just watching Game Changers where Mark Cerny was interviewed. One of the questions at the end was: "What are your thoughts on DRM?" And he answers by almost spilling the beans about the PS4, but actually says PS3 and talks about how the current business model of selling the game once and "not worrying about it" was working well for them.
I wonder if his view on the whole matter will be translated onto the PS4. Around the 1:10:30 mark.
I suspect Sony will make the announcement of no DRM a key part of their E3 announcements. It makes sense really ... Sony has made it clear they are courting the hardcore crowd through what they have shown us so far.
That wouldn't surprise me. Sony are already riding on a wave of positivity, so if they weren't going with DRM before they were probably more than pleased about this campaign having the potential to continue that.Me too.
Was chatting to a third party publisher that we deal with at the bank this morning for other business stuff, but I managed to get a bit of time in to ask about what they thought about the campaign, the contact acknowledged its existence. Said he was surprised that the campaign is against Sony because as far as he knew they weren't going to have used game DRM for PS4.

Yep, announce that the fans changed their minds, ride the wave of good PR all the way to the bank.I personally think this is than likely the case.
@SonySantaMonica Got into GoW by buying 1+2 used. Went on to buy 3, HD collection, HD Collection 2, CoO, GoS, GOW:A full price! #PS4NoDRM
@insomniacgames @PlayStation Without borrowing games, i never would have got into R&C + purchased every game in the series! #PS4NoDRM
We've basically handed them the check. They gotta cash that in.Yep, announce that the fans changed their minds, ride the wave of good PR all the way to the bank.
Why are the industry's greatest trolls almost always related to Sony somehow? Goddamn.

I think I'm slightly more cynical about the gaming community having done free PR for Sony but yeah, at this point if they announce DRM they're insane. We've basically handed them the check. They gotta cash that in.
Seeing them have some lighthearted fun with it is giving me hope.

Really? If I were Sony I would say the fans are what convinced me. It would be a coup for a company that's projecting their 'gamers own' PR on every available channel.I don't think they'd go as far as stating that "fans changed their minds". They will probably talk about the fans passion for gaming, adding that this is what they were going for since the reveal. Which is ok.
Hopefully that tweet from Yosh is a sign of good things to come. Now what? #xboxnoDRM? I'm down with it!

I've been adding #XBOXONENODRM since this morning. No DRM is for everyone
Morning from est!
A ribbon would go great with my cup of coffee.
I will give much graduated and appreciation in return.
Absolutely it's free PR gold for Sony if it is true that they were never going for used DRM. I mean absolute gold. Every single news outlet will report that Sony are in tune with gamers and that in turn will see gamers flock to PS4. Opportunities like this come around very, very rarely and Sony would be insane not to take it.
The only remark I would make to the PS4NoDRM ribbon is that people temper their expectations. I hope that everyone acknowledges that PS4 will have DRM. The hope is that it is as non-intrusive and benign as it can be. I know that that is tough to put into an hashtag but I hope that there aren't people out there thinking that we hope that PS4 will be an Ouya.
