Best Buy: Xenoblade WiiU. X? or it's Reyn time on HD?

On new titles with no actual release dates they generally use December as a placeholder and if not that simply "TBA 2014".

You can speculate that Nintendo could have a holiday blowout but I can't be certain.

Have to wait till E3.

Why would Nintendo show in game footage of "X" and not have it release this year?
And why waste development time and hurt the sales of "X" by porting Xenoblade to the WiiU?

Nintendo has stated several times now they plan to release a lot of games after summer for this year. Im assuming they mean most of what has been shown or already discussed. The only way to convince gamers to consider the WiiU as a viable option, is that it offers more content than the upcoming competition, even without the full support of major third parties.

Nintendo needs to dominate the retail shelves.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I suspect X will be out this year in Japan. North America...possibly.

This seems to be like the only future 'announced' (sorta) game not available for pre order on amazon UK....

So far I have the following pre-ordered:

Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Splinter Cell Black List
Assassins Creed 4
WatchDogs
Mario Kart
Wind Waker HD
"Zelda WiiU HD" (yep, that's on there!)

That's far more than I'll have time to play* but you can add X to that list once it's on Amazon uk!

*just remembered I have DKCR 3D and Animal Crossing New Leaf coming too.....arrrrgh!

I dunno if they could pull of this between July and December:

- Wii Fit U
- Wii Party U
- 3D Mario
- Mario Kart
- Pikmin 3
- The Wonderful 101
- Yarn Yoshi
- X

1. i don't know. after pikmin, it's the next major wii u game we have footage for. nintendo needs those titles to be released ASAP. a title like this needs to be featured as one of their headlining games. we do have a precedent that it'll take them years to port it over here, so i can see why people would be hesitant about getting excited.

2. i don't know why people would think this. lock that game into the vault.

Lets assume that Nintendo realizes that there are different types of gamers that own WiiU.
Those that like Fitness and Family friendly games, those that like that Marios and Zeldas, and those that like mature titles.

Then what you have is:
Wii Fit U
Wii Party U
Yarn Yoshi
Mario Kart

3D Mario
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101

X

So, for those that like mature, action adventure, sweeping RPG titles, X is all alone.

Well, they will likely have Call of Duty, Watch Dogs, and whatever else to fill the gap for mature games. Who knows what Retro is doing. I sincerely hope it isn't Mario Kart, and we get a mature action game from them as well. Their hirings within the last year or two would not suggest they are working on a Mario Kart game as their primary project.

I know, but this is company that typically likes to publish one game a month, and usually leaves Dec/Jan empty, at least in the US. I also forgot WWHD. That's nearly 2 games per month for the rest of the year. Why pack it that tightly when you could move X and/or Yarn Yoshi (or whatever) to next year and potentially avoid a drought.

Qualifiers:
1. The 100 billion yen operating profit may mean that they launch everything that they can in order to get as many sales as possible. Releasing so many at once does mean the potential for some cannibalization, though.

2. They may have enough for next year to avoid another drought as it is between the other unreleased and unannounced Wii U games.

Yoshi Yarn is probably next year too. Wouldn't be surprised to see that a March release or something.

I'm still not confident X will make it this year in Japan. It could, but it could just as well be next year. I'm significantly less confident that it would not only be released in Japan this year, but that Nintendo would also go through the extra effort to do a near-simultaneous launch. If Xenoblade is any indication it's probably not a small localization effort.

I'm assuming, and I hope it's true, that they're releasing every single Wii U and 3DS game they have announced thus far by the end of their fiscal year 2014. So Bravely Default's 2014 would be around Feb/Mar 2014 at the latest.

As for Wii U:
August: Pikmin 3
September: Wii Fit U, TW101
October: Mario 3D
November: Mario Kart, Zelda WW
December: Bayonetta 2
January-March: X, SSB, Yarn Yoshi

It's possible. But I seriously won't be able to buy most of these, considering some more 3DS/Vita games are announced that I want.

This is wrong. I'm playing it now. It looks fine.

Looks solid on Dolphin.

Looks like a sea of aliased shit on every TV in our house running off the Wii.

Game badly needs a Wii U remaster, at 1080p if possible.

Remember that these announcements have been worldwide. So there's nothing saying that even if that was their intention, some of these games (especially X) might only get launched in Japan by the end of the fiscal year.

And you+StreetsAhead are right, that's filling the calendar a bit too much for this FY and potentially makes for droughts next year depending on what's left unannounced.

i could see x out this year if nintendo was collaborating with another company for localization. however, xenoblade hd would be more likely, and perhaps one of the reasons noa was dragging its feet on the rainfall games.

edit: huh, that description is interesting. late 2013 would actually be 3+ years since xenoblade, so it could happen, probably if noe did the localization again.

This is the PR release statement Nintendo recently gave:

Based on the strong lineup of upcoming software titles for both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems, Nintendo expects to return to Operating Income profitability by the end of the current fiscal year. During the next several months, Nintendo expects to launch new titles in the Mario Kart (Wii U), Super Mario Bros. (Wii U), Wii Fit (Wii U), Pikmin (Wii U), The Legend of Zelda (Wii U and Nintendo 3DS), Mario & Luigi (Nintendo 3DS) and Pokémon (Nintendo 3DS) franchises. These games, along with titles from Nintendo’s third-party publishing partners, will help drive hardware momentum and introduce new audiences to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS platforms.

Notice there is no specific mention of Bayonetta 2, X, Fire Emblem X Shin Megami, Smash Bros 4 and Yoshi's Epic Yarn.

The new games Nintendo revealed were never confirmed for 2013 in the ND January video except for Wind Waker Remake. The others have had no release dates given yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean some of them won't be coming out this year. According to Iwata, the currently updated software schedule for Wii U is mid-year through early 2014. Let's not forget that we have still been waiting for news on Wonderful 101's release date and I think Wii Fit U's as well.

Xenoblade came out in 2010 so a 2013 release happen without some sort of collaboration. I'm not expecting it this year though.

I'd imagine a collaboration would actually make it less likely, if they were doing it internally they could be working on localization while the game is still in development. Seems less likely that they would do that with collab, but not impossible.

And still way less likely than just doing the localization after the script is completely final.

Because many people, including probably Nintendo now, think that Xenoblade was undershot on the Wii as the hardware couldn't do the game justice.

I never got to buying the game in time, and I regret it. But this could probably sell me a WiiU, and I could say positive things about it, instead of taking hits at it.

What does taking hits even mean?

How long is Xenoblade? I have it, but the idea of 80 hours sounds like a nightmare. Is a month enough the finish the main story?

Hyped! I myself haven't been fortunate enough to experience Xenoblade. I'm looking to change that in the next couple months though. This new X game is definitely one of reason to get a Wii U.

I seriously hope they do this. I wasn't able to buy it because it's GameStop exclusive.
It was available directly from Nintendo's online store as well back when it launched.

On topic, this is a placeholder for X, whatever its final name will be, not an HD re-release of Xenoblade. Believing this to be anything else is only wishful thinking.

I played it for around 100 hours, but yeah, i think getting to the end of the main story can take 70-80 hours, because you spend a lot of time doing quests, collecting stuff or simply walking around. I guess you could save some time if you ignore building relationships to unlock "secret" scenes.

I would totally buy another copy of Xenoblade if it was remade on the Wii-U or just a simple resolution increase. I can already play it like that on Dolphin, but I'd buy a copy for the Wii-U, anyways to support the devs again.

I can't imagine X releasing this year, but maybe next year (Summer or Fall)? Hopefully it won't take too long for a localization this time.

I think Xenoblade HD would be a brilliant move. It would explain why NoA didn't want to release it yet, perhaps saving the marketing for the upcoming HD edition that serves as a precursor to a full blown or spiritual sequel. It would also serve as a super meaty RPG of already great graphical prowess and word of mouth on a fledgling console.

In my dreams, anyway.

If you ignore side stuff and just rush through the story you could do it in under 60 hours on the first playthrough. I remember a number of people playing it that way and posting 50-60 hours times in the OT.

Most people are probably going to be inclined to do at least some optional content, and the more you do the more that time is going to start inching upwards to 70, 80, 90, 100+ hours.

probably old but did anyone ever noticed the X game could be multiplayer?

What is this sorcery you speak of?

Yes, we know.

WTF? A nightmare? Dude, just start playing it, you'll notice it's everything BUT a nightmare. If you stick to the main story, do an occasional sidequest (when you feel like it), you'll probably end up with about 75 hours on the clock. Doable in a month (i did it in one month, but had to rush because at the end of the month, my firstborn was about to pop out).

axisofweevils

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Given the hype surrounding Xenoblade, I wouldn't be surprised if a special edition of X included the original Xenoblade. In fact, that's going to be one of my predictions in my E3 bingo card.
