I want to believe that this is coming, but i can't buy into the hype just yet.
There are like just a week to E3, if i have waited a hole generation i can wait a few more days before i go crazy in my living room.

I just hope for a PS4 version, i will play it either way, but i really see this as a huge move too make. The last nail in the next gen coffin, either way PS3 has to many good games coming. The Last of Us, Beyond, Gran Turismo 6.

Fingers crossed this is true, and far more like SOTC than ICO.

Why not both? At some point I would like to see a game in the Ico series that combines Ico's exploration, puzzle solving with SOTC's boss fights. Might as well throw more dirt on Zelda's grave.

(I Haven't been satisfied with Zelda games in a very long time)

I believe it will be a PS3 game no matter what. A PS4 version might come, but it doesn't seem practical to pull this away from the platform it's been developed on and wedded to for so many years. I do not believe a Team Ico game is a system seller. It's a somewhat niche title that will do best on a large install base. And it will sell well - better than your typical niche stuff and better than the last two games. But I just don't see this as a big PS4 title, even if it does eventuly get ported.

At least they are sending ps3 off with a bang and thats why i love sony.

i remember that i got ps4 and god of war 2 before the ps3, such a good decision by them.

If they really, honestly, seriously show The Last Guardian off at E3... Woah, I almost passed out there.

As far as PS3 or PS4, I just want it to be out on SOMETHING at this point. Cross-gen would be the best of both worlds, of course. I'll buy it for the PS3 if it comes out this year, and probably buy it again when I get a PS4 later.

Guess I won't be selling my PS3 before E3 then. Damn it Sony, I want to sell this thing before it loses its value. Stop flooding it with games so late what the hell are you even doing?

edit: What the fuck, I mean really. I was talking about this, Last of Us, Heavy Rain 2.0, and the SCEJ platformer. I forgot about Gran Turismo 6. I'm not even being sarcastic this is stupid and I don't understand why they're doing this.

4 years ago when the PS3 was in its prime and the PS4 was but a twinkle in Kaz's eye.

There's no logic in not moving it to the PS4 at this point.

70+ million userbase vs 0. There's no reason to move it to PS4. The game will be lucky to sell over a million units.

Is this possible on PS3? I hope it won't suffer from a technical standpoint.

lol I'm guessing you're never played SOTC for the PS2. The game is gonna be a slide show, and the fanboys will say it was made that way on purpose to give it a "cinematic feel"

But people just buying a new console will want games.

This game has a history, and looks epic. With a nice enough cover, it will sell quite a bit at launch.

Not a lot of sites reporting on this.

Its almost as if the game was at some kind of pre E3 event and they already know about it and are under a NDA.

While there is logic in it (more users), launch games actually tend to do better than people assume. There's less competition, and aside from that you sell your platform when it's most important and the reward is much greater down the line. Makes a lot more sense to have all of these big titles at launch, and they probably wouldn't lose as much on pure copies sold as you think either.

They're probably thinking they'll get the best of both worlds by releasing these games on both platforms, but in reality this makes the PS4 versions (and PS4) a hell of a lot less enticing than it could be.

Team Ico games never sell a lot. All of their games are Japanese niche games. The idea that somehow millions of people are gonna run out and buy TLG is so hilariously out of touch with reality. Sony wants the game to make a profit. They'll have a better chance of that happening being released on the PS3.

Or they could use it to attract the hardcore crowd that adopts new consoles early and instead of turning a profit on the software (which they probably would, because again launch games tend to perform better than you'd expect) the investment would be in the entire platform's success instead of just selling a single game.

Ico was a PS2 launch game and it didn't sell gangbusters either. For the majority of users, Team Ico games aren't blockbusters or system sellers.

This one better stays on the PS3

Shadow of the colossus was also a really late game for the ps2, right?

Sort of, 2005, 5 years after the PS2 was released, 4 since their last title.

If TLG was released this year on the PS3 it would be... 7 years after the PS4 was released, 8 since their last title. :lol

I think they should do both. First on ps3. Cause many have been waiting on it.
But personally, i'm tired of the hardware limitations and. Would love to play this game with less jaggies, better textures, etc.

LOL do you really think a game like TLG is gonna determine a platforms success? I bought a Wii U and I can't wait for Wonderful 101 to come out, but I'm not foolish enough to think the Wii U's current sales problems is because W101 hasn't been released.

These games aren't system movers. Never have been. It's nice to WANT the game on PS4 because you wanna look at the pretty graphics, but TLG (like the 2 previous Team Ico games) are gonna be a blip on the sales chart. Ico's games are niche, not hardcore.

I could live with that. But just completely abandoning the PS3 would feel like a kick in the balls.

I didn't say that it would or could determine a console's success on its own. The point is just that there's more to having a strong launch lineup than selling discs.

Swap W101 for Bayonetta 2 and I would bet that Wii U would have sold more initially, if only a little. Add Zelda HD (Gran Turismo 6) and the system might actually be more lively and have enough of a base for more support.

Hype for the game is 0 if it's not on PS4.

I'd have to agree with this. People want new consoles; this gen has gone in waaayyy too long. As great as it is for Sony to keep releasing great games for PS3, a lot of people have already moved on. Releasing this on PS3 at this stage would be a bad idea for a lot of gamers anxious to move forward. The last of us looks like an all time classic, but I stopped really playing the ps3 last year. I've moved on and I know I'm not the only one.

I told myself that I wouldn't look at the trailer again because it was forgotten and it will never come so their's no reason too. Now I can finally look at it again and be hyped... well if this is true that is.

Sony Santa Monica must have been putting in a hell of a shift to get The Last Guardian out this year; which is great for us gamers but pretty sad as well. SSM are supposed to help small indie studios with their games, not the crown jewel of Team Japan...

Well I don't think Ico was a core darling when it came out either.

SOTC didn't have much success either. I know some people on here think these games are the greatest things ever created, but the truth is they're not system movers. Masses of people didn't buy a PS2 just to play SOTC, but they did for GTA3.

I didn't say that it would or could determine a console's success on its own. The point is just that there's more to having a strong launch lineup than selling discs.

You have a strong lineup to move hardware. The disconnect hardcore TLG fans have is that this game won't move any significant hardware. It's not a GTA, Gran Turismo, or even a Killzone (which isn't much of a system seller). It's a niche game with a relatively small following.

Swap W101 for Bayonetta 2 and I would bet that Wii U would have sold more initially.

How did you come to that conclusion? Bayonetta sold so poorly that Sega canned the sequel. It's only happening because Nintendo decided to foot the bill for the port. Bayonetta 2 isn't the caliber of game to make millions of people run out and buy a new console, and neither is The Last Guardian.

and it had one of the most unappealing box arts of the generation. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if that actually turned sales away from it when it released.
It also released at a rough time (Silent Hill 2 release day, DMC was out, GTA III came out a few weeks later, then MGS2, then FFX). Many consider those 4 months one of the best stretches in gaming history. ICO got absolutely swallowed.

The Official PlayStation Magazine pushed the game hard (even including a playable demo), but yeah, it was Ueda's first real game and created a cult following.

SotC benefitted from that cult following, combined with much better marketing & stronger push from SCEI.

After SotC, a 'Team ICO' game is considered a legitimate system seller for Sony supporters (or even many gamers in general). Think how many disappointed people over the last few years have popped into TLG threads complaining about "I BOUGHT A DAMN PS3 FOR THIS GAME!!!!" :p

Well, going over the thread again, since we have seen this

Is the Last Guardian still a PS3 title?

Yoshida: I’m not ready to talk about that … sorry … we’ve broken promises, we are waiting for the right to time reintroduce the Last Guardian. I’m not going to say anything beyond what Ueda-san [lead designer Fumito Ueda] said.

That's basically the minority for now though...

I could see them dropping the ps3 to a super affordable price point come next week, all of a sudden they have a few million new customers that are suddenly interested in PS3 games.

I don't think it's this bad strategy that GAF is making it out to be so long as a console pricecut is in the near future.

If I were Shuhei Yoshida/Kazzy:

1) Price Drop PS3, Include PS Plus voucher
2) Add Ico/SOTC to the PS Plus instant collection in the months leading up to TLG
3) Release TLG

It makes far too little sense for The Last Guardian to be on the PS3 by this stage. Come on, PS4 or bust. I need to see that Team ICO splendour in all its next-gen glory.

It's kind of got a niche audience in this CoD era, no? I don't think the clamour for it exists to the same degree outside of places like GAF.

If that's true, going with the far larger PS3 userbase makes more sense, no?

It's like they want the PS4 to flop.

Congratulations, Junior. This might be the stupidest thing I've read all week, and that's no easy task with all the pre-E3 arguments.

You win nothing but my pity.

4 years ago when the PS3 was in its prime and the PS4 was but a twinkle in Kaz's eye.

Damn Pachter was right.

Why would you move a game that was mostly developed on PS3 to PS4 unless you could save costs by moving it? How would you make up for the costs? By moving a niche Japanese game to a new console with no install base? Lol.
