What would you consider to be enhancements then? Would you consider anything more than voice control to be too much or would you be fine with some mandatory kinect controls like waggle on wii.

A enhancement would be like instead of having to do a complicated button combination to order a squad you can just use a simple gesture.

This can work great in Rainbow Six style fps squad based games.

The Splinter Cell stuff was really cool where you can call for a guy to get his attention and route him.

Couldn't that get just as complicated if you have multiple orders to choose from and thus have multiple gestures, one for each order? Seems easier to just press a button and choose from a menu. Means you don't need to let go of your controller either.

Like I said this would be good for Rainbow Six style which require less speed and more strategy. As far as complication, no I don't think learning a few gesture commands would be very hard. It's more about immersion than the faster way of doing it.

For instance holding up your fist quickly can tell your squad to halt and find cover. Other commands are more adapted to voice like breach and flash on a door.

Other voice commands like install silencers or fire at will would be nice. These are actions that usually do not work well on a controller.

Some gesture stuff can be as simple as pointing supply drop positions on your field of view or map instead of to scroll with a analog stick.

Makes me think of a game called The Outfit which had so many different commands for equipment drops you would get lost in the UI menus.

Why you need to leave your controller when you are speaking?

Gestures aren't voice commands.

Yeah, I don't think it'd be complicated but would a button press be so much more complicated? I don't think it would be. And I think not having to take your hands of the controller all the time would be more immersive personally.

Immersion isn't always about what's easier but what is more engaging and realistic and in a situation like I described it would definitely be more realistic.

I think people seem to be scared of the idea of not having both hands on their controller at all times but there are some games where it is not required to do so at all times and gestures can come in play instead. Something tells me we are going to be seeing some gesture based quick time events in the future.

I want to be able to flick people off in GTAV make it happen rockstar.

I'd like to see some more commands migrated from places like the D-Pad into a gesture based or voice controlled environment.

Just imagine going through a game like BF: 4 and screaming at your AI squad to flank the enemy position while they get stuck on a wall.

Immersion at its finest...

Sad thing is, that'd actually add to the experience for me xD

I'm not scared of it I just don't think it'll be better, faster or more comfortable than just pressing a button.

Especially if it's combined with voice commands as i'm fairly sure they won't work with my crappy accent and it remains to be seen if they will ever support dutch.

You know we always talk about franchises Microsoft owns that we want to see come back... are there any that you want to never come back?

Or maybe only come back on PC?

I want to see a loooong break for Halo. The franchise deserves it.

They are still praising themselves because of Halo....they could make a new IP which gets as famous as Halo or maybe even more.

I would be absolutely fine with Halo 5 not releasing until 2015. As you said, it needs a break (even though I enjoyed the campaign in 4 immensely).

Word to the wise: this basically amounts to FUD, and any future examples will be dealt with appropriately. We have plenty of XboxOne shitting threads, and you already have a thread dedicated to this rumor, so no more derailing the discussion. Consider this a friendly public warning for everyone.

I understand you wanting to keep this thread clean, but in fairness, there wasn't a thread dedicated to the rumor when he posted that. The thread about the rumor wouldn't be made for a couple hours after.

Zombie MMO's are quite popular at the moment.

If they make an exclusive IP for the new xbox with an AAA budget they could beat Halo.

Imagine a MMO like DayZ but with less arma sim mechanics ala WarZ or State of Decay (but enough realism as it needs).

Imo this would be a seller.

I'm pretty sure a NeoGAF mod knows what threads existed at the time and he is correct there have been at least a thread dedicated to just rumors for a while now.

If SoD goes big it could probably sequel with a MMO.

I would love an open world but like Dead Rising and throw in loads of players. The custom building of weapons and items like Dead Rising makes the scavenging for stuff so much more interesting that finding 3 handgun bullets and some canned spam.

Dead Rising could really use some western influence for the mechanics of the game itself.

Aiming and the camera are still pretty clunky and above all they need to make the game real time.

Make it a true 72-hour game, that would be awesome.

given the opportunity above from modus,

while I approve all the shit aimed at microsoft for xbone, and I think given what we know it is also justified in a large degree,
I cant help but notice how people not interested at all (at least in a good way), go out of their way to cause even more turmoil.

my anti-xbone friends, there is really nothing you can do to microsoft.
you already are doing all you can, by not buying their previous consoles, peripherals, games and services. ok?

the only ones that can harm microsoft for what looks to be very very poor decisions, are the guys who are the customers of microsoft and xbox.
Their money will be missed, not yours since you aint giving them any.

so please, dont bust our balls by injecting more drama than necessary.

you probably dont understand it, but bottom line is that when you do that, you accomplish the opposite of what you hoped for, plus you make the forum a chore to follow for good information.

also, a word to the opposite site.. some guys would defend everything to hell and back.
stop this also. it accomplishes nothing positive. almost as bad as the blind anti-xbone stuff.

Noooo, keep DR as it is, but make it fun like the first game.

I'm referring to the aiming and camera which have been pretty terrible in the series and for Japanese games altogether for some reason.

Dead Rising 2 became way too silly, would love it to have the seriousness of the first game.

You may be right but if you're hoping for games like this to be completely Kinect-free you'll probably end up being let down. I think all games will have voice commands at the least and maybe more.

Voice commands could be pretty cool, say in a RPG if you want to activate a cooldown or want to switch auras, that has always been one of the issues on a gamepad, having to hold a shoulder button for a wheel to appear (hello Bioware) to then pause the game, switch ____ and go back in the game was always so cumbersome, i usually just did not bother.

Stuff like saying "minimap" or "map" in a GTA game or Red Dead could also work well without breaking up the action, in a sports game you can switch players on the fly without going through the menu -> team managment etc, just say "Switch player x with player y". Imagine if you could just ask the next MK game to show you say Baraka's fatality 2 command right when you beat someone, without pausing the game.

Its nothing revolutionary but it sure as hell makes things potentially work faster, less time spent in menus is always good. But if hand gestures are forced then i am not so sure about that, i just trust voice recognition more to work for these minor things than playing a game with my hands.

Wasn't sure where to post this, or if I should even post this, but I was told from a reliable source yesterday that on Monday we'll see an announcement for Trials 3 exclusive to Xbox One. Hardly suprising considering the success of Evolution. Also Ubisoft have two more next gen titles planned.

It could also be that, secretly, you're just upset that I'm going to make you get an XboxOne so you can tune my cars in Forza 5. This is happening.

hehe! first of all, I am always in debt for you fixing up my company's logos etc, therefore I can never be upset by you :))

then, as i stated the day of the reveal, because forza is my game, I'm getting this shitbox JUST for forza5,
but I'm also making sure ALL my gaming money (except f5) are going to pc/ps4/whatever.

The only chance I dont buy xbone at all, is if forza cannot function with the kinect eye(s) blocked.
I have addressed this question where I should, and i expect that when t10/ms will start talking about f5, I will get my answer.

And basically that would be the only chance of you not having to send over your cars to me :))))
ie. slim chance 8D

How do you guys think MS will innovate multiplayer and Co op again? They brought it to the masses with Gears and Halo so I'm wondering what's the next step.

Hrmm...getting some good quality voice commands would be great! I think the Skype stuff and video chat will come in. Some tactical shooter game with players swapped into the top right corners.

I do think their co-op stuff is going to be based around One, PC and Win Phone users. Some weird link between the 3 I am guessing.

Aye i can agree with those suggestions plus I think they're going to merge the single player and multiplayer even more, basically what's seen in the Souls series, although I expect they'll do thier unique take on the concept.

I think they will do something similar to Dust 541 does. Windows Phone and PC doing something in a version of the game and the One players run around doing something else. I can see this is something bigger like Destiny or even later on with Halo.

Personally I want to see how Kinect players into all of this. The advanced tracking for faces, heartbeat stuff etc could lead to some amazing games...hopefully. :D

Entire mechanics designed around button fidelity might present some problems when doing the same with Kinect?

You could have both in the same experience. I was thinking about it yesterday, while playing Metal Gear Rising. That's the very definition of an old-fashioned, "hardcore" game, based on sequences of buttons pressed with great accuracy. That's fine and there's no need to use a kinect for that.
But the game also has a mechanism that requires to slash a specific place of an opponent's body, and doing it with the proposed method (either have default horizontal/vertical slashes mapped to buttons, or painfully "aim" your slash with the right stick) isn't that great . Actually it was especially a chore in a boss fight, where you have to be very fast and precise with it, or lose some health.

Anyway, it was the kind of things that could be done much better with a kinect (fruit-ninja style). It's anecdotal, but that kind of things could expand the possibilities of gameplay, especially in place of all the QTE we already have.

I think the main thing we need to realize is that Kinect 2.0 is less of a toy than the first Kinect. It's a more mature device with better software and hardware that should be more precise, the main obstacle for it now is finding a good use for it.

Just being way more responsive should help edge it away from just begin a toy. Then it needs to games outside of the usual dance and mini-game collection.

I wonder what crazy non-gaming applications this Kinect will find itself involved in. Would love to see someone put one down a cave and map it in 3D.

This is actually a great use of Kinect. You could just remove your right hand from the controller and slash with your forearm in the air to make ~1:1 slices with the sword.

I tried the MGR demo and I found the free-slashing to be very unintuitive and complex, with Kinect on Xbox One it could be extremely simple to use practically without losing any accuracy.

Britt: Time Warner Cable talking to Apple, Microsoft, Samsung about streaming video deals

In March, Time Warner Cable launched its TWC TV app on Roku's Internet video devices, allowing subscribers to stream about 300 cable channels. "You should assume we're talking to everyone who makes devices like this, whether it's Samsung smart TVs, Apple, Microsoft," Britt said at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Telecom and Media conference. Britt's remarks suggest Time Warner Cable may eventually offer the TWC TV app through the Apple TV set-top and Microsoft's new Xbox One gaming console, which will debut later this year.

For the folks that can't understand that Microsoft isn't going to rely solely on HDMI pass through for handling TV content. XTV will live and die by these partnerships.

I just realised. This is the perfect opportunity for Bethesda to announce Fallout 4. I will loose my shit if it happens.

I was really hoping we would get some clarification from Major Nelson on some of the issues, considering he said he was gathering answers a couple weeks back.

Also, I wonder when we can expect that Forza 5 coverage gamespot was hinting at, they said "before e3."

What a shit night for the thread. I hope we can get back on track today and focus on what is important, THE GAMES!

Five days left and I'm still excited to see what MS will show us at E3. Here is my wishlist.

Crackdown 3 - back to basics with a new city

Banjo and Kazooie - modeled after the first game
