If Sony comes out with similar DRM/Anti-consumer measures ala MS, BUT they also show amazing games, will any of you boycott PS4?

Which would actually be good news since famousmortimer said that at last check Sony was leaning against that DRM.

I thought this was always the case TBH. The big 3 don't have nearly as much power as people say they do. If MS and/or Sony told them to fuck off they'd just have to #dealwithit.

Yeah. Basically it sounds like MS is the one that wants in and the publishers are jumping for the ride, not the other way around.

Hopefully this means Sony can do the opposite without hurting partnerships.

All I really care about is the always/online DRM bullshit. I do not buy used games. I do sell games, so I will have to be a bit more selective in my purchasing, though. I will HEAVILY research a game before purchasing and will not fall for GAF hype anymore.

Wow 3 days left, it seems yeasterday the Xbox One was unveiled and it was May 21.
I wonder if they're going to announce the price. Sony will probably follow whatever Microsoft is doing. If Microsoft delays their price announcement they're gonna schelve it as well even if they were planning to announce it.

they could so it but with no release date or anything? lol.

Yoshida said they're going to re-announce it only when they can commit to a final, definitive, release date.
With retailer rumors of it being released this holiday season...who knows.
If Beyond, FFXIV and The Last Guardian all make it to the PS4 launch.... OMG!!!! I'll preorder two consoles :D

I don't know, probably not. The PS4 will still have a LOT going on for it that could make me forget it - free online, PS+ goodies, digital game sharing, no online requirement, japanese exclusives, and so on.

I think that's the case as well. The main thing is that Sony isn't in the position that MS is in. MS has thrown out that billion userbase generation figure. Of course they say that's across all platforms, but they specifically noted that they wouldn't be able to get that big figure if they were just a gaming console. Sony on the other hand has made it crystal clear that gamers are their main target this generation. They'll have Netflix, Hulu etc., but the core gamer is their aim. And it's obvious how core gamers feel about DRM. MS seems to believe that upsetting those gamers won't matter because they're aiming for a much broad audience, while Sony doesn't have that same luxury. Their target is very specific.

I think Sony stands to lose much more by implementing Xbone DRM due to the Japanese market. If Sony killed used games over there, the shitstorm that would ensue would be HUGE.

I think the biggest thing is that Sony knows their audience. They want to play games, and they realise that the ability to share and distribute those games amongst ourselves is an important pillar for that audience.

They don't have the marketing budget to shove a pill down our throats like MS does.

They know the audience, how it works, what appeals to them, and how to approach the wider market from there.

Simply put, positive word of mouth is an extremely powerful marketing tool that in this day in age is made all the more powerful due to instant communication through various social media platforms. And I think in this day in age, with the behemoth the industry has turned into, people vastly underestimate its importance.

Does anyone know what the sound of 2500 jaws hitting the floor at the same time sounds like?

You soon will.

In a good or bad way? Getting nervous here.

They have said it doesn't require a connection, correct? So any DRM probably won't rely on a server somewhere like MS, right? RIGHT?

I hope Sony doesn't go the MS route, but if they don't what happens if the big publishers just refuse to release games on PS4? Won't the PS4 fail?

There are so many really frustrated devs at the moment who will be trying to gain attention for some damn amazing work over the next few days, and its getting drowned in (justifiably) negative shit.

If the industry decides to allow corporate wanks to throw handbags at 10 paces, then let them. Let's remember what makes us excited about working and playing in this field. Hype it up!

And let Nomura's Return be EPIC :)

Let's hope so. The Sony staff that responded to PS4noDRM seemed genuine in their responses. And as some have stated, it's really hard to believe that Shahid and Yoshida would straight up troll with DRM on Vita if we were about to get hit with something like that MS DRM on the PS4. That would be really shitty of them.

Anyway, today is the last PSblog updates before E3. This week has seen a lot of posts and a number of announcements, and they're already off today with Dying Light

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/06/07/dying-light-on-ps4-techlands-post-apocalyptic-playground/

I'm guessing that we'll see some more indie games announced today. I think it was mentioned that Sony showed off some unannounced indie titles at their Judges Day.

Big publishers are going to get their offline passes if they ask for them. Their games will be tied to PSN accounts through disc recognition, then if you want to use it on an other console you have to pay a fee. That's what has been hinted.
The good news is that probably that's the whole DRM thing and it will have an impact just on those games. We'll see though.
