PSN Plus needed to play online!!!

I'm conflicted by this out of principle, but I got 3 years worth of PS+ a while back that's waiting to be used and that will give me plenty of time to come to terms with it.

I'd expect most games to still be P2P, they're charging because people will pay it and MS has made such a mess of things.

Also I can't count the number of times paying for online has been turned into a positive by consumers throughout this past generation. "You're paying for it so it must be better." Really don't see why Sony wouldn't jump onto the paywall but was hoping they'd be more consumer friendly anyways.

I'm OK with this, as long as we don't loose any of the current offers. Judging by how Sony has been handling gamers lately I think that they would not backstab us.

Ok I can understand the disappointment because it was free before but its not big deal considering the console itself is $100 cheaper than the Xbone, No DRM bullshit, and better hardware. Just consider it a small dent in the back of a great looking car.

Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that only ONE PS Plus account per system is needed to play multiplayer online.

Question asked:
@yosp i have a question. If i buy a playstation plus membership to play online will the other accounts on my ps4 be able to play online?

I was just going to ask that. I already assumed so, but it's nice to have that confirmed.

I never play online, never had PS+, but all the perks (free games) of PS+ are kinda interesting and now that it transfers for PS4 I'm tempted to buy a year subs.

Clever bastards...

It's wishful thinking to believe Sony will continue giving away free games with PSN Plus with this new requirement. What would they be giving away at launch anyway?

The most likely scenario is that this will be Live Gold version 2.

I would have been annoyed a couple of years ago, but PS+ is just worth it in itself. I would buy it anyway, so I suppose it doesn't make too much of a difference.

I suppose a slight concern is what games we are going to get for the first few months (up to a year). I know they announced some games they are going to offer in the first year, but it wasn't the widest range. Though, I suppose you can't expect too much at first (for PS4).

I think you'll get more stripped versions of games, maybe remove the SP or MP depending on the title, at least for the first few months.

They called it 'Drive Club PS+ edition' which makes me think it might be gimped in some way compared to the full retail version. Maybe with some courses locked off as paid DLC. Otherwise there would be no reason for them to call it that.

Well it's presumably going to continue on PSV and PS3 with no online paywall so I don't see it being removed.

After finally Jumping Out I'm OK with this, much better value for money than the years of nothing I got for Xbox Live Gold. I mean I got quite a few points through Rewards but jack all for my Gold subscription itself.

Or they know that PS+ got where it is today by offering what it offers today?

I'm certainly not worrying about what will happen to PS+ now.

Well, at least this makes the transition less painful. It is just mean to charge for every single account in the same house with a single console but many users.

I hope they do not raise PSN+ price either

BTW, i see a problem for multiplatform buyers: till now only one subcription was tolerable, you owned multiple consoles but only payed for live. Now, if you own both and ant to enjoy online on both, you need 2 subs, that is quite a lot of money each year only in subscriptions

I've had plus since it came out, and I have been incredibly happy with it. I played a ton of games I never would have otherwise, and enjoyed the hell out of them. The idea of continuing this is completely fine to me =) I was planning on having PS+ anyways, so it did not sway my decision in any way. Preordered my PS4 after the conference.

PS+ is a great service and all, but I hate it when they make things quasi-mandatory like this (I know, single player games exists). I bet lots of PS4 owners would have gotten PS+ anyway. paywall is paywall

Yes, but now that you need it for online they don't need to offer anywhere near as much, you have no choice if you want play online.

I'm torn.

One one side, as I've said many times before, paying for online is inexcusable...

On the other hand, I already to pay for PS+ for all the goodies...

WHY SONY... WHY?! You could have had the perfect E3.

you never get everything, the console price is only 399 because now you have to pay to play online, overall the ps4 is a far more attractive offer especially when you factor in the better ram and the fact that the early 360's were very unreliable at best, welcome back sony.

I'll believe it when I see it.
After the backpedalling mess MS producer after the reveal, I'm kind of weary of execs spelling the beans.

People have to get paid you know. I thinks it's pretty fair for everyone.

I was so close to pulling the trigger on +, now it will feel like I am supporting this shit if I do. Conflicted.

Has it been actually confirmed or is this just poorly worded?

I think it was just poorly worded. All this is based on the last bullet of the slide that said, "immersive multiplayer online". It sounds to me like this is relating to the share button thing with the new get help from your friend feature, similar to the ps+ exclusive cloud syncing/auto downloading type features.

That's what makes it "immersive" which an exclusive feature to ps+. We need some clarification, my amazon pre order is in cart waiting.

sneaky for them to just drop it at the bottom of a bullet point list of why PS+ is so great. But I was going to buy drive club anyway, so thats the first year free, and there are bound to be deals before that expires.

I'm actually surprised by driveclub. Maybe they just want to bring a huge percentage of people onto PS+ in the first year to get online traction, and then they'll keep subscribing.

Personally for the IGC I'd expect more along the lines of indy games each month - I don't think driveclub is any kind of indication of the games we'll normally get. Its almost impossible to do anyway in the first year of launch, you need a back catalogue to feed off.

I'm probably more annoyed by the gaikai stuff rolling out 'from 2014, US only initially'. I hope they ramp that up quickly, I'd love to be able to access my PS3 Instant game collection on my Vita.

So i just gave it a second thought over the night (couldnt sleep well because of this)

In the end i just thought about what it is. Its PS+ and not Gold. You get a hell alot more than Gold. Free games,Ps3,Ps2,PS1 games from Gaikai, F2p games, online services. And i think they will not stop there.

So my complains where that i dont want to pay 60€ per year for online services. But then i remember those PS3 times where the download server just sucked like hell. Or the Hack-attack(we shouldnt forget that). This is something that needs money to bringt it to a good standart. And it only works with money. Better Security System, better Server etc. Money that isnt just 1€ per month. And you pay 5€ per month for 1 game + online + access to ps1,ps2 and ps3 games? Thats alot.

Then my other complain was that i dont want "free" games. I would regret buying a game if it shows up a month later. And having too many games are sometimes a bad thing (Steam Backlog... i look at you you piece of shit)

In the end it could also mean playing new games that are fun. Even trough you didnt know. I had one free month of PS+ and played Catherine. Im happy that i played it because now it sits there besides my other non-digital-games with its beatiful cover. You could Check out games and find out if they are cool or not. If they are worth the money now or later. So you save up your money better. Manage your gamebuys better. And i dont think Sony would pull out a dickmove and just puts Destiny 1 month after release on PS+. But what i want is Transparency on that thing. I want to know what i get in the next 3 Months instead of the next Month. And not owning those PS+ Games? Who cares? You could buy those again if you like them. If you dont think they are worth the money then just dont buy them. How i told you up there. You will know exactly whats worth the money and whats not.

Next Complains from others where. Why does nobody bothers with PS+ but everyone bitches about Gold.

Thats easy. One comes from a costumer friendly comp. And the other from a greedy one. No joke beside. Gold is only Gold. It was only Gold at the beginning and that was it. Access to buy more games. Access to play online. And that enough for M$. Sony instead gives you "free" games, cloud saves, psvita games, ps1ps2ps3 games if its right that they are doing this and online play. So from a money standpoint they are giving you TOO MUCH for your money. They are just asking for a bit. And its fair to give them a hand after what they pulled off yesterday.

That is what i think now. After sitting 4 hours sitting on my bed and thinking about this whole stuff. In the end it just a matter of perspektive.
