PS4 vs Xbox One console sizes - PS4 is small

I think this is the back of the PS4:

Looks like there's hopefully some decent cooling.

Jesus, it's a harmonica. Should stay cool.

I presume the air intake is actually the groove running around the side/front of the machine. If so that is exceptionally smart design

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Smaller system = smaller components = less heat.

You couldn't be more wrong.
More internal volume = easier to cool, all other things being equal.
And nothing's stopping anyone from stuffing huge chips into tiny boxes, except not wanting to have a 360 warranty situation.

Now, if you'd said the opposite, that smaller components and less heat can let you get away with a small box, you'd be right.

Spec sheets already confirm XBONE to be 65% larger than the PS4.

Also PS4 has no power brick, it's an internal PSU and this is TBD for XBONE.

I'm not sure how the PS4 can be so small. It's also very light at 2.8kg or 6lbs. Compare that to launch PS3 at 7kg or 15lbs... PS4 is only 40% of PS3 weight.

No power brick is far more important to me. Size isn't an issue to an extent - they would both take up one 'slot' under my TV.

However I like to keep all my cabling really tidy and just have a single power cord running out of the back of my TV stand if possible. Power bricks make this more difficult to achieve.

Ps4. All in one. Slot one.

AND it can stand vertically, which takes >100% less space than Xbox one.

Need confirmation on the PSU and overall wattage draw before making final determination. Still going off X1s fan inside I can't see the PS4 being a cool beast with similar components.

Front left. You can see it to the left of the ports

I'm still wondering if it's a feed drive or a tray. I'd assume feed, but you can't really tell from the shots.

Unless it's hidden on the bottom of the top shelf (which would be a good place for positive air draw) it doesn't look like it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bottom vents on back are in flow, the top vents on back are out flow, and the system can push all the air it needs via that alone. That is still about a quarter of the system's total body exposed for in in/out flow of air, more than any system I can think of.

The more I see the PS4, the more I like the design.
When they first revealed it I thought it looked a bit simple - but actually it resembles the PS2, only sleeker.

The fact that Sony managed to build such a sleek and small system (with built in power adapter!) especially compared to Microsoft is pretty impressive.

It really seems like Sony did everything right with the PS4, and as a hardware company they obviously have the expertise to design great products.

What's the far-right port?

That's the PS Eye port.

I'm pretty sure the fact that the Xbone has an external power brick has already been confirmed: We've even seen it.

now,i wouldn't be surprised if the xbox1 is louder.

the xbox1 apu is bigger, maybe the ps4 has a smaller fan?
if anything, the last weeks showed us that we cant make assumptions.

Doesn't the XB1 have a huge fan inside? Would run at lower rpms so it'll be quieter
