I wouldn't mind them releasing a DLC from her point of view or something.

IF this game doesn't end up being completely balls.

Unconscious but I found it funny.

I think there are still very interesting ways to make DLC for RPGs. Different perspective would be a really cool one as long as it's not overcharged. =/

I wonder if the character portraits in the HUD are gone for good.

Looks like they name the short haired guy.. Col Leonis? Something like that.

It was mentioned earlier that it's probably Cor, as in Latin for "heart".

Hope somebody can type out the character descriptions. All I can reliably read is that Prompto is a school friend.

On exploration/World

These two were discussed shortly after one another (airship after world map) and I'm guessing the FF games were something like FFVIII to FFXII, as since then we've seen that the world map is indeed like XII, so whether airships are still in isn't clear, perhaps it does go into a traditional top down world map when flying the airship.
"For displaying characters on the world map, we were originally planning on using the method used by FF#, with a small Noctis running about on the screen. But that didn’t look too great, so we ended up switching to the method used by FF#,"

“But, you can fly on the world map with an airship.”

.

Did he just confirm controllable airships?
....... because I think he just confirmed controllable airships!

Haha of course it's different, you must have forgot the 2011 trailer with all of the glass skyscrapers and motorways ;p

My guess - this city = Noctis's place, it is attacked by the creepy looking guy who summons Leviathan to destroy it and take the crystal

The Tokyo-like place is Stella's hometown, and after being attack Noctis and team travel there which eventually leads to them both meeting (in the scene where Noct is wearing the tux)
It's the other way around. Tokyo = Noctis' kingdom, Venice is a neighboring one.

I remember them mentioning the party where they meet (again, since they seem to be childhood friends) was related to signing of a peace treaty? Maybe that was in Niflheim?

Indeed.

Just that some people initially thought they ditched the modern setting altogether and well full on fantasy!

They were supposedly in Final Fantasy Versus XIII, we are not 100% if they will be in Final Fantasy XV (seems like they've retained everything from Versus, but we weren't even 100% how they'd work in Versus, let alone this next-gen version now).

Cole Rionis is probably Cor/Collum Leonis assuming all of the Names are Latin-based.

Collum is neck whereas Cor is heart. Leonis is lion.

Edit: I just realized. If it's Cor Leonis, it literally mean Heart Lion. FFVIII reference. lol

.....and fairly certain character switching is still in.

Yeah, if older info can still be applied then it's basically;
-Three party members in your team at any given time
- Can switch between each on the fly
- Switching between them you are able to chain combos with different weapons, and your combo count is sustained between switches
- Prompto has a gun for aiming at weak points
- Gladiolous is the tank with the big swords to destroy armor and offers party defence
- Ignis has throwing knifes and support magic
- The idea is to swap and string together the different types of weapons to effectively fight enemies - but the player has the option to stick with Noctis (who has all of those styles of weapons in his own arsenal)

Stella is voiced by Minako Kotobuki; I'm good with voices, you can trust me on this.
I've checking what Japanese people think about it, they seem to agree with me.

I think it would be more constructive to stop attacking fujoshi and consider your own complete thrill at the yuri in 13. You're not better than what you deride.

What? I want them to pander to me, not to not pander.

I think what they show in the gameplay trailer actually is Tokyo but in daylight. There are signs of modern stuff which is what Noctis's hometown conveys. Noctis's hometown is supposed to a riveting city that is beyond the modern technology thanks to the crystal while the other cities are still stuck in a fantasy/medieval setting because they don't have the crystal.

Every FF game has had both genders in the total party count, I don't think XV will be changing that. I'm pretty sure both girls will be in the party at some point.

Well, yeah, at least for me. :p

I just don't get how they got チェラム out of Caelum... Do they have any idea how latin is pronounced?

Of course I know that, I'm not new to Japanese. :)
In the case of Cerberus, it's relatively close except the K and S sound mixup. But in the case of Caelum, changing the K sound into the Ch sound is really stupid, among others.

Man, if every language had the same sound system as my language, no one would have trouble pronouncing any sound in any language... :p

They're not really wrong with using the "ch" sound instead of "k". Square has always use the "Italianized" form of Latin -- this is what you hear in the Catholic Church, when they still use Latin -- and so the 'c' isn't always hard as it is in Classical Latin; it changes to a 'ch' sound before i or e. 'Ae' has merged with 'e' in modern Italian, so the first part of the word 'cae' becomes 'ce' and is thus pronounced チェ; in fact the modern Italian word is cielo チェロ (the final m dropped off, and the u went to o).

(Before my single year of studying Latin, I thought the Italian pronunciation was the "real" one. If you ask the average person in America, at least, to say some random Latin phrase, they'll probably use this pronunciation. Veni, vidi, vici and requiescat in pace, two phrases known to everyone, are always said in the Italian way where I come from.)

The part that's genuinely wrong is the 'a' near the end; it should be チェルム cherumu and not チェラム cheramu There's no way that that 'ru' should be a 'ra'l not under any circumstances.

TL;DR: Caelum can be either カエルム (kaerumu, Classical) or チェルム (cherumu, Italian)

Dude, you're talking about a language where Cerberus is written as ケルベロス. Japan has a history of "interesting" adaptations of foreign words. :p

ケルベロス is actually the original and best form of this word. It was Greek before it passed into other languages, and Κερβερος / Kerberos goes into katakana as ケルベロス perfectly. Not until the Romans changed the final -os unto -us, and then the other European languages started messing with it further, did we get the unusual English pronunciation. I've seen "Kerberos" in English too.

I can't help but wonder if Nomura and crew actually intended to use the correct Latin words for their character names, only to have some ignoramus marketing droid arbitrarily change the names because they thought they might sound hipper to the 17-year-old-Japanese-boy crowd that they covet. Wouldn't be the first time that corporate suits have shown their ignorance of an artist's vision.

Which is ironic considering Noctis' family fights with swords and the other side fights with guns.

The good thing is the name says a lot about the characters so it's quite easy to figure out stuff. I think Ignis' name might be a reference to the first fire of man which gave knowledge.

That was more of like hitching a free ride on an airship, not sure if you can actually control one since Nomura hasn't confirmed it in a while or really talked about any kinds of specifics about them. I mean, it's obvious the tech should be able to handle it with Noctis already shown on an airship high in the sky. I do hope so but with so many questions about the actual nature of how the transition between cities, fields & places goes, we can't be sure how all of this will work. I mean, previously it seemed the game was made out of some number of super-large areas + a few big cities, so the world wasn't completely without loading screens. So how would airships actually work, when we don't have a world map like FFs of yore?

Nah they're completely different.
The newer one is surrounded by waterfalls and European architecture - the night time show is clearly modern day Tokyo inspired.

Considering the Shakespearean influence in the game I actually am not surprised about the Latin naming scheme for the characters. Specifically meaningful naming scheme. Nomura probably went to bed thinking "What's in a name?" and realized that character names should have actual meaning. Lol. This is a serious comment btw.

Actually, their names might be related to their corresponding jobs like:

Noctis - The dark hero
Ignis - The magician (who specializes in fire probably)
Gladiolus - The bulky slow but strong swordsman (who's probably kind and shit)
Prompto - The fast gunner
Cor - The regular joe I think. I can't seem to associate Lionheart with anything except for a king and Squall.
