The Witcher 3 supports new fancy Nvidia tech.

I thought the wolf with the fancy effects looked worse. It didn't look real. I thought it had some kind of energy shield over its fur. I liked the way the fur moved but the overall effect was weird. I think it was the sheen from reflecting light that I was noticing.

I hate that stance, sorry but I do.

"Oh it doesn't look real", same with TressFX, same when one of the companies show off a tech demo for water or something "Oh but it doesn't look real" - So. what?! Currently we have NOTHING or something incredibly ugly and static. Water is just 2D surfaces in some games, we have NOTHING in terms of these technologies and when someone finally implements it, when someone finally does a job of improving it tenfold it's just "Oh it didn't look real" -- So graphically and technologically we can never please anyone or progress anywhere because if it doesn't look real, why not stick with an ugly 3D model with average textures because the massive step up isn't 1:1 with real-life.

It looks amazing.
Also, does this mean the Xbone and PS4 versions will have the furless wolves?

Anyway, hopefully my gtx580 will be able to handle the game.

What. Are you kidding? That's seriously fucked. Crysis 3 cannot look that good that you would need so much power (there is nothing better than TITAN right now isn't it?) That is seriously 'cked up... I see nobody talking about Crysis 3 graphics. o_o

Because Crysis 3 does more things than any game from E3 from tech perspective. They also push more than 10m polygons per frame in some levels on Very High settings and thats without tessellation.

Where is full nvidia presentation? There new talk about DX11 features and Hair etc.

Yes, I am crusading for this technique to be banned until such time that the human brain cannot distinguish from computer generated content and the real thing. Jesus, its like some of you didn't even read my post.

We did talk a lot about it, but we also try to forget the game.

Read your post? You said it was WORSE, you said "It didn't look real". No one was talking about crusading or you calling for a ban, you are just making that up but the fact that you are calling it worse looking and that it doesn't look real is a travesty and especially the not looking real point leads back to my post; so the fuck what, not sure they claimed it was going to be a 1:1 match with real-life however it's a huge step in the right direction.

Its called an opinion. Deal with it?

People saying that it "moves too much" or some such thing must not have watched a dog with longer hair run. It's really a pretty good approximation.

Well then, what's so awesome about TXAA?
It has the best motion stability and temporal aliasing reduction in its performance class.

Looks great. Stands out a bit on a wolf but a golden retriever with a well groomed coat would look something like that. Need more anthropomorphic-lead mascot platformers to use this in.

Oh wait that genre is an endangered species.

Fine I'll take giant Dark Souls bosses!

Oh wait From Soft is Japanese and not Capcom.

Fuck.

Will this be AMD compatible like TressFX is compatible with Nvidia cards?

Or will it be another PhysX exclusive clusterfuck?

Probably the latter. Which sucks cause I'm stoked for Witcher 3 and don't wanna be limited with my AMD card.

If they had ported PhysX@GPU to something other than CUDA they would have said that by now.. (eg when they announced PS4 support).

So the answer likely is "if you have a really strong CPU you might be able to handle it. Somewhat."

There's also the chance they won't give you the option to run it on the CPU at all, but I doubt it.

Right now I'm wondering if the press demo they shown at E3 already included these features.
While generally impressive, there were a couple of spots in the gameplay trailer where hair/fur on armors didn't look that hot, so I'm guessing the answer is no.

APEX hair predates TressFX by over a year.
Nvidia so salty they even copied AMD stuff twelve months in advance.

Don't say that!!

*hugs 660 Ti* shhhhh it's gonna be fine you'll do great

Edit: Just saw Dennis' gif, goddamn that looks almost photorealistic. Real fur, at long last...I could see myself sacrificing other options to run that fur, looks miles better than TressFX.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU.

I will force this on my AMD card.

The game is a year away at best. You could put a few bucks away each day and upgrade when the time comes, even less if you just want to upgrade your GPU. :p

These things take up too much resources. Why won't they make a Chip where effects like this are rendered on additional dedicated areas of the GPU that don't affect the overall performance. Like a DSP. I don't know much about tech stuff, I might be far off on this one.

Damn just when I was considering jumping back over to AMD (Nvidia's divers have been pissing me off lately, since I have a 560 Ti I am forced to use months old drivers if I don't want constant crashing) my most anticipated game leans heavily into Nvidia PhysX...

And I don't suppose that they will have Maxwell ready before the Witcher 3 ether...

You can add a second card for dedicated PhysX, still has a performance hit tho

Damn. That is seriously impressive. I really do wish Nvidia would be less restrictive with their tech; I love how AMD made TressFX compatible on any graphics card (though it does run notably smoother on AMD due to compute power).

I'm most likely going to buy an Nvidia GPU regardless of that, but yeah, I would like to see Nvidia opening this proprietary crap, for the sake of everyone in the gaming industry.

It runs like shit on my Titan, so it isn't a compute issue solely. Maybe they unlocked it so people would buy an AMD card?

GTX 670 am cry ;_;

Listen to me goddamnit, you get another 670 and oc that motherfucker. I got two gigabyte 670s and I can run with a Titan and 690 no problem and in come cases I can get more fps than a 690 thanks to the fact I oc'd both and my 3570k is running 4.7ghz, soon to see how stable 4.9ghz can be.

FXAA is definitely a typo for the Witcher. Any game can use FXAA on any card. TXAA actually requires the devs to configure it.

Pretty sad after seeing what the PS4 can do. PC extremeists will pay 2x money for 1/2x the power of a console.

The titan is already 3x more powerful than the ps4, and if people don't want to buy a titan then there's the option of two 660ti's which would be 2x the ps4's power or two 670s so the gap in power ain't 1/2x. The ps4 has some nice games sure but there will be cut backs in those multiplatform games in comparison to pc. Consoles wont have games that run equal to the pc in visuals.
