PlayStation box looks like a toy with the controller buttons on the side. Like Xbox one box better. It looks really slick. But to each their own.

While the Xbox One box is sleeker and sexier, it's very serious and definitely conveys the set top box image.

Whereas the PS4 box is playful, lighter and definitely seems more gamer-centric.

I must go and design my own now..

It's an interesting industrial design to me. I love that it is not 'just a box', the angular design and split top and bottom halves will make it look 'slimmer' in a home theater or shelf stack - like two slim items, instead of one 'fat' item. On the other hand, the angular look is a little more off-putting in practice (in pictures at least) than the theory would indicate- not sure why. I also like the integrated PSU and the two tone finish. Not sure if the glossy top will work well. The PS3 was a slightly more polarizing but ultimately more impressive design at launch, this feels more low-key, more practical but just as true to the history of the playstation design (ignoring the PSX) as the previous 2 consoles.

In terms of industrial design success - where the Nokia N-gage is a 1 and the iPhone 4 at launch is a 5, I give this a 3.5 - 4 (pending a close up examination in real life).

I am slightly amused by the MS box that says "XBOX ONE", but features two pieces of hardware and a controller on the front. The PS4 box looks rather basic and cheap.
