Does Sony need to respond? If so, how?

Please note that I am posing a question, not giving a statement.

Obviously today's news evened the playing field when it comes to used games and online policies for both of the next gen consoles. Sony made a clear point of emphasizing all of the things Microsoft announced today for their box, which ate up quite a bit of time at their presser, and also gave them the lead when it comes to public image, word of mouth, etc.

Now that one of Sony's main advantages over MS is gone, do they need to do anything about it? I'd love to hear what GAF thinks. I personally feel that, despite today's announcement, Sony is in a good position for the launch of the PS4 this holiday, albeit slightly less dominating when it comes to bullet points over the competition.

Sony doesn't need to respond.

Something as simple as we thought that route was wrong then and we think that route is wrong now is all that's needed.

Today did not even jack or shit.
Playstation 4 has better hardware, better price, and better PR going their way right now.
They need to keep doing what they are doing.
You do not respond to every little twitch that your opponent does, especially when you are in the favorable position.

Nope; even with Microsoft's 180 on DRM, the damage has been done. Not to mention that it still has mandatory Kinect, is not very indie-friendly, and still $100 more.

Not really the price is still a huge factor. Regardless of Microsoft dropping all the restrictions am still buying a ps4.

wut?

they are cheaper out the gate. dont force a camera on you and vendors are still taking preorders. add game sharing is gone on Xbone.

Nope. Sony still have a huge upper hand. The price.

The cheapest console won every generation. This tradition will never change.

Sony needs to hit back hard. Do the whole "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me".

Sony can't let Microsoft get back all of the people they lost by acting like all of the sudden they are heroes for removing DRM.

No? They've just had MS basically say that the Sony path was the correct one all along. No response needed.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
As another has stated, the best answer is no answer.

Since acknowledging that MS did something correct is a sign of showing that they perceive them as competition now.

They know pretty damned well that MS has dug themselves into a huge ass hole and doing some last minute switch-a-roo like this isnt going to save them instantly.

They should probably announce a few more exclusive games, since their position is now significantly weaker than it was yesterday and their launch lineup is kind of shit.

They'll still do fine at launch because of the early adopter tsunami and they still have a price advantage, but the PS4 won't decimate the Xbone anymore unless they really pull out all the stops with key exclusive software.

No. They lead here. MS followed.

There's nothing to do here but for them to continue to compete on more conventional fronts.

Well, right now, MS has the upper hand in terms of announced first party exclusives, perhaps Sony could unveil more of theirs? Please :)

I'd love to see them turn tail on the paid multiplayer, but it'd make them look weak if they did. Personally, I want that, but I think it'd be a poor business decision.

They should just congratulate MS on following their example.

All the time they are still $100 cheaper I don't think Sony will do much. They need to continue the good run they have been on though and now have a stronger opponent than an hour ago.

BETTER LINE UP.

There, I said it. It was lacking from the get go but all this DRM hoopla was distracting us.

Also, drop the PS+ paywall for MP

Sony still has the $100 price advantage but the DRM backpedalling has leveled the playing field a bit.

Sony still has the cheaper and more powerful console, just keep driving that home. They lost a bunch of XBox brand loyalists today, but nothing they can say will really change that.
