Persona 4: Arena |OT| Midnight's Just Around The Corner

I dont mash and I get hit by it all the time. My general confirm is A, A, B, and with mitsurus slow ass normals, by the time I realize the hit is coming it's usually already too late. Even if I bait it, I get super punished. And even if I bait the super, it's safe if she has 100 meter. This isn't a problem if you're a tourny player as you would have the reactions to stop your confirm early, but I aint about dat life. :(

Labrys' DP has 26 startup frames without it being charged, possibly making it the slowest DP in the entire game (other than Liz, but the properties make up for it). I guess I'm speaking anecdotally from my experiences, what I've seen and what I've heard from Lab players, but it's insanely easy to react to. But yeah, like you said, it could differ from player to player.

As said, I really could stand to have more experience to determine how right or wrong I am about how viable she actually is. If I were to guess, I would probably have the most trouble against Mitsuru at this point, mainly due to lack of experience with that specific match-up. But, since onemic mentioned playing her, it shouldn't necessarily be any more impossible than any other fight.

I'd say everyone's viable.

If we're having a lobby, I'd like an invite as well. PSN's FluxWaveZ.

Coming on. Sending invite.

Edit: I wonder if my lack of sleep will fuck me over playing.

Edit2: Whoa, what's your upload seed FluxWaveZ? We had a better bar last time when you hosted :(

Edit3: :lol, FluxWaveZ, you play so disrespectful with that AoA when you use other characters.

Probably. I'm west coast and you're like EC Canada or something, right?

Edit: I'm free to overheads today

Our games are usually solid and I'm in Toronto. That and you guys already know about my infamous ISP problems. :p

I can generally react to it if I'm expecting it to come out, so in those cases I stop my confirm early, and try to punish the DP. In the cases that I'm not expecting it though, it almost always ends up hitting me. Then again, I haven't played a Labrys player in over half a year, so its possible my reactions have gotten better since then.

Your problem is being wireless and getting those infamous lag spikes! Ask TWILT :p

Edit: Yup. Horrid D. I can't even block right.

Edit2: ugh, that glide drop

Edit3: I'm so, so bad

Edit4: I think one of the worse things about P4A is the lack of display inputs on replays. It would be so, so helpful.

Edit5: A dime for every dash cancel I fuck up. Ugh

ggs to everyone

I did not realize Naoto's sweep only had an 8 frame startup. Can't believe how much I have to smash 2A after 5B on block to get the frame trap.

ggs guys. I totally said "let's sneak some P4A to get my ass kicked while I wait for my ride."

I was totally right. :(

Well that was pretty close to what I expected.

I have nothing to answer that j5B (I think). My anti-airs don't reach high enough. :/

Playing BBCSEX last month really helped me there. If I hadn't I would have been fumbling around just trying to remember the basic controls.

And after all this time I still use DP as a panic button.

Overall, good matches. I need to figure out some good blockstrings though since my only good one doesn't actually count as one since you can DP in the middle of it. And I still need to get down those old 7k burst combo's I had memorized the last time I played.

ggs poorfate....vanilla cake....argh. You didn't seem rusty at all when we played :p

Ya, forget everything I said about Labrys DP and being able to react to it as mitsuru. You straight up can't. Her normals are too slow and you get hit by it every time if you pressed a button before the animation.(exception being if you are simply doing a poke with 5A) Only way to deal with it as her is to simply predict and bait it.

I am still free to that DP, but I was able to figure out when you would do it and bait it quite a bit after the first 4 or 5 matches we had. You rely on that DP wayyyyyy too much though, and even though it works on mitsu, if the opponent learns your patterns, the match will be over before it even begins. I don't really remember my 5B fatal counters that well which is why I never used it to punish those baited DP's, but the recovery is enough that if I predict and bait it I can do a fully charged 5B FC combo on you and pretty much take off 60 - 70% of your life and 25% of your meter in one go.

Sometimes I forget mitsu even has a DP. The recovery on it is so shit, I try to almost never use it unless I go into YOLO mode. I don't think I ever DP'd in between any of your block strings lol

Normals can be cancelled into her DP when you see Labrys' predictable DP coming unless you continued attacking during the Labrys DP startup animation.

If you're saying her DP can't be reacted to, I'm curious whose you think can be.

I'd be up for some games of P4A tonight if anyone on psn wants some. Fair warning, I'll be extra free because I hardly played this game. I'll be playing blazblue to explore some characters but just send an invite and I'll switch right away.

It's funny you say that considering an Akihiko I fought on player match shortly before I stopped playing.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but he predicted/baited every single DP I did. And not only that, but he countered it with his own DP and knocked me out of it into a high damage combo every time. He also got combo's on every jab he landed whether I was in the air or not. I couldn't believe how good his execution/reaction time was. I wish I had his /her name because even though I was completely obliterated I would like to play against him/her again just to see if I can a single round at least.

Even after experiencing that I still mash it out of instinct. :/

Bad habits die hard.

I was kind of surprised that you didn't DP my "blockstrings" considering you did it when we played months ago. I'm assuming that you forgot but it's between 5A>5B.

For some reason I feel like trying out Yukiko. Up until now I've only played Labrys online but the urge to try something new is bubbling to the surface. Of course I won't give up on Labrys, once I get through my 3 major issues with her I think I'll be in a much better position to play.

Those 3 issues being 1) DP abuse 2) real block strings 3)high damage combo's (besides red axe ender).

oooo, never tried this. I don't use mitsu's DP enough.

no one. It's only hers because it's so damn slow and has armor.

GGs onemic. I think I didn't do too bad since these were my very first matches ever on P4A. I only did the tutorial and some challenge room. I didn't remember half the time my special moves so that didn't help either haha.

Having played probably only one other Shadow Labrys online before today, I had absolutely no idea how to approach that match-up.

ggs guitarguruu. I'd recommend sticking with Chie, as she seems to fit your playstyle the most out of all the characters. That and she's piss easy to get a handle of.

Yeah you too, haha she does seem pretty simple, I'd like to try and master a more difficult character but I suppose that'll just come with time.

Hey guys, first post on NeoGAF. East Coast Aigis user and need some serious practice. It doesn't help that I'm transitioning from pad to controller. D;

Yea I added you, also sorry left the request blank. I'll play with you, probably out of practice since I've been trying to learn Carl in BB.

From the geekgaf thread.

Not sure if I want this for the price (12800 before discounts). She's big (250mm), but not huge. Maybe if she was 300mm she'd be worth it. But she does look better than Megahouse's Rise, and that was just as expensive. Hmmmm. I'm weak for anything Persona, maybe if she comes out in a light month (mfc says August).

Preorders start tomorrow.

Now, maybe if it were Elizabeth...
My thoughts, exactly.

During my last trip to Japan I stumbled upon this...

I was planning on using the Elizabeth one on my phone or on my wallet, so as to display my main character in the game, but I never dared open them up.
Now maybe if some day ASW releases a P4A:Round 2 with Margaret...
Yeah, no, I know. :/

Good games earlier Starzonedge. This game has been my go to when on PS3 lately, I wish the community was a little more alive.

Switched mains from Shadow Labrys to Chie recently. Feels less scary playing as the latter than the former, but playing S. Lab is still really fun.

As preparation for EVO, does anyone have/know of some good Yosuke matches against the top tiers (and Naoto) that I could watch? I'm going to be lacking the actual match up experience because of the very small amount of people I can actually play, so might as well prepare my theory fighting as best as I can.

There's some strong yosuke play in this post I made yesterday. Starting with the Stream B casuals link is Hayashi one of the top jp Yosukes. There's also more Yosuke footage littered throughout the rest of the tournament/videos.

I'm sure Geneijin will pop in sooner or later to give you a bunch of footage.

I was surprised by how stable our "2-bar" connection was, didn't feel laggy at all. :D And, yup, same here. I either play this or Dragon's Dogma. Been making an effort to practice Arena at least 20 minutes a day to get more comfortable with the transition over to fight stick.

Good games (impressive Naoto btw).

I don't even get laggy matches if it says I have a 1 bar connection. I like your Aegis mix-ups are scary as hell.
