GAF's iOS Weekly Challenge 8: - SUPER HEXAGON - "You're Already Dead"

Is Hyper Hexagon the same as Hexagon at the 60 second mark, or is it a bit faster? I was trying to practice on Hyper Mode, but I feel like I've hit a wall and I'm not improving anymore. My reaction time is not getting any better, heh.

BTW, I found out about the challenge through Game Center. I opened GC to clear the notification badge and yet another annoying GC challenge, but then I saw the note included with it about the GAF challenge. So it at least got one person to join the competition.

Yeah, it is. It goes like this:

0-60: Hexagon
60-180: Hyper Hexagon
180-300: Hyper Hexagoner
300-360: Hyper Hexagonest
360+: That crazy black and white stage post-Hyper Hexagonest

Hexagon is basically an endurance run once you master each stage.

Cool, my job is done then :D

I kinda wish the game wouldn't alert you to a high score. "Hmm feels like I've been playing a while. NEWHIGHSCORdead! Aw crap. 1.5 seconds better."

Alright, thanks. I'll be happy if I could break 70 seconds at this point. Time for more Hyper Hexagon practice.

Bwahahahahahah soooo true! That's exactly what happened to me, each high score was just a 0.5" (not kidding) increment on my previous record lmao

Man, there are some impressive Hexagoners on here. I've never even broken 60 seconds. Kudos

Edit: Just fired it up again.

41 seconds max. Highest score 59.50 seconds. Deep sense of failure and a small desire to break my own thumbs :(

i've come to the conclusion that getting a great score is just based on luck :D sometimes it just gives those easy patterns and even those relaxing breaks with the hexagon spirals. But then sometimes its all square -> pentagon -> square -> pentagon with the hellishly accurate patterns :D

Lol no longer aiming for top 5, but I should be able to break 100 secs soon

Just played it on silent for the first time ever, and cracked my highest score by 15 seconds (74 seconds). It did feel easier without the sound, but I dig the music too much to leave it turned off.

Argh, I've jinxed myself, keep getting 97-99 secs

FUCK you've beat me by 2 tenth of a second :p
I really gotta try a no sound run, but goddamn I'm in love with the soundtrack

Those patterns are gonna come sooner or later, so you better get used to them.

Same, I've gone back to playing it with sound on, best times be damned.

Inspired choice for the challenge by the way, it'd been languishing in some dusty folder on the arse-end of my phone and it's really good to pick it back up and get stuck in.

Nope. It's all about unconscious pattern learning IMO. All you have to do is play it a lot, and eventually you just play without thinking, even the thougher patterns will just fly by by itself after a while

Yep, that's it. A lot of the time I'm playing now I'm having conversations with other people. Eventually your brain will just react with minimal effort because you've trained it for so long.

GAF's iOS Challenge 8: Super Hexagon

Last day to partecipate my fellow gaffers! Try your luck and maybe take home some sweet prizes. To partecipate is super quick and easy, refer to this thread's OP. if you're already one of my Game Center friends then it's even better: all you have to do is to PLAY THE GAME, that's it :)

In the meantime, this past couple of days, former GAF Challenge 7’s winner, Angry"Tiny Wings"Moth, jumped on board late but that didn't stop him to work his way up to freakin' #2 in a matter of hours and bump our former twitchy king WARIO "Ultra Hexalol"64 to third place... Meanwhile, TheDarkest Red is an alien, nothing to add on that am I right? :p
DAY6 TOP12 Leaderboard [61 partecipants so far, FULL RESULTS in the |OT|]

Think The_Darkest_Red has got a lock on first. I might have a 400 in me but that's probably my limit
Dude, you were so close to beating Hyper Hexagonest! Once you get over that hump it's just pure zen mode; no telling how much longer you'll make it because it doesn't change anymore.

I would have to beat my best regular hyper hexagonest time in the process to catch you though! Not impossible but very unlikely, I am so drained by that point lol. It's not so bad losing to a member of the all time top 10 (excluding obvious cheaters)!

I got 203:44 last night, and another low 200 score...that was quite painful. Got 254.49 today though! (And yet I move up 0 spots for that, 300 seems doable now at least)

I'm so used to the music and voice that I'm more distracted without sound at this point.

Also while wearing headphones last night I noticed one section of the song sounds like its saying "it's dragonball it's dragonball it's dragonball it's dragonball it's dragonball it's dragonball" then "ball ball ball ball ball". I definitely have to keep the sound on now just to hear that, I attribute my new high score to that discovery.

thanks (?) to a small technical problem Challenge will go on for a bit longer than the original deadline which was fucked up since I had generated the countdown with AM instead of PM, lol

considering there are 7 levels (the last one can´t be selected), and each lasts 60 seconds (except the last one of course) I believe that anyone with over 420s can be considered complete masters of this game. So far only the Darkest Red can have this title here.

Thanks to this challenge I am finally being able to reach the post Hyper Hexagonest (I call it Ultra Hexagon) consistently... I won´t last more than 10 seconds on it though :/

EDIT: I am wrong! Actually its just 360s. Jesus TDR is insane!

Gonna try and break 100 a couple of more times before calling it a day. Damn, still locked on 97-99 secs all the time.

Thanks for making me pick up this game again, Dash!

78.48!

I think it's a testament to Terry's creation that I've spent every spare moment playing this today, just to improve my score by 3 and a bit seconds. It was totally worth it.

If I can finish inside the top 25, I'll be a happy bunny.

Edit: Damn you Dash! Where'd you pull an 82 from?!

EditEdit: 80.52. I'm coming for you.

Eh usually I loath score based games, but I really love this. Its so simple yet so hard, and the best part is that you can feel youself improving over time.

I decided to stop playing after having over 100s in each stage, but this challege made me obsessed over it again...
