So, for those that have light reflection with their TV setup, are you going to cancel your PS4 pre-orde? Is this a deal breaker?
Of course not. It's just really silly that I need to put a big piece of tape on my controller. Obviously the light should be optional.

Totally a non-issue for me. If you have a glossy display, I can see how it becomes annoying but it's nothing that some electrical tape can't fix.

I kinda don't believe you. Or feel that you are making too much of it.

Let us remind ourselves that TVs are typically glowing with light. You would only see a reflection if the bulb happened to line up perfectly with a part of the screen that happened to be dark at that moment, for however long. The rest of the time you can't see shit. Because you are looking AT A TV.

There's no way that reflection is going to overpower a plasma.
I have a reflective LCD that I sit directly in front of in a dim room, about 3-4 feet away. I have to sit straight on since it has bad viewing angles. My TV is also quite low to the ground so the Move lines up with the center of the TV. The reflection is noticeable and I can't keep my eyes from focusing on it, especially since itms constantly moving. My room is kind of a collection of all the worst possible scenarios for a reflective light.

Like I said before, I'll probably just tape the DS4, despite that making it look like crap. Taping just isn't an option with Move since you need the light for it to work. There's also a chance the DS4 won't be as bright as the Move. I'd just like the option to avoid possible distraction, that's all.

I have a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV and it has a glossy glass screen, any light source will cause a reflection. I don't plan to replace my Sony tv anytime soon.
I don't get how multimillion dollar companies design products without doing the simple thing of sitting infront of a tv from your own product line

I had that playstation 3d display for awhile and that thing was like a psp. it would reflect the 360 guide button let alone a useless giant led in the ds4

I don't mind too much as long as developers don't over-do it and it doesn't turn out to be brighter than the sun at night time.

Especially can put up with it for a console which is £100 less and more powerful than the Xbox One.

Is that really just indicated by color? Will I have to look up the manual when i forgot which player the color green was supposed to represent?
I don't know if it's just indicated by color. But the primary indication will be the color.

So if you have reoccurring retrograde amnesia you should definitely not purchase a PS4.

yup.

But ffs, why do electronics and computer bits all have to be festooned with led's? I have an htpc which I had to douse with electrical tape and not just externally, but the damn gfx card and motherboard too. Then there is the hdd dock I use with it--I actually had to take apart because of the LED inferno from the clear ring around the giant on/off switch couldn't be taped without making the on/off inaccessible.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Not all of us can be elephants that even remember what eye color their first grade teacher had.

Usually players in games are already identified by colors, even if they have numbers, they're colored numbers, so the color on the DS4 will match the color on the screen, you won't have to remember anything.

That would make sense. Just hope that third party games won't forget to include it

They can be very irritating. As someone who wears glasses, any LED that points at my face creates light scatter on my eyes. Always drove me nuts when my 360 controller was dying or whenever I was trying to play my DS in a darkened room. I was afraid I would have the same issues with my Vita, but thankfully my thumb covers the notifications light when I'm actually playing.

Oh no!

This is unacceptable! Games will be unplayable.

PS4SUCKZLOLZ!

Is this how we were supposed to react?

It will be used in Killzone. Green - full health; Red - Low health

Its not a bad idea, but I dont think its going to be used all that often. I recall a similar idea being shopped around when the 360 was new. You know, because it has the green lights around the home button. The problem is that red signifies that something is wrong with the controller. Much like the RROD

Why?

Except that screen doesn't reflect off the TV.

but it will be in your eye sight just as much as the LED, you might say that you can lower the Wii U pad so it's out of your eyesight but guess what? you can do the same with the DS4 LED.

That is not healthy for your sight. Make sure that the room you play in is at least dimly lit.

That's an old false myth. It can cause eyestrain (due to your eyes having to constantly readjust to the changing brightness on the screen, as there is no other light to keep the brightness level more even), yes, but that's a temporary nuisance. It will cause no permanent damage to your eyes.

What's all this intense concern about playing in a dark room?
Most sources I can find say that there's likely no issue in doing that, and the one study I can find found only a "modest correlation" between watching in a dark room and eyestrain.

I'm sure he is freaked out if he goes to the movies. Why won't they turn on the motherfucking lights there?

Not a big deal imo.

But I'm biased I guess because I don't mind gaming with a wired controller.

And frequent repetitive eye strain leads to astigmatism.

I happen to suffer from that "myth".

I play off-center from my TV so I'm good, but I can see why this is an issue for a lot of people. Hope it can be dimmed at least.
