Dual Shock 4 lightbar can't be turned off

Guys, I have a pet cat who's attracted to LED lights. What if, in the midst of an intense gaming session, my cat, lashes out at the controller but strikes me instead?

Sony, see the light (pun intended). With this decision comes a huge health risk to all gamers out there. There has to be another way.

I just love the large quantities of complaints about something electrical tape fixes. But I'm sure Madcatz will have a PS4 controller LED sized sticker to buy to accomplish the same. Battery life is irrelevant for an LED on a controller that you can so easily recharge.

Would it be nice if we could turn it off? Sure, but if this is the price I have to pay to have the option to not buy the camera instead of it being forced on me, I'll take it.

I've electrical-taped everything in my media cabinet. Who the fuck wants to have LED's blasting in their face while watching a screen?

I know right? The horrible agony of having pin sized points of light blasting, burning, illuminating .00000001 percent of the room while I watch my TV. I just can't concentrate on the giant 50" slab of light in front of me with those tiny specks of light in my peripheral. God!

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

The best LCD ever made, the Sharp Elite has a reflective screen.

The best in class LCD's this year from Sony have a reflective screen, same goes for Samsung etc.

Sure go out and buy your crappy 500$ LG LCD with an anti-reflective screen. I'm sure it will offer cutting edge picture quality.

The Pioneer Elite Kuro, one of the best TV's ever made, has an anti-reflective coating.

Seriously, when is the screen ever black enough to let you see the reflection of the light bar? A few seconds of loading? A very short dark segment? It reeaaly bothers you guys that much to see a stupid dim light on the screen for a few moments enough to duct tape it? Some of you are bothered way to easily.

I'll just say this. If you have the lightbar facing the TV in a height and distance where this becomes relevant, there must be some bad placement.

In my room the sunlight shines right in and leaves a huge ray of light glare the TV, a small blue light is the least of my problems :(

I need better blinds or something

On the flipside, you could try covering the blue light . . . ? Hey maybe madcatz or someone are gonna try to capitalize on the idea and make like a visor or shield or something for the light LOL

Thanks, Sony. My daughter sleeps right by me while I play. Now she will wake up everytime that big gay blue light shines in her face.

God dammit.

WTF.

I like to play atmospheric games with the lights out and even the red LED of my DS3 reflects on the TV screen during dark scenes.

Just put in the ability to turn it off Sony.

Like I said earlier, if I'm standing and playing a game like table tennis in Sports Champion I could see the reflection but I'm into the game. But, when I play a game like Infamaous 2 or KillZone 3 the controller is well below my tv since it is wall mounted about 60" from the floor.

The lightbar is a cool looking feature. However, dark rooms and reflections are a bit of a turn off. In the end, kind of cool but not needed.
But it totally shows they wanted the camera to be a bigger component of the overall package.

I guess they have it always-on because the camera was going to be with every PS4, but now since they dropped that completely they should go and redesign the controller and removed the huge and now useless light bar.

There's way better ways to do this (see: every other controller ever)

Exactly, the controller is almost taking a step backward in that sense. Why not just have controller indicator led 1-4 like DS3 and 360 controller? How is a LED color differentiation better in any sense?

Doesn't bother me at all, other than for reminding me that they didn't include the camera in every box which I really wanted.

Could someone explain to me why the light-bar is intrusive? This reaction seems...disproportionate to the concerns I can imagine.

What reaction are you talking about? The only people overreacting are the ones joking about canceling their PS4 orders. Most everyone else is saying, well, that kinda sucks, but it's not a big deal and should probably be fixed in a firmware patch.

If there weren't four times as many people telling people not to freak out, when no one is actually freaking out, this thread would only be a handful of pages long. Instead, posts fall into several categories:

1.) Drive by sarcastic quips.
2.) People wondering why everyone is freaking out.
3.) Dumb suggestions on how to cover up the light.
4.) People being reasonable and saying they'd prefer that their controller didn't glow constantly, but that it's not a big deal.

and 5.) People arguing whether that's a reflection in the video clip or not.

I'd like to recommend anybody playing in dark rooms to get a good 125w lamp and start playing on a bright room, at more than 2mt of distance so you don't get your eyes burned and end up with glasses for screen-use like myself.

Besides that, and on-topic, the controller has a diffuser and It will probably don't even emit that much lighting to reflect it on a screen. It's not like a clear plastic reflecting a led as the Wii U or 360 controller have anyways.

Also, you can always get a madcatz cover which will probably come out for those nitpickers. I like the Ledbar feature a lot, I can't wait to make it cycle on the button colours.

That's very stupid. If I don't turn off the lamp in my room I see it in my TV, so no doubt this will show up.

I can't believe how many assholes are in this thread.

Reflections are bad, it's not an issue when playing every game, but when playing a dark game and having a giant light reflecting off the screen will suck. Plain and simple.

It was annoying seeing the little red light reflecting on the screen during tense dark sections in the Last of Us, and this will be much much worse.

How do people forget what it was like having lights or sun shining on on your old CRT and how much that sucked, but those were things you could probably control, either shutting your blinds or just turning off your loving room lights. This is a light that doesn't need to be on, so let me turn it off, or make it turn off after initial boot up. It's not a stupid thing to ask for.

BUT IT'S NOT A PROBLEM FOR ME SO I DON'T CARE WOW WAY TO MAKE UP NEGATIVE BS ABOUT THE PS4

What are you guys talking about 10 pages? It's only six pages! :p

Has the "shot themselves in the foot" meme been used yet?

This is a non-issue for me but I guess a patch will come eventually if people make enough noise about it.

lol....this is a problem for some of you? what
Well, I can imagine it being quite annoying in darker environments. Surprised if it didn't come up in testing phase and why it was left the way it is. IF it can't be adjusted or completely switched off after a firmware update adding an option for it I'd be really surprised.

My tv got a matte screen, don't give a fuck 420 gaming.
Seriously though, I can see sony patching the option in once the complaints fly in.

Nope
The Console detect the light, and if its off the game will stop. Its like convering the Wiimote tip.
And also, I really dont want sticky glue on my controllers because of bad design.

EDIT: Seem that I was wrong and this is only for Cam games. Just woken up when I wrote this so yeah sorry!
