I love all the mainline games and it's a hard call between Goin' Commando and Up Your Arsenal, but Dr. Nefarious seals the deal for me.

Truth be told I'm not all that excited either if it's just another traditional Ratchet game. I've played pretty much every single one of them, most recently the two mainline PS3 versions last winter when I first got my PS3.
Even with the excellent (but far too few) Clank puzzle sections in Crack in Time, the bulk of it is the same barely existant platforming and not-super-satisfying shooting. Upgrading the weapons is about the only thing I still enjoy, and even that has lost some of it's luster (too many returning guns or just mediocre upgrades).
I'm not really sure what would get me excited in a new one at this point. Maybe large, open levels (Mario 64/Banjo Kazooie style as apposed to the mostly straightline levels with occasional branching paths), maybe a stronger focus on the Metroid-vania aspects, I really don't know.
How are insomniac 1st or 2nd party now? They are making games on another platform, wouldn't that make them third party?
If they're making an exclusive game for Sony that is published and funded by Sony then yes, they do count. It's the same situation as The Order.
So are Quantic Dream and Ready at Dawn.

I think it's because the game would be published by SCEA. Doesn't matter what else insomniac is doing.
Sony owns the IP, and Insomniac never "supervised". They helped with some things, but they never had any "charge" of R&C products they didn't make. Seriously what is this FUD? So stupid.
I own a Vita and PS3. Fuck both, I want a R&C for the PS4.

I dunno, I want a console that I spent hundreds of dollars and invested a lot of money into to be supported as much as possible. Just because the successor is about to come out doesn't mean I want to put it in front of a firing squad.
Kinda funny thing to say, ha ha, though I kinda agree.
I think its more because I presume we're both wanting to get a PS4 asap, so PS3 will become somewhat irrelevant to us when its out.
For me though, I'll definitely have to keep my PS3 for things like Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 and Beyond, and whatever dlc for games I have for it upcoming, so doesnt bother me too much, if this is for PS3, but I definitely share your thought I'd love it more if it was on PS4.
I still think its awesome sony aren't abandoning PS3 owners though who wont get a PS4 straight away.

Generally "second party" is just the state of being a developer of a game for a console maker.
Like you could simultaneously be a second party and a third party, such as Ready At Dawn making Okami for Wii. It just varies by title.
If Insomniac's only PS4 game is Ratchet, that would make them a second party as far as the PS4 goes.
That said, I really wouldn't be surprised if this was PS3 only.

Insomniac was never owned by Sony (unlike Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch), they've always been independent. Sony owns the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance IPs, so those are considered "second party" which isn't a real thing, just a term people use for situations like that.
They own the Fuse and Sunset Overdrive IPs I think so they are free to do what they want with them with regards to platforms.

I'm not sure what it's considered when Sony is publishing the game and it's a Sony IP. Really can't classify it as third party.
Titles published by Sony aren't on that list. That said, this is Probably PS3.Insomniac is third party.

Cool if it's R&C X Jak but being on PS3 when PS4 is coming out in like 4 months, I just don't care. Really makes no sense either seeing how easy the PS4 is to develop for. Game will just get buried under next-gen. Sure GT is still PS3....but it's fucking GT, kind of a different situation.
Also would be pretty ridiculous after the whole "hey guiz! exclusive new IP for next-gen Xbone!" to turn around and give the Sony crowd the last-gen scraps.

guys, the teaser portal and J&D rift gate didn't look the same, seriously, it's just your generic circle with some cool design to spice things up. you'd be disappointed if you're expecting Jak&Ratchet crossover.
also, if they're going to make Jak&Ratchet crossover, it wouldn't be through the rift portal anyway, we know that portal from J&D is for time travel within Jak dimension anyway. but, The Precursors from Jak and Daxter are indeed space traveler like Ratchet, so it'd be pretty easy to make a crossover.

The term is fluid. A developer can have multiple teams working on different platforms. If Insomniac makes an exclusive game for Playstation again Sony would treat them as second party, doesn't matter what else they are doing. Quantic Dream could decide tomorrow to make an XB1 exclusive for Microsoft with a second new team and Sony would still treat them as second party and still wouldn't put them on the list.

It was put up yesterday so either it's a hint to the announcement tomorrow or it's to do with the collection coming out on Vita...

On the other hand, how unexciting is a friggin' PS3 game? It's election season Sony, Microsoft didn't kick your ass by supporting their Original Xbox in 2005.
I bought the PS3 in February 2007 when it launched in Europe. That's more than six years ago. I love my PS3 but I'm ready to move on after so many years. I want to play my favorite franchise on a next gen console. I have already bought five R&C games for the PS3. That's more than enough. I want a fresh experience, graphics that astonish me instead of more of the same.
I hope Sony drops the PS3 like a hot potato and goes into full-on PS4 mode after the launch this holiday season.
yeah, it's not hard to understand. If you aren't owned but are being published by a first party (especially on an IP that said first party owns) you are acting as a second party studio to them. Even if another internal team is working as a third party elsewhere.
He's also hinting it's on PS4
